Kera's goodbye to Anders bothered me as well. She loves him? Really? I certaintly never got that from the show. It never really seemed to me like the writers or even the actress knew how Kera felt about Anders. There is no emotional bridge for these charcters to cross from here to there.
Really, you never thought Kara loved Anders? I did. I think because she is (or was) the way she is, she didn't really get it until she thought she was losing him. Like she said before, if she ever found out he was a cylon she'd put a bullet in him. Then she finds out he actually is and never does. She doesn't even seem to care. Then once he gets shot she certainly seems to love him and know what she could lose, IMO. I guess you could chalk it up to her wanting to know the info in his head, but I don't think so.

For some reason last night I was thinking a lot about Tyrol. His ending is really haunting if you think about it. His wife murdered, the woman he thought he loved betrayed him, and then some other woman; who he was supposedly in love with 2000 years ago; he ends up murdering! All within the span of probably a few weeks.
And then in the end he just goes off to an unpopulated region of earth to spend out the rest of his days. How awful.
But then I started to think about this new Earth and constellations. One of their clues along the way was a star map of the constellations viewed from Earth. Gaeta confirmed them when they arrived on Cylon Earth. But if they're on our Earth….
For everything I loved there's something I hate.
I loved Tyrol's ending. And I am SOOO glad Tory got murdered. SO glad.
Although the time frame doesn't match up, historically speaking, I think they were implying that Tyrol is the one who helps form the pre-historic settlements in Scotland (although if we want to get technical, the sea levels at the time meant that England/Scotland were actually the same landmass as Europe.) and I've read an interview where the actor said he felt it was very fitting that an engineer is essentially the founder of Scotland. :P
I will agree, when it finally ocurred to me, the constellation thing has been driving me nuts! I'm trying to find if RDM has responded to this somewhere.

@ I think they were implying that Tyrol is the one who helps form the pre-historic settlements in Scotland
Isn't that region where Neanderthal comes from? If they were trying to imply that Tyrol “founded” scottland then they didn't do a very good job since they make it clear that
a) he goes alone
b) the areas uninhabited
In case I was confusing I want to clarify when I said his ending was “awful” I didn't mean I didnt like it. I meant that it was tragic for his character.
@ I'm trying to find if RDM has responded to this somewhere.
I was complaining about the constellations though. It seems like RDM has been giving an awful lot of interviews about the finale and they all seem to be about making up excusing for loose ends and covinger his ass. He doesn't seem at all comfortable with letting the episode speak for itself, which is odd for a guy who also wants us to accept ambiguity as a resolution. To me this behavior a tacit admission of guilt.
Frankly, I don't care to hear RDM's excuse for the constellations. From a story telling stand point it's herky-jerky. They find Earth, only to be disappointed. And then later accidentally stumble upon a planet that's exactly what they expected.
Why did “god” send them a viper that lead them to dead planet in the first place?
Why was her viper/corpse on the surface of cylon Earth since she clearly went to new Earth?
Why did he awaken the final five in the first place? What did they have to do with anything? Why tell them they're cylons but not give them their memories back?
The song that leads them to new Earth was the dylan cover they all heard at the end of season 3. That was two years ago! It's been two seasons of shaggy dog stories ever since.
Pregnant Six's, Baltar cults, fake Earths, final fives. It's all just been left over plot strands colliding into one another. Left over from a time when the show was relevent. When it asked interesting questions instead of providing pat, obligator answers.

I also think it was implied that God was even behind Gaeta's mutiny, in Judas' betrayal sort of way. If you watch the episode there's a moment in CiC when he kind of “snaps out” of something, like he was just playing a role. I think that's what was meant by his line “I hope they realize who I am”, and his last line about his leg no longer itching, signifying forgivness.
This might sound outlandish, but “God” figures into your story so prominently maybe you should go the distance and just introduce him as a character. Have him meet Kera on Earth or something (in an opera house!). It might help it seem less like the writers just clumsily writing themselves out of a corner.

Rusty- I will say, this has been my constant source of strife this season… I feel like if you don't listen to the podcast and read all the RDM interviews than you won't get what's going on completely. I've always been of the belief that things like that should SUPPLEMENT the show, you should be able to watch the show without them. If it weren't for my BSG buddy at work who obsessively listens/reads all this stuff than I wouldn't know any of it.
It does bother me the strands left open (the Cult of Baltar mostly- what was the point of that plotline? Or for that matter Baltar for all of season 4?) but for the most part in retrospect now I did enjoy most portions of the finale. To be fair, I don't think there was a way to please everyone perfectly.
And I think I'm in the minority- I adored the last five minutes and enjoyed the idea that the song is in the collective unconciousness of all humanity.

To fuck with everyone. I want him to please me. The song and the Robots, all that stuff I liked. I think I have a pretty open mind about strange stuff like that. I like where they leave Kera as well.
The what I have a problem with is stuff like Balter getting the guns. That episode has to be the Ron Moore falling back on his podcast. The episode ends with Adama inexplicably handing over the guns and security detail to Balter. Then he release explaining that they filmed a bunch of scenes explaining it, but cut them all out. Then the affair is never mentioned ever agian. What awful storytelling.
I'm hard pressed to even name a plot point from seasons 4 + 5 that even mattered in the end. A good ending for me would've been if they managed to tie the discovery of new Earth, Phantom Six to the discovery of Earth.

I thought either they all would have to survive (Helo, Athena, and Hera) or both Helo and Athena would die leaving Baltar and Caprica 6 to raise Hera.
Holy cow! That would solve a lot of my problems with the finale. That would actually provide a reason to bring 6 and Balter together across the galaxy. So that they a cylon and a human could raise the half cylon half human mother of homo sapiens.
Works a little better then the two of them being the only people in the universe who can walk a baby down a hallway (and it has to the be the two of them together mind you. One of them couldn't possibly do it).
It would also make sense out what Virtual Six was talking about when she refered to Hera as their (Six and Baltar) child.
I wonder if that wasn't their original plan. Maybe they scrapped it because it was too much of a downer. “Helo and Athena die?! Ew.”

Yeah, I never got why Head Six (or who I should call Angel Six now, lol.) said it was their child. I started re-watching the entire series again and I began to think of things a bit differently now that I know how it all ends. I am thinking that A Six meant it as they will be the parents of the new race – of human and cylon. In a way they are. It is in their actions (with the help of the angels) that, in a very conflicting way, leads the two races living peacefully together.

LAME! Works waaaaaaay better the other way. Why do they need to have a vision about walking a kid down a hallway? Why did Roslin have the vision? What did she have to do with anything?
I really want to like the finale. I like elements of it. But goddam my problems have been multiplying like rabits. It just doesn't withstand any scrutiny. I feel they want me to just forget the first five years of the show I've been watching, and just think about the last two hours, and don't any questions. And if I do that then I'll enjoy the finale.
I mean, that fan fic ending that someone threw out there (saying they're glad it didn't happen?!?) is way better… by a lot… That's not good! I wish I could unread it. I feel like it was a spoiler for an episode I don't get to watch.
What happened?

In ‘the last frakkin special’ we get our rather sad answer – nothing was planned in advance. They just winged it. The showrunner spent several minutes explaining how they got close to the season 3 finale and only than started thinking of who would be the most interesting to turn into the final 4. and later, the same thing about the fifth. It was like, “Baltar and starbuck are too obvious, lets make it Ellen”.
So I imagine you’ll find a lot of holes when you rewatch old episodes.

I liked the finale. It was a nice conclusive end to the series and leaves no possibility for a new series or film with those same characters (or at least most of them).
