Anyone have a netbook? I'm considering getting one for light laptop usage (Taking notes, web browsing, etc) when I'm away from home. I'd like to have access to BoardGameGeek while at Game night, take notes at my RPG night, browse the internet when I should be eating, etc.

I'm considering the Asus Eee 1000HE, which you can find now for about $365-$399. Plus, it comes in Oh-So-Sexy Blue (That's the official name of the color, I swear).  Obviously it isn't going to do any gaming (Maybe the occasional flash game), but that's ok. Anytime I want games, I should be at home, where I can handle them just fine.

I have never used a netbook, but I recently bought a $400 laptop.  It's really nice to be able to sit on the couch and surf the net, write articles, or watch something on Hulu or Netflix while my wife watches something on TV I'm not interested in.

This is my awesome signature…please don’t step on it.

Ooo, being able to edit my Netflix queue would also be cool.

Where I work, we have a quarterly computer purchase program. We fill out an application, and 15 people are selected to participate each quarter. I don't think they've ever filled that quota, because I've never seen anyone get rejected. After you are approved, you pay the money back over a period of 12 months straight out of your paycheck. It's a really cool service that I've not made use of yet.

I'm thinking I'll get myself and my wife one. They fulfill just about every need I might have right now, and they are so tiny, you can pretty much carry them anywhere. I have a bag that I carry around all the time now, so I'll be able to store it in there.

I'm looking for a netbook at the moment. What I'm waiting for is a good quality one that comes with 3G built in (has a SIM card slot). I have a 3G SIM card just for internet access, so I can just slot this into the netbook and use it to surf anywhere. There are a few on the market but they are either very expensive (the Sony Vaio P Series) or poor quality (Advent 4213).

The Asus Eee PC 1000HE is a good piece of kit and should be fine for what you want to use it for. I'm currently waiting for Asus to announce a release date on a variant of this, the Eee PC 1000HG. This has 3G built in and looks like just the device for me.

Asus make all the best Netbooks, so I would definitely recommend any of them.

As a MacHead I eagerly await the rumored Apple MacNet Book.  Of course, Apple rumors are accurate about as often as the National Enquirer.

With Apple's pricing of computers, I'm not sure I'd be interested. An $800 Netbook just doesn't appeal to me.

I think I'm going to be holding off a couple months. Mostly I want one before I take my next cruise, which is in October. So I've heard a lot about what's coming up next, and I think I'll wait and see. Maybe we'll get backlit keyboards and a on/off switch for the network card by then. :)

I've used a netbook before but found myself selling it off only after having it for 6 months. The responce times and the multi prossessing speeds killed me. I've upgraded to a M11X a my main computer and have found it to be a good compromise between portability and power. That said I havn't played with a netbook from the last few tech cycles so newer ones are probably much better. If you havn't gotten one yet I'd say wait for the newer intel and AMD sandybeach and fusion integrated processors as one of those combined with an SSD could make very tempting lightwieght but power user friendly netbook that appeals to those of us that don't want to switch to a tablet for moble use this early into the tablet wars.
