I love Pathology! Definitely overrated.
lol I meant underrated
Where are my pauses? You did notes? You have links to a YouTube channel?
(faints)
I don’t know why but I find this comment completely adorable.
I also find this comment awesome.
I love when people mention me in their podcasts but I think you have me confused with someone else. I did say I didn’t like the singing but I don’t recall mentioning a squeaking chair or anything else.
On a related note to Down and Eastbound. Also on Mr. Paton Oswald’s recommendation I watched the first two episodes of Delocated.
Um…. it’s totally lame.
I got called out on something I didn’t say as well Rusty.
Did me mention you this episode Sunshineyness?
LOL, yeah you mis-ID’d me as the one who commented about animals dying in films. Nothing too terrible, just thought it was funny.
Lol, yeah that was me that said the dog comment.
Now I feel like a pig, getting our female listeners mixed up and all.
Mike said: I got referred to this podcast and this episode was my first introduction.
Wow.
I almost feel like lost an hour of my life trying to listening to this, but I wanted to give it a full listen. For a podcast where you talk down about a Buffy specific podcast you dedicated over 10 minutes Geeking out about Buffy, Faith, and so on.
I listen to podcasts like The Signal and it brings out flaws like hearing you type and the phone in the background. Work on the tech side guys. This could be a really great podcast.”
So yes, It was not Rusty James. Curiously enough when i tried to contact Mike for more details on what he would like to see, I never got a reply. It’s been almost two months.
What’s Delocated?
Paton Oswald mentioned it in the same blog post as his Watchmen rant (which was posted before he saw the movie. Lame.) It’s on adult swim but it’s not a cartoon. It’s about a family in the Witness Relocation program that have their own reality tv show.
If that description didn’t make you laugh then I don’t recommend the show. It gets very little milage out of the concept.
His blog was about not prejudging the movie (like so many people were gearing up to do just because they made a Watchman movie, and were going to do no matter how good it was). It would have been ‘lame’ and pointless if he had done it after seeing the movie.
Patton made a really good argument with that blog post, I thought. Zack Snyder has been almost spoiling the fanboy commuinty, but he still gets bitched at. The mere fact that he took the time to direct a Black Freighter segment speaks volumes about hwo much he cares about the source material and the fans. He’s a very interesting director and I hope he takes a break from comic-book movies, simply so he won’t have to deal with impossible-to-please fanboys
Yeah it’s a good point. Zack Snyder was doing me a personal favor by agreeing to direct Watchmen. How dare I!
But seriously, as if the problem with the fanboy community is that they’re too critical and descriminating. It’s exactly the opposite. All you have to do to win them over is say some magic words (preferably on aintitcoolnews or some other nerd approved venue) about respect for the source material and how you grew up watching / reading / wanking off to/ this great work of art blah blah blah and the fanboys fawn all over you and viciously attack any dissenters.
Have you ever heard Oswald’s stand up bit on the Star Wars prequels? Doesn’t his exact same argument apply to them? Read his rant and replace Watchmen with Phantom Menace and Snyder with George Lucas. Why doesn’t he appreciate the fact that “[George Lucas] STEPPED UP, motherfuckers. THE [PHANTOM MENACE] was going to get made”. Why doesn’t he compare it to Ghost Rider and Catwoman and discard his “the-world-owes-me-my-daydreams-made-real attitude” and just like because it exists?
I’ll tell you why. Because there’s no good argument for turning off your brain and accepting what’s in front of you uncritically. Our critical thinking skills help us enjoy the work that deserves it. Stuff like Watchmen and Phantom Menace and Goddam Transformers is the collateral damage caught in the cross fire between our brain and shit movies (Watchmen’s not shit).
There’s probably a time I would’ve liked all those movies. But I don’t anymore, I’ve developed my aesthetic senses and I’m a better person for it.
And I embrace the term “Nerd Mafioso”.

Really? That’s the argument? I’ll address this in episode 11, I think it’d be really interesting to do a point/counter-point with you some day.
@Rusty James- When’s the last time you went on the Ain’t It Cool talkbacks? Those guys aren’t fawning over anything. They think Zack Snyder sucks, they hate Judd Apatow, they think Seth Rogen is a hack and that Diablo Cody should be tarred and feathered. It’s like they’re having a conest over who can be the most bitter and hateful
I’d love to do the show. I’m not sure I have a good skype set up for it though.
And my Star Wars analogy is unimpeachable.
