So, what does everybody think of Dollhouse so far?

I liked the pilot, but it wasn't anything great.  The second episode was much better, but it has a long way to go before it gets as good as past Whedon shows.  I'm looking forward to seeing if it improves again during the third episode tonight.

This is my awesome signature…please don’t step on it.

Don't think it's fair to write this off already, just look at Buffy/Angel Joss usually takes a few episodes to get things going. I'm definitely hopefull.

Didn't expect Eliza to be this good, Amy Acker will always hold a special place in my heard and i like the guy playing Topher. I do not like echo's handler though, not sure if it's the character or the actor. Seeing Matt Keeslar was great, and he is scarely good at playing evil.

I consider Episode 1 and 2 to be on the same level, personally. Which is fine. I've liked both episodes.

But that reminds me. Did you guys see where Dushku says the show will be awesome by Episode 6? Apparently it gets much more “Joss-like” by then. My question is, can it survive that long?

At 9 p.m., a repeat of “Flashpoint,” brought CBS down to a 5.1/9, but still kept the network in front. ABC stayed in second with 3.5/6 for “Supernanny,” and FOX was in third with a 2.7/5 for “Dollhouse,” pretty much keeping most of its audience from last week's premiere. NBC's “Friday Night Lights” wasn't far behind with a 2.5/4, and the finale of The CW's “13: Fear Is Real” too a paltry 0.6/1.

So about episode 3…

pretty much hated the storyline, suppose it might appeall to others who could get drawn into dollhouse because of it, so i'll forgive them (this time).

Echo's handler guy again showing some extreme signs of caring about her, which i still say is weird after only 3 months. The overarching storyline is being developed nicely though, really wondering where this is heading. Two episodes in a row now where echo has a really badass girlpower side, hope this doesn't become the standard. Personally preferred the imprint in episode one.

Imo, weakest episode so far.

I watched all of episode one, flat out skipped episode two and watched about half of episode three before giving up and watching “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” instead. (Yes, you read that right.) I don’t think this show is for me.

So far I am not really sure what I think. Even though Buffy's first season was weak (IMO) compared to the rest of the series, I think it held my attention better. Because I love Joss I will continue watching for a while. I have been know to stop watching shows because I couldn't get into them, and then they later picked up speed (Chuck being one).

Does anybody else think it's weird how the announcer for Dollhouse is the same one for Buffy? I can't hear that voice and not think of Buffy. It brings back some memories of the excitement before a new ep of Buffy started.

I have to say I'm mostly impressed so far. I enjoyed episode one, but was not thrilled. I really liked episode 2. And I remember while I was watching episode 3 I was going “I could love this show” even though I was not huge on the plot of the episode itself.

I think it has a lot of potential and it just needs to hang on three more weeks… although it's unfortunate that the special episode 6 that we're all supposed to be waiting for is on the same night as the BSG finale which starts at 9… I know I won't be watching Dollhouse that night.

Hopefully Fox sees that success that Dollhouse has been having on Hulu and iTunes and will let it finish out the season.

I've watched episode one a few times now, and I have to say that i felt the pilot was really strong. There were a lot of small things that I really loved in it. For example, the fact that the show opens with Dushku and Williams drinking tea, because that's what girls do in a dollhouse, they make their dolls have tea parties. There was a lot of little touches like that in the premiere that I really dug.

The second episode I've seen twice (this time by accident) and I feel like it was pretty gook, just a bit generic. Too many moments that you can see coming a mile away. I feel like they should be focusing on surprising the audience rather than doing an episode that was so much “by the numbers”. The only thing that I really liked about it, was all the flashbacks to the Alpha incident. That was good stuff.

The third episode, imo, was easily the best episode to date. I don't get all the hate AT ALL. Okay, so it was about a pop singer… so what? It was still a phenomenal episode. I was really impressed with it.

I'm just ready for a different kind of “engagement” for Echo. Something with a little less action, because that's not what the Dollhouse is supposed be all about. In fact, I thought they were supposed to be shying away from jobs like that.

I thought it was interesting how they drew parrellels between the dollhouse people and pop singer superstar types. They're both handeled and manicured by others, expected to be all things to all people. Made and modeled after the fantasies of others.

The episode portrays whateverhernamewas as the worlds most expensive stripper. But then it doubles back on our expectation and has a lot of respect for her. She's talented, driven and ambitious. It shows her having these diva moments but puts them in a sort of sympathetic light. She works hard all day and then on her down time her manager contracts her to hang out with some obsessive fan. That's not just annoying, it's creepy and exploitative.

She was a good character.

I'm still hanging in there with Dollhouse, but am not yet convinced.  That head nod between Echo and Sierra at the end of E3 made me want to turn in for E4 in hopes that it won't all be just eye candy.

