Just wached The Waters of Mars and not wanting to give out any spoilers it's fantastic! Tennant shows just how great an actor he is.  okay slight  spoiler coming .

the stuff near the end is the first time I can think of that shows how the Doctor could become the Valeyard.  also the next time knocked my socks off Can' t wait till Chistmas

Just finished it myself. Of course I enjoyed its been a long wait. I agree the ending was great and the previews I sat open mouthed. The begining to me was weak. The concept wasn’t original. I had seen it done in 42, Impossible Planet,Fear Her,Human Nature, Ect… I will be sad to see Tennant go. It would have great if he would have stayed for Moffets first year. Oh well. Have you been watching Sarah Jane Adventures? I thought i had seen a promo with Doctor in it. We’ll see I am only on episode 2.

Do you need any special background knowledge.  I'm still slowing watching the Eccleston years.

If you are still only in the episodes with Eccleston as the Doctor, then I suggest that you just continue watching in order.  Eccleston is really good (and fun to watch), but Tennant pretty much owns the character from the moment he shows up on screen.

As for The Waters of Mars, I really enjoyed it (watched it recently), but it wasn't my favorite episode (or special for that matter) with Tennant.  I've still got to watch the first part of the End of Time special that aired last week.  At least this way I won't have that long of a wait until the second part is out.
