Sony has confirmed the long running rumors. It will be launching the PS3 slim for $299 dollars. The system will be 33% smaller, 36% lighter, and include a 120 gig hard drive. Release date varies by region, but will be everywhere by September 1st.

K-Mart slipped up with their pre-order page this morning, showing it in the US on August 24th. So that may be the date that Americans see it.

I actually heard that because of the type of rollout they are doing, many areas will see it earlier than September.  Regardless, it's not that far away seeing as how it's already mid-August.

Well, like I said in the post, K-mart slipped the date this morning as “August 24th”. So that's 6 days from now, if true. But they have since changed the date to September 1st. So who knows.

So, the word is that the PS3 slim will hit stores on Tuesday/Wednesday of this week. So I'll be picking it up then.

Initially, I'll only grab the system and pick up a couple PSN games. I'm a sucker for Downloadable games. For $5-15, I can usually get a lot more for my value than I do with full $60 games. If I'm only going to play a game for 5-15 hours, I can usually get that much from either. Might as well go the cheap way.

From the beginning, PixelJunk Monsters was the game that called to me the most. It looks like a really original take on Tower Defense games, without completely changing how things work (like Plants vs Zombies did, even though that was fun too). Since I'm a huge TD fan, that will be the first game I pick up.

The second game I grab will be Fat Princess. It looks to be an insanely fun and quirky class-based “capture the flag/obese princess” game. This is exactly the type of game that I usually sink the most time into. User reviews indicate that there are lots of people tossing in 20+ hours into this game, and I think I'll be able to get that easily.

As far as other downloadable games go, I'm keeping an eye on The Last Man and Shatter. They look really original. However, they also look a lot less engaging and time consuming. So I'll probably hold off on them until I have a lull in games.

The first actual game I'll get for the system will likely be Uncharted. I've kept an eye on this game for a while, and now that it's discounted to $30 and has a sequel coming out this fall, it seems like a good time to pick it up.

I would actually get LittleBigPlanet first, because I love games that make it easy to create your own content. However, the game is about to get a new edition that includes a bunch of DLC content on the disc. So I'll hold off until that launches in September to get it. But I definitely can't wait.

The other games on my list are going to have to wait until I have more money. But I for sure want to get Infamous, Resistance, and Killzone 2. I'm not a big fan of Metal Gear Solid, so I probably won't pick that up. Never got into the series before, and I can't see that changing.

Anyone else have a game plan for when/if they pick up a slim?

If/when I pick up a PS3, I definitely want to get Uncharted.  It is the type of game that is right up my alley.  I would also keep my eye on Heavy Rain since it is looking better and better the more they've shown it.  Perhaps I'll even be able to afford a PS3 by the time it comes out.

I've put off every other game and decided to pick up Valkyria Chronicles. Now if I could actually find it. It's a very hard to find game. But it's a beautiful game. It only runs $40, but it's probably about 3 times the length of Uncharted, so I'm going to pick it up to hold me over until I have more money. It's a combination RPG/RTS/Shooter. Very cool, and yet bizarre. Loved the demo.

So far, I've only got Fat Princess and PixelJunk Monsters. Both are cool. I've been supplementing that with demos so far. But since I have Batman right now, I'm not looking to get much more at the time being.

$254 for the Slim with free shipping from Dell. Not a bad deal, if someone is looking to buy one.

The other weekend, I traded about 40 games or so into Toys R Us (they give you store credit for used games now).  I ended up with enough to get me a brand new PS3 Slim for free, so I picked one up on Friday.  Of course the three games and brand new HDTV I bought the next day weren't so free, but the PS3 is awesome.  I've got Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction, and Motorstorm to keep me busy for quite a while.
