The Dark Knight Beats Star Wars… Twice!

The Dark Knight’s four week rein as king of the box office came to an end this weekend, but not before passing 1977’s Star Wars to become the 2nd highest domestic grossing film of all time with an absolutely stunning $471.5 million in just five weeks. Star Wars had an unadjusted gross of $461 million, but that includes a number of rereleases since it’s debut thirty-one years ago.
The box office crown for the weekend went to Tropic Thunder, which earned a weekend gross of $26 million. Despite earning only $16.8 million this weekend, The Dark Knight still managed to come in at #2, beating the snot out of the Jedi for a second time this week with the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars earning a dissapointing $15.5 million in over 3,400 theaters (more screens than Tropic Thunder). That’s a laughable $4,500 per site average.
This weekend has made me regain a little faith in humanity. It proved that no matter how big a fanbase might get, people won’t pay to see garbage.
Well, maybe this whole thing will finally teach ol’ George a lesson…
…but I’m not holding my breath.

The Dark Knight Returns in 2011!!!
.jpg)
After the MEGA success of this year’s The Dark Knight, Nolan and company are back to bring us the next installment in 2011, The Dark Knight Returns!!!
Wow. Just wow.
Okay, so that’s not true at all.
Well, it could be true, but its not like anything has been announced as of yet.
Sorry for the misleading headline, but after seeing a MASTERFULLY KICK-ASS fan-made poster as this one… how could you not get a little hyped?
In all honesty, I don’t even know if this IS fan-made. All I know is that I saw it, and couldn’t stop staring at its beauty.
There has been absolute zero movement on the Batman movie front from what I understand, but this damn well makes me wish there has been.
If its real, that’ll be swell, if it isn’t, well then this is still an absolutely AMAZING piece of fan art that deserves all of its recognition.
Kudos to whoever put this together.

The Dark Knight – $314.2 Million In 10 Days!!
Warner Bros. Pictures’ The Dark Knight earned an estimated $75.6 million from 4,366 theaters in its second weekend, surpassing Shrek 2’s $72.2 million for biggest second weekend ever.
Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins follow-up has reached $314.2 million in just 10 days, another record. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest held the previous record in the amount of days it took to cross the $300 million mark – 16 days. On Monday, The Dark Knight will surpass Iron Man and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull to become the biggest movie of 2008 domestically.
The film is already up to #23 on the all-time domestic blockbuster list and has a good shot at surpassing Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope’s $460.998 million (not counting inflation) to become the second-biggest domestic earner of all-time, trailing only Titanic’s $600.788 million.
The Dark Knight, budgeted at $185 million, stars Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman.
