Lindsey Lohan to star in “Elm Street” remake

Lindsey Lohan, the star of Mean Girls and a frequent tabloid mainstay, has been cast as Nancy in the Nightmare on Elm Street remake.Lohan’s last film appearance was also in a horror film- the 2007 bomb I Know Who Killed Me. She will be playing the main victim to the yet-to-be-cast Freddy Krueger in the Platinum Dunes remake of Nightmare on Elm Street. The film is scheduled for a 2010 release.

‘Nightmare’ Redux Gets a Greenlight

Producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form announced today that Platinum Dunes’ remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street has been greenlit for production.

Originally announced over the summer, it was unsure if Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) and Amityville Horror (2005)’s trio of producers (Fuller, Form, and Michael Bay) would be involved, but apparently the Ts have been crossed. “It’s our next movie,” confirmed Form, “hopefully shooting this spring.”

Writer Wesley Strick (Cape Fear) is attached to pen the script which is intended to re-imagine the the serial killing dream master for a new audience. “It’s like what we’re doing to Friday the 13th,” says Fuller. “It’s not Freddy cracking jokes. We want to make a horrifying movie. The concept is so scary, don’t fall asleep or you’ll die. This guy gets you when you’re most vulnerable, in your sleep. We love that. That’s the basis of the movie. It’ll be most similar to the first one but in terms of kills and dreams we’ll borrow from the entire series.”

Shooting is expected to take place in the Chicago suburbs.

Fuller and Form also confirmed that they are looking for someone new to don the red and green sweater (or whatever the new Freddy will end up wearing…), but they hope for Robert Englund to appear in the film in another role.

I say Ben Foster as Freddy and Englund as his violently drunk father. What do you guys think?

Billy Bob Krueger?

JoeBlo is reporting an interesting rumor:

As we all know, Micheal Bay’s Platinum Dunes production company (responsible for 2003’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre, 2005’s Amityville Horror, and 2009’s upcoming Friday the Thirteenth) is planning on remaking Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street. With the remake, the franchise would not only get a bigger budget but also a new cast. This includes a replacing the original (and at this point ONLY) Freddy Krueger, Robert Englund.

Well, according to Englund, while promoting his new film Jack Brooks, Monster Slayer on the radioshow Loveline, Billy Bob Thornton may be slipping into that famous striped sweater for the Nightmare reboot.

This may seem unbelieveable to some, but Billy Bob has a history of not being above this grade of film (Mr. Woodcock or Bad News Bears remake anyone?). Plus, he’s worked with Michael Bay in the past (Armageddon).

I’ll be taking this with a grain of salt for now, but it doesn’t seem out of the question…
