Yeah, I finished them the second day after buying them. But the Challenge levels get pretty crazy. We shall see how that goes.

I played a little bit of Peggle (those challenge levels DO get crazy!), a little bit of Half-Life 2, and a ton of Bioshock this weekend.
I am partway through the Fort Frolic level in Bioshock right now. So far, I loved the Arcadia level (with all the trees) the most out of everything I've played. After putting a good amount of time into the game now, I have discovered that I am an ammo conservationist and a compulsive hacker. Most of the time, I run around with my wrench to take down the normal Splicer enemies, and I save all my guns and ammo for larger groups of enemies and the Big Daddies. So far, the Big Daddies have been pretty easy to take down with copious amounts of electric buckshot. :D

One of my favorite things to do was to set Big Daddy traps in the game. Once you get those trip wires, it is such a rush to line a hallway with them, and then shoot the Big Daddy. There is nothing like seeing one of them charge down a long hallway full blown at you, setting off all those electrical charges as he goes, just to have him fall dead at the last possible second and land at your feet. What a rush.

Yeah, Bioshock definitely does a good job of “giving you a rush”. I love that even though I know they won't attack me unprovoked, the Big Daddies still make me a bit nervous with their heavy, booming footsteps.

One of the first games that I came to love for the 360 was Saints Row. This was at a point where I was beginning to doubt whether I would ever find a sandbox game that I could truly enjoy. I had played GTA3 Vice City. I had played Oblivion. None of them had grabbed me as much as I had been hoping. I found the worlds far too dry and bland. But then I found Saints Row, and discovered that if the worlds didn't take themselves too seriously, I could have a blast in that setting.
Fast forward to Saints Row 2. I had just been burnt once more by a GTA series that I thought would be a lot of fun. And it actually was, for a short while. Unfortunately, the fun wore off quite quickly. So I skipped SR2 at it's release date.
A friend of mine recently picked the game up through Gamefly, and was talking about how much fun he was having with the sequel. So I decided to look into the reviews for the game to see if they had done co-op right, unlike GTAIV. After about 30 minutes of research, I went out and picked up the game today. About 2-3 hours of gameplay followed.
Saints Row 2 is far from a perfect game. It has some really annoying glitches, many of which seem much worse than anything from the first game. However, the fun level is completely there. You can do everything in Co-op that you can do in the regular game, which is really a big “F You” to GTA. But more importantly, the stuff that you can do is a lot of fun.
More often than not, they ditch realism for only slightly believable fun. And it works really well. I don't come to video games to live a real life. I play them to have a good time. And so when real life gets in the way of that, I'm all for it.
So yeah, that's what I'm playing now.

Let's see this weekend I finished Bioshock, played a ittle bit more of Half-Life 2, played around in Oblivion for a while, and picked up Guitar Hero Aerosmith for $10.
Oh yeah….I also bought a little game called Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena. GameStop just happened to have it on their shelf this weekend, so I couldn't resist picking it up. I played a couple hours of the Escape From Butcher Bay segment last night and quickly got past the part I had made it to on the original Xbox (which turned out to be not as far into the game as I thought).
Incidentally, I watched about half of Pitch Black on TV the day before….Vin Diesel needs to make another Riddick movie. Riddick is his best character by far.

I liked Pitch Black a lot, but Chronicles of Riddick wasn't all that great, IMO.

Pitch Black is a great little movie. For me, Chronicles of Riddick is just as good as Pitch Black, despite its flaws and despite being a completely different type of story. I saw CoR in the theaters several times, and the added stuff from the director's cut version all improved the movie and added to the story (unlike a lot of “director's cuts” these days).
I just like the character of Riddick so much that I really want to see him in another movie.

The huge decrease to me was the R rating to PG-13 from Pitch Black to CoR. Though I agree, Riddick is such a fun character, CoR should've gone in a different direction. The highlight of that movie (besides the knives he used) was death by tea cup. Classic.
Don't buy the NPPL paintball game. Pretty terrible.

