Reviews are rolling in now, and it's looking great for the game.

IGN's Written Review

IGN's Video Review

Joystiq's Written Review

IGN claims it's the best comic book video game ever, and Joystiq claims that it's the best game of 2009. Game Informer said it was very Bioshock-esque. The only complaints I've heard so far come from the boos fights. Everything else looks like a ton of fun. IGN reported a playtime of 12 hours, less if you don't seek out the riddles. Sounds like a solid playtime.

Here's my knee-jerk reaction after about an hour or so of playing the game last night: awesome.  The beginning of the game is a bit different from the demo as there is a lengthy intro section while walking deep into the asylum and the room at the end of the demo is actually a bit further into the game in a different location.

So far, I've gotten a few collectibles, unlocked a couple of upgrades, beat a bunch of goons into submission, crawled through several vents, and made my way outdoors.  If you like Batman at all, this game is totally worth checking out. :D

This is my awesome signature…please don’t step on it.

It only gets better. The variety of the game, from beat-em-up to stealth to evasion missions…it's all very cool, and stays fresh. I'm 36% in (about 6.5 hours, plus another 1.5 in challenges). I'm going to do another play time rally tonight. It's going to be a blast.

Could resist getting it any longer, eh?

I decided that the $20 gift card at Toys R Us was too good to pass up….plus all the insanely great reviews for the game pushed me over the edge.  I'm glad they did because this game is totally worth it.

I have to say that the first Scarecrow section (I hear that there are more) was totally unexpected and freaking awesome. I just got the Batclaw last night, but I haven't really tried it out yet as I went to bed right after getting it.

Beat the game this morning. Unfortunately, I had to go through on medium, so I probably won't be getting that hard achievement. Probably ok anyway, since I don't know how in the hell I would get a 40 point combo. The most I've got is 26 points.

I beat the story mode this weekend.  Now I'm going to start in on the challenge rooms.

The biggest combo I got was 43.  My advice is to slow things down a little bit with the button presses, and use the evade maneuver a lot.  You keep your combo when you're flipping around, provided you attack somebody as soon as you stop jumping about.  Plus, it's fun flipping over the top of guys.

The problem is, I either run out of guys, or come up against red guys. I haven't figured out a way to keep my combo going while fighting red guys yet. They require a stun, and that ends my combo.

I don't remember exactly what part of the game I did the huge combo, but I don't think there were any red guys.  There were at least eight guys total though.  By the time you've knocked everybody down, a few are startiing to stand back up, but you can knock them back down before they completely get on their feet.

Also, I can't recommend the double-tap A avoidance tactic enough.  You can jump around all day, and the clock on your combo counter is paused the entire time, allowing you to pick and choose when and where you'll start smasing goons again.

A good place to practice is the first challenge room as the guys are all pretty normal, and it lets you practice the rhythm of bouncing between guys rather than sticking to one at a time.  There probably aren't enough guys to get a 40-hit combo, but it is an easy place to practice hand-to-hand combat.

Yeah, I can do the bouncing just fine. But something usually goes wrong. Especially the whole running out of people to fight problem. OR people not getting up fast enough.

Throw a ground takedown in there.  It keeps your combo going, and it gives other guys enough time to get back up.

Good suggesting. Did you get the achievement for the perfect combo as well? I can never remember to mix in the different moves, because I'm afraid I'll hit one that has already been used, and break my combo.

I have not done it yet, although I tried a couple times.  As long as you don't get hit with any cheap shots, I don't think it will be too difficult to get.  In order to get it, I think you have to throw a bunch of regular punches (to build up your multiplier for special moves), do a regular counter move, use a batarang, use the batclaw, use the throw a baddie special move, use the unblockable takedown special move, and do a regular ground takedown all in one combo.

The only thing that throws a little wrench in there is I don't think you can do the special moves right next to each other.  I tried to do the unblockable takedown right after throwing a guy, and it didn't seem to work.  However, if you throw a couple regular punches in between, you can then do it just fine.

Here's another tip that I am about 85% sure on without having the game in front of me to check:  the unblockable special move will work on opponents with knives and shock sticks.  If I am correct, then you can try to avoid those guys for a few moves until your combo gets built up and then take them out using the special move with little to no fuss.
