There's a new star Trek trailer out now.  I'm sure that it's attached to Watchmen, but it has also made its way online.

This is my awesome signature…please don’t step on it.

I just have to say that this is looking more and more amazing with every new trailer.  It should have some great visuals at the very least.

Trailer “spoilers”:

From this particular trailer, I really enjoyed the squid-like ship, the imploding planet  in the middle of the trailer, the wide shot of Kirk on the ice, the short shot on a balcony with rock formations and a pillar of fire in the background (on Vulcan perhaps?), and the miscellaneous spaceship mayhem at the end.

This is my awesome signature…please don’t step on it.

Definitely more of a 'hardcore' trailer than the mainstream trailers we have seen so far, I think. A lot of fun. But personally, I felt that the imploding planet scene seemed like a cheap special effect, for some reason. Just seemed like something you would see from an amateur video tutorial for special effects, to me.

Did you watch it in HD?  I thought the trailer, and that shot in particular, looked awesome in the 720p version that I watched from Apple's site.

This is my awesome signature…please don’t step on it.

I just got back from Watchmen, and we got this trailer along with the new one for Terminator Salvation.  We also got trailers for Knowing, Haunting in Connecticut, and Race to Witch Mountain.

This is my awesome signature…please don’t step on it.

Hrmmm… I'm still on the fence. I'm for updating, I'm for breathing new life… I'm just not getting a real “Trek” vibe yet. None of the footage I've seen has shown me there's a lot of heart and hope in this movie… just 'splosions and sex scene.

Call me a heretic, but I am A O.K. with a non-Trek vibe. I love Star Trek, but it has obviously not been working with the typical vibe lately. I am ok for a change in direction/feel/pace.

It's at the point were pretty much anything would be an improvement. Trek hasn't been any good since like 1990.

'93 is when DS9 ended, so that's the point where it stopped being great for me. I enjoyed the last season of Enterprise, but it still wasn't great. Voyager can bite me.

I wasn't too excited about a new Trek movie before. The last movie didn't do much for me, and I really couldn't get into Enterprise. I tried, but I stopped watching somewhere in the second season. I watched quite a bit of DS9, but never got hooked. And although I have watched many of the original series ad movies, as my hubby likes them, I never really got into them either. Maybe because they were so dated? I don't really know. That said, I absolutely love TNG (Captain Picard rocks!), and we were really into Voyager when it was on.

I knew I would watch the new movie, but wasn't planning on rushing to see it opening night or anything. I saw the trailer in front of Watchmen. It was fabulous. Like Saberj, I don't mind the feel of a new Trek type movie coming on. IMO, the other movies were all like long episodes. They did have more special effect scenes and more action, but I still felt they were made for tv movies. This one doesn't have that feel to me and I like it. Because of this, I think this could possibly get non-trekkies in to see it. I think I already have my mom convinced to go see it and I might be able to get my sister to go with her hubby (he hasn't been able to get her to go to a Trek movie before).

Also, a huge plus for me…. My husband wants to see it… In the theatre. The last time he went to the movies was when we saw Return of the King in 2003! He watches plenty of movies at home, and will go to the drive-in in the summer, but he hates the theatre. He loves all HP movies (he's watched the dvds more than me), but he's never gone to the theater to see one.Confused This movie is now a big deal, lol.

Original Star Trek rulz.  I actually like every single original cast movie. Star Trek V (directed by Mr. William Shatner, thank you) has a lot of overlooked charm. THEY SHOOT GOD IN THE FACE WITH LAZERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Eet it bitches!

And did DS9 really end in 93? That doesn't sound right. Did you mean TNG?

TNG ended in 94. I don't know when DS9 ended.
