“I don’t think it will ever happen, and here’s why: Rob Thomas and I had a powwow, and we were both 100 percent on board. We took our proposal to Warner Bros. and Joel Silver told us that there is no enthusiasm to make a Veronica Mars movie, and that is unfortunately a roadblock we cannot compete with. Maybe if we bombard them with letters? Maybe they will change their tune.”

Please, please please…no more letters, no more peanuts, no more petitions. If the studio doesn’t think a movie will make money or win Oscars, they will not greenlight it. Personally, I like the adult career Bell has forming. Forgetting Sarah Marshall was great and Couples Retreat looks very funny. Can’t we just move on?

Zap2It has an interesting article up on their site discussing how Enrico Colantoni (Keith Mars) is still very interested in doing a Veronica Mars movie. This is good news, since he has moved on to CBS’ Flashpoint. The article goes on to give some interesting quotes from Enrico. Continue reading for a the quotes and a link.

Colantoni confirms that Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas is going to ditch the FBI storyline, and stick with a college-age Veronica for the movie. He also comments on Rob’s currently packed schedule:

“I think Enbom is actually running Party Down,” says Colantoni. “I think they’re done with Cupid, and Rob says he’s going to go home and write the movie. Now, he’s still the executive producer of Party Down, but this is what I heard, that he’s actually sitting down and writing the movie.”

The actor will also be guest starring on Party Down, as will Kristen Bell, but they will not be guest starring at the same time. However, he goes on to mention the contact he has with Mars alums:

“I see Jason Dohring at times. Kristen and I text message each other, but it’s hard. She’s busy. I’m in Toronto. We text message each other about hockey. She’s a Red Wings fan. I’m a Leaves fan.”

Looks like it’s not the end of the world for Jericho afterall…

It all started with that Big Damn Movie…

After the critically acclaimed, but ratingly ignored (is “ratingly” a word?) Firefly was prematurely ripped from the airwaves, it was given the chance to continue on the big screen in the form of the film Serenity in 2005. Ever since then, it seems that every killed-before-its-time TV series has been trying to get a movie off the ground. From Veronica Mars to Pushing Daisies, showrunners have had new hope that their canceled shows could be revived in 35mm form.

Now we can add another one to the list.

While promoting his new horror series Harper’s Island for CBS, Jericho executive producer Jon Turteltaub announced that the show must go on! His production company is currently in development of a big screen continuation of the show.

“We’re developing a feature for JERICHO,” says Turteltaub. “It would not require you to have seen the TV show, but it gets into life after an event like this on a national scale. It would be the bigger, full on American version of what’s going on beyond the town in Jericho.”

The series focused on the residents of the fictional town of Jericho in Kansas in the aftermath of nuclear attacks on 23 major cities in the U.S.

When asked if the cast would return, Turteltaub replied with an enthusiastic, “Oh yeah!”

The TV series starred Skeet Ulrich and Ashley Scott, and was lauded as one of the best television series of 2007, becoming un-canceled after irate fans planned a clever protest involving peanuts (something that is apparently meaningful to the series). Unfortunately, the victory was short-lived and the show was canceled after a short second season.

The show is already seeing a second life of sorts this season on The CW, where its being re-aired every Sunday night.

“It’s crazy,” says Turteltaub. “I think they’re airing it because it’s cheap and there’s still that feeling that it hasn’t really gotten all the attention it can. When I think about the fact, a repeat of JERICHO on CW actually has more viewers than an episode of MAD MEN, you realize the difference between cable and broadcast, you realize the difference between what the press is watching vs. what America is watching. And I bring up MAD MEN, because it’s a brilliant show. But it’s still fun to see the show won’t die.”