Other than the added story segments (and a character that wasn't even in the theatrical version), the director's cut of CoR also restores a little bit more hard-hitting violence in a few spots, particularly during the escape from Crematoria.
The best part about the “death by teacup” scene is when Riddick puts the small wire on the rock after using the teacup. The look on the guards' faces was priceless. :D
…….perhaps we should get this back to video games sometime…..

I have been playing the hell out of Resident Evil 5 on the 360! Which is weird because I was never really that into the other RE games. The other game I’ve been playing alot is MLB 09 The Show on the PS3.

If you like the character of Riddick or if you like games that let you sneak around in the dark while feeling like a badass, then Assault on Dark Athena is totally for you. The two single player campaigns are excellent, and the multiplayer is fun to play, even if it isn't quite as robust as other games out there.
And I just have to say, if EA ever gets around to making a sequel to Mirror's Edge, they need to look at this game to see how hand to hand combat can be done well in 1st person. In AoDA, fighting with a combat knife, a shiv, a club, or even just your fists is a ton of fun…although the curved ulak knives you get in the new campaign (seen in the Chronicles of Riddick movie) are undeniably my favorite melee weapon.

Because a couple friends of mine at work were interested in giving it a try, I've actually gotten “back” into play World of Warcraft again. I use “back” very loosely, because I've only played it a little for like 2 months total.
WoW with people to play with is vastly superior to playing alone. Anyway, that's what is sucking my time away currently.

So I hit up the $9.99 game sale at Best Buy on Sunday. It's a good thing that I got there when the store opened because a bunch of people pretty much rushed to the 360 section to grab up everything that was on sale. It was also lucky that I was the second person to reach the aisle.
Anyway, I wanted to get Pure and Soulcalibur IV, but they didn't have them in stock. I also wanted to get Devil May Cry 4, but somebody else got the only copy. So, I ended up buying Too Human and Infinite Undiscovery. I also picked up Bully from GameStop this weekend, but it wouldn't work when I popped it into my 360, so I've got to go back and exchange it today.
So what did I play this weekend? Well, I played some Peggle, a few different demos (the Red Faction: Guerrilla demo is quite a bit of fun), and a couple hours of Too Human. Too Human wasn't that much fun until I started to get the hang of the battle system. Once I started figuring out how to chain combos together, I started to have a bunch of fun chopping my way through a ton of bad guys. I'll certainly get my $10 out of it.

I bought the Cops & Robbers pack for Burnout Paradise this weekend. It comes with the new mode and 30 or so cop cars that you can drive any time you want. I have to say that playing capture the flag in speedy cars is a ton of fun. When you get everybody into a small intersection, fighting over the pile of gold, there are a lot of crazy crashes, huge pile-ups, and narrow getaways. If you're looking for an excuse to get back into Paradise City, Cops & Robbers could be your answer. Now if they'll only get Big Surf Island released soon, I'll be really happy.

Oh yeah! I've also been playing a lot of Bully as well. The game is a lot of fun. The world is fairly big with lot sof stuff to do, but it isn't so sprawling that the quality suffers. My favorite thing about the game is the excellent music. It does a great job of instilling a sense of adventure to everything you're doing, especially the music that plays when you are riding a bike. The humor in the game is also very good with a lot of the characters saying funny stuff, even when you're just walking by.

I played Bully for quite a while, then got sidetracked by something else. It's pretty fun. But it takes a lot for an open world game to keep my attention for long periods of time.
I would like to use the new DLC for Burnout as an excuse to get back into it. However, I need to actually get the DLC first. :)

I'm glad that Bully isn't quite as wide open as other open world games. It makes finding your way around a whole lot easier. I rarely have to use the map any more, unless I am looking to see the specific spot a new task popped up at.
Tonight I plan on finishing the last couple of go-kart races so I can unlock the lovely go-kart for me to drive around town in.

Yeah, it isn't really the “world” in open world games that tends to kill things for me. It's the “you can do anything” aspect. When you can do anything, I usually tend to end up doing nothing, or trying to do everything. I need a little more focus in my games. But that isn't to say I don't like Bully. I did. And I like Saints Row as well. But they can't hold my attention for very long.

Did you ever play Crackdown? While that game is far from perfect, I thought it was a fun playground to mess around in. It was good enough that I hope they end up making another one.
