Hmmm….

I haven't really planned on checking this out because the promos for it just turn me off for some reason.  I don't really know much about it other than the commercials looked horrible to me.

This is my awesome signature…please don’t step on it.

I'd recommend giving it a look. The first episode was kind of boring. There's a soldier named David and he blows up a tank that's named Goliath. Somewhat obvious don't you think. But it's still a really interesting and unique pseudo sci-fi premise. The battle scenes at the front lines looked great. And the cast is great, although the could've been utilized better.

It has a BSG vibe in that there's religious and political themes. It's not as thoughtful or emotional. But whatever BSG is almost over, beggars can't be choosers.

There's an evil military industrial complex and the titular trecherous king hates gays; all of which rings very left wing. On the other end there's a good hearted farmer boy vs mean cynical city people motiff. And a contempt for a free press during times of war.

The second hour was waay better. Dylan Baker came to the forefront and was great. Eamon Walker had more screen time as well. I like that they're positioning Ian McShane as a conflicted villain type.

But it's all too telegraphed. From wikipedia:

Yahweh withdraws his favour from Saul, king of Israel, and sends the prophet Samuel to seek a new king for his people from the sons of Jesse of Bethlehem. Seven of Jesse's sons pass before Samuel, but Samuel says “The LORD has not chosen these.” He then asks “Are these all the sons you have?” and Jesse answers, “There is still the youngest but he is tending the sheep.” David is brought to Samuel, and “the LORD said, “Rise and anoint him; he is the one.”[1]