STARZ ENTERTAINMENT CATERS TO HOLLYWOOD WITH START OF PRODUCTION ON “PARTY DOWN”

Ken Marino, Adam Scott, Jane Lynch, Martin Starr, Ryan Hansen and Lizzy Caplan

Hired To “Serve” Tinseltown In New Original Series

Englewood, Colo. – December 17, 2008 – A cast of some of the brightest young acting talent has begun to “Party Down,” and the Hollywood catering business will never be the same. Production has started in

Los Angeles on “Party Down,” the new original series from Starz Entertainment, in association with its television production sibling Starz Media. This is the first series Starz Media is producing for Starz.

“Party Down” follows a Los Angeles catering team – a sextet of Hollywood wannabes stuck working for tips while hoping for their “big break.” Each episode of this half-hour comedy finds the hapless catering team working a new event – - and inevitably getting tangled up with the colorful guests and their absurd lives.

Starz has tapped Ken Marino (“Veronica Mars,” Role Models), Adam Scott (“Tell Me You Love Me,” Step Brothers), Jane Lynch (Role Models, The 40 Year Old Virgin), Martin Starr (Knocked Up, “Freaks and Geeks), Ryan Hansen (“Veronica Mars,” Friday the 13th 2009) and Lizzy Caplan (“True Blood,” Cloverfield) to star in the project from creator Rob Thomas (“Veronica Mars,” “Cupid”). The show will air in March as a companion to the returning comedy series “Head Case,” starring Alexandra Wentworth.

The series is created and executive produced by Rob Thomas, along with John Enbom, Paul Rudd and Dan Etheridge. Enbom also serves as show runner. Co-executive producers are Jennifer Gwartz and Danielle Stokdyk. Jennifer Dugan will produce the series. William J. Hamm, executive vice president, originals productions, Starz Media, will oversee production.

“’Party Down’ is going to be a terrific addition to our originals lineup and we’re pleased to have it as our first in-house collaboration with Starz Media,” said Stephan Shelanski , executive vice president programming, Starz Entertainment. “You can’t ask for anything better than to have the powerhouse team of Rob Thomas and Paul Rudd (Role Models, Knocked Up) attached as executive producers, as well as a highly talented cast.”

“Party Down” is the latest addition to Starz’ original programming lineup. The channel’s first dramatic series, “Crash,” a co-production with Lionsgate, premiered October 17. Starz also features “Starz Inside,” a series featuring original specials examining people, trends and culture in movie entertainment hosted by film critic Richard Roeper.

Series creator Rob Thomas updates fans on the status of the Veronica Mars movie.

In regards to what’s been done on getting our favorite teenage sleuth onto the big screen, creator Rob Thomas seems to be having trouble finding the time to finish the outline:

“I thought I had the idea broken, but I’ve hit a wall in the final act that I haven’t quite figured out. And with “Cupid” and “Party Down” occupying 80 hours a week, and a new baby boy occupying the remaining hours, I haven’t nailed it down. I’m hopeful that I can find the time to figure it out over the Christmas holidays.”

It’s understandable that his focus would be on his paying gigs, but I really hope this becomes a reality in the next couple of years. Veronica Mars herself, Kristin Bell, is already pushing 30 years old, and considering the film is supposed to be a direct follow-up to the series with Veronica still in college(rather than the flash forward that was talked about for ill-fated season four), they need to get cracking.

Oh who am I kidding? They could make this ten years from now and I’d still be there with bells on…

Joel Silver is reportedly producing a Veronica Mars film over at Warner Bros. that will be written by series mastermind Rob Thomas with Veronica herself Kristin Bell already attached.

That’s great news, right? Want some even better news?

The film won’t be taking it’s cue from the unsuccessful season 4 pilot pitch that saw Mars joining the FBI. Instead, it’ll be set a few months after the events of Season 3 – with the spunky private investigator still in college.

“The FBI scenario was more of a ‘What if…?’ aimed at getting us a fourth season [before the show was canceled],” says Rob Thomas. “I would want to bring back our key players, and it would be tough to believe that the FBI stationed Veronica in Neptune.”