“When the hell did this happen?”
Sorry for random quoting, I love Back to the Future.
Hey, if there was ever a place where random quoting of movies is acceptable, it’s here
Right after listening to this episode, I got in this really weird mood to watch The Ring (which I haven’t seen since high school) and low and behold, Adam Brody shows up for a scene at the wake.
Another instance of where an actor you know and love now, shows up in something you’ve seen in the past and had no idea they were in it.
Just thought it was funny that it happened so soon after you guys talked about it.
Adam Brody doesn’t get enough work
On Red Shirts- Right now I’m doing pre-production (finding sound effects, designing the logo, etc) but we will be recording episode one this weekend, hopefully
Have you guys seen the Crew?
http://www.thecrew.tv/
Tabz
Kim showed me that a while ago. Its funny, but its very different than from Red Shirts is going to be
I got to interview the creators (some of the actors also worked on Season 2 of the Guild) at the Streamys. So when I listened to you guys talking about Red Shirts I thought it sounded familiar. I’m looking forward to hearing Red Shirts.
Nick, listen to Will, he has it down when it comes to Buffy. You’ll like Tara, and there are good EPISODES in S4, just the arc is painful. I’ll love to see your reactions to S5. I think Dawn hate has a lot to do with the way she behaves. I did not notice it at first, but she often opens her mouth at all the wrong times. Also? Summer would kick Michelle’s ass in a dance off. Summer is professionally trained dancer, Michelle is just a gal who practiced a lot.
The Season 4 arc was SUPPOSED to be painful in my opinion.
I like the idea of “Red Shirts” as I’m a big star trek fan. Still… I want by Rick-By-Night.
Hayden, Im gonna be honest, the only way Rick By Night’s gonna happen is if you and Beau make it yourselves
I appreciate you leveling with me man.
Episode One is halfway done, btw. Jacob, Will and I all recorded our lines and we’re now waiting for Cole to have a free hour to comeover to my house and do his. After that, its all putting in sound effects and composing the theme. I’d give it another two weeks, optomistically
On Dollhouse- Joss Whedon recently stated an interview that a second season of Dollhouse was unlikely
Im not too shocked…or upset. After episode 7 (I think, im not keeping track too well) I thought the show was going to be ramping up, but its just been puttering slowly along. I do enjoy the show… but im not loving it.
I feel bad for fans of the show, but I would actually be glad if it gets cancelled, if only becuase it would free Joss Whedon’s schedule up considerably, allowing him to maybe possibly continue on that illustrious film career that I know he’s capable of. Bring on Goners!
I finally got caught up with the podcast. I’ve enjoyed it, looking forward to your future projects. As for actors showing up on odd shows, both Xander and Angel showed up on Married with Children years ago.
Hey guys, I realize the site’s been a bit inactive lately, but I just wanted to let everybody know its only because me, will, scott and Ben are hard at work on oyr respective shows. Scott & Ben are trying this new thing where they get everything done on Geek By Night before releasing episodes so there won’t be another hiatus. When one ep is ready, they’ll all be ready and they’ll be released in sucsessionl; boom boom boom.
As for Red Shirts, the guys has been super busy with school and all, I’ve actually been out of town two weekends in a row this month. But I just got done editing and recording a promo today and we should- hopefully- finally get done recording episode one, including our theme music! After that, editing should take the rest of the week, meaning that the premiere of Red Shirts could very well happen on the same of the premiere of Wolverine. What a weekend that’ll be, huh?
Anyway, that’s the update you guys.
Thanks for keeping us updated.
Holy crap, Will just showed me a prototype of the logo and its looking really cool. It should look even cooler by the time we show it to you guys
Episode One premieres Monday!
Hey guys, somewhat bad news: After hearing the cut of Episode One that was supposed to premiere today, Scott (and I) thought that the epsidoe could use a bit more work. Right now it’s fine, but not where it could be if we put a little more elbow grease into it. It sucks that I have to push back the realese again, but if it makes the Red Shirts pilot that much stronger and means that more people will want to keep listening, I think its worth it. I don’t want to try and settle for another date, at the risk of another redaction, but I will say that we’re trying our hardest to make the ep as awesome as possible.
Keep watching the skies!
Is that because of the sounds effects you were trying to do?
Yes, that was pretty much the biggest issue we had with what we almost realeased. Scott thought we could do better and after listening through I agreed.
hows red shirts going ????
its going well my friend! We’re cranking away