I finally watched episode 3 last night, and I'm still loving the show so far. I differ slightly from Scott's overall opinion. Episode 2 is my favorite so far, with Episode 3 slightly behind, and the pilot was a great starting point.

It kind of bothered me that Episode 2 was ripped from “The Most Dangerous Game“. But that didn't stop me from enjoying it. I really like the dynamic that started to build between Echo and Boyd in that episode. I don't feel that it was forced at all. Cops often form a sort of bond with victims, and that's mostly what he considers Echo to be.

I really don't think this show will survive past season 1. I hope it will, but I don't think so. Unless Dushku really knows what she is talking about when she says it really takes off at episode 6. But with that said, I'm a bit sad to hear that Amy Acker has a pilot episode for a new show, on the off chance that this one survives.

Apparently the Penny Arcade guys hated Dollhouse (see last Fridays's comic), but I have no idea where they are coming from.  The show certainly isn't perfect, but it has been really enjoyable so far.  I like all the little hints they've been dropping about the overall picture, and I've enjoyed the individual episodes as well.

This is my awesome signature…please don’t step on it.

See, now I liked that it was an homage to The Most Dangerous Game. It's not the first time a Whedon show made references to literature and those little touches just add something for me. Could be the fact that I have a degree in English. Who knows.

I am enjoying the show. I don't think comparisons to Whedon's other work are fair quite yet. First of all, this is the first series we've seen from Joss in 5 years. He's in a different place now from where he was at the end of Angel. And frankly, I'm liking this dark and morally ambiguous place. Are there moments that down right creep me out (the dolls are physically affected by their imprints i.e. asthma)? Yes. And I like that. It's a strange turn to be on the bad guy's side and watch Echo become more and more aware of herself. The moment at the end of this week's episode literally made me cheer. While this episode wasn't my favorite thus far, I loved what was said with it (the rockstar/doll comparison; friendship beyond imprints, etc).

My fear is that we live in an instant gratification society and serialized TV suffers for it. I enjoy the ride each episode take me on and the hints it lays for future episodes. That's why I watch SO much scripted TV. And why I can't stand Reality TV.

Ok, but that's another soapbox for another day. If you've been able to enjoy the show thus far, I hope you stick with it! If not, that's cool too. Everything is not for everyone. But as for me: In Joss I trust!

Well, the difference is that you consider it an homage, and I consider it a rip-off. It's one thing to reference a literary work. It's another thing to use that as the entire basis of your episode. I don't think a degree in English is really relevant to that debate. You either think it's flattering, or you think it's cheap. And how you feel in that regard will determine how you like it.

Difference of opinion. And disregard the English degree comment if it's that big of a deal. I just once heard it said that there are about 5 – 10 actual stories. It's the originality in the way in which they are told that makes them different. We've seen all of these stories before in many many ways (The original The Most Dangerous Game film version 1932, the 1978 Japanese remake, and 1994's loose adaptation Surviving the Game). It was the way The Most Dangerous Game was used to further Dollhouse's plot that I enjoyed. And that is just my opinion. You are welcome to yours.

Anyways, Most Dangerous Game is public domain. It's there to shared. So start sharing. Shame on all the movies that dont' rip it off.

Oh, I wasn't offended by the English Literature comment, I just think it's moot in that particular example. I appreciate The Most Dangerous Game. It's one of those stories/movies that really stuck with me from school. We read it, we watched on of the various film versions. It was good.

So the English degree seems to imply that you enjoyed the show quite a bit because of the respect you had for the original source material. Which is not a different basis that I have. I felt a little let down also because of the respect I have for the material. Same origin point, different destinations. That's all.

Irrelevant to my point. My opinion doesn't change based on copyright laws. I have no problem with an homage, but this almost a direct interruptation. From a movie that is supposed to be working on building it's fanbase based on an original premise. It should not be borrowing, respecting, using, stealing, or whatever other term you choose to use, other source material in episode 2. Save that for your second season, and use this time to convince people that you deserve a second season.

You know, almost every movie that Disney has created is based on public domain material. But they are still notorious for “stealing” other stories. I can only think of one case in which they actually took a property that wasn't public domain and made a profit from it. Yet, they still get the notoriety of stealing all their best works. That's not because people don't care about that it was perfectly legal to use those properties, it's because people don't feel that Disney can do original thingsto the same level. Prove that you can stand on your own feet, then by all means, stand on the crutch of another fantastic story. You will get to pay your homage, but you will also have proven that you can do it on your own just as well.

Mostly, my complaint wasn't about the fact that they used the material, or how good the episode was. It was the fact that they haven't even built the basis for their own stories, and already they were using other work to support them. Overall, the episode was fantastic from my point of view. I just dislike the method of getting there.

Getting back on the subject of the show, does anyone know what the original first episode was supposed to be? Have we seen it yet?
