I know there are only 3 episodes left (4 for me as I haven't watched last nights ep, our Space channel that plays it is always glitchy so I can't watch it live anymore :( ), but seeing as how I started watching BSG mainly from recommendations from posters on the old forum, I was hoping some would still be around.
My thoughts so far are that obviously Starbuck is something more than human. I think for her to be a cylon is way too easy. I was thinking she may be a hybrid of some kind. Since she is artistic and her mother talked of her being “special”, I thought Daniel could be her father. I figure one copy survived somehow, or Ellen created another.
About Ellen being the 5th, I was totally shocked. I didn't see that one. I thought that possibly number 6 was based on a younger version of her. To me it makes sense since when Tigh first started sleeping with Caprica 6 he would see visions of Ellen. So far there has been no mention of it, so maybe not.
About the 13th tribe and Earth – does the fact that all 'human' life on Earth was Cylon, make us cylons??? Is that what the writers are trying to say? They could reproduce naturally, and they seemed to eat and do human activities. This part confuses me. When the series is finally wrapped up, I will have to go back and watch it from the beginning. It has been years since I've seen the first couple seasons. It will be interesting to see what foreshadowing will be found.

Episode 5×07 was like a beautiful haiku.
The hull creaks and moans
Lights flickering, Boomer snaps her bra
Last tube in the universe
So many memorable moments (Col Tigh remembering his sons corps) adding up to such a great payoff. I think it might be my favorite episode they've done.

Sorry Mrfids. I will put spoiler in the title.
Nice Haiku RJ!!!
I just watched ep 17 and woah, I LOVED it! It was fraking aweome.
SPOILERS for 17:
I guess that Daniel (the 8th cylon) is Kara's father. I was excited when I saw him playing the piano. They didn't say that he was Daniel, but they might as well have. So what does he have to do with all this besides Kara? Did he somehow have something to do with the implantation of the song in the others head? If he is messing with programing or minds, do you think he has anything to do with the six in Baltar's head? Or the Baltar in Caprica's head? And do those have anything to do with what Anders said about people seeing people, some saw women others men, before earth was destroyed???

I can't seem to edit the title. Usually most tv show threads have spoilers in them from the latest episode. That's why I didn't come back here until I watched it. That's also why I'm not venturing into the Watchmen thread as there are probably spoiler in there.

I'm glad you liked it Care (is your name procounced Care – y like Kerry ?) I think we're in the minority. I suspected that most people wouldn't care for it but it's still annoying how finicky people are with these shows.
Personally I hated season 4. One depressing / alienating episode after the next.
As fer whatisdick being her father / being Daniel. Apparently there's some controversy about but I feel like the episode just came out and told us so. Without actually having a scene where someone Starbuck says “Your my father! OMG! And also, you're not really here after all”).
And it makes sense that Cavil would box the Daniel because they knew something that he doesn't want the rest to know. It's the same reason he boxed D'Anna.
It all makes sense but people seem to have some problem with it that seems completely arbitrary to me.

I have really enjoyed season 4, especially this half. Season 3 was a disappointment to me though. I didn't know there was controversy about the Daniel thing. I guess I should go searching for other peoples opinions. I joined the forum at scifi but I don't think I've posted there since season 2. And I have always meant to listen to the commentaries by RM, but so far I haven't got around to them. They probably have some insight or teasers in them.
Oh, and it's Care like you care for something. My name is Carrie, but most people call me Care for short.

Season 4 has probably been my favorite season of the show so far. I've loved most of the episodes and even the worst ones aren't that bad (Sin Qua None and A Disquiet Follows My Soul). This second half has been fantastic.
Friday's episode was another great episode. The reveal of the piano song being “Watchtower” was one of the coolest moments of the entire series.

SPOILERS FOR SOMEBODY TO WATCH OVER ME!!!!
I'm convinced Kara's father is Daniel. I mean in the episode we found out his actual name was Dreilide Thrace, which I can't imagine that the “D” name connection isn't significant at this juncture. Also it's the only way he could have been playing “All Along The Watchtower” when Kara was little. Which, by the way, I started hyperventilating when I heard.
I also snagged this note from the battlestar wiki- The name 'Dreilide' is German for 'third eyelid' and refers to the inner eyelid, regarded as the gateway to the soul and realms of higher consciousness. The third eye is often associated with visions, clairvoyance, precognition, and out-of-body experiences, and people who have allegedly developed the capacity to use their third eyes are sometimes known as seers.

Really loved it so far.
One problem though: I found it very unbelievable when the admiral was convinced to supply Baltar’s militia with weapons. Baltar gave some speech about Galactica becoming a mixed ship with humans and cylons, and suddendly he had crates of rifles.

RDM explained the “give Baltar the guns” thing a little better in his podcast for the episode “Deadlock.” It's a shame it wasn't explained better in the episode.
Since the mutiny, Galactica's marine's are stretched to the limit. Adama simply doesn't have enough men to patrol the whole ship and keep the civilian population living in Dogsville in line. There were scenes cut from the episode where Adama and Roslin were actually considering using Centurions to maintain order. Baltar rightly points out that the civilians are simply not ready for that and offers to use his cult as a security force instead. It's the last “human solution” that he has.
Of course, there are probably going to be very bad reprucussions from this action, this being BSG and all.

that explains a lot, but that is sure to come back and bite the old man in the …
season 4 has been frakking awesome so far, hope they finish up the series in a decent manner so BSG will be a shining example for other series who never seem to be able to finish up their story.

Huhh, so I wonder if that could be another clue to Daniel being the one behind the visions. I know it's not exactly how they explained the 'third eyeld', but we are talking cylon here. Plus we saw the projected visions from Boomer so we know a bit more on how they work. Maybe he saw the path humanity and cylons were on and worked secretly to try to find a way for the 2 races to merge and live peacefully.

It' like the Pixies song
If man is Five
then the devil is Six
then god is Seven
And I think the editing in their scenes toghether makes it clear that Piano Man is her father.

I loved last night's episode. It's felt like forever since we got a good Starbuck episode and this one had me totally captivated. And I'm with you guys when she started playing a piano version of “Watchtower” I about died.
…and I officially hate Boomer. Never really liked her even in season 1 but now I flat out want to ring her neck.

Alright. Here's my theory Ellen is a copy of the original cylon architect. Think about it. If you knew you would outlive your designer, what better plan than to bring her along?
And now the 13th colony. As the final four said, the journey from Earth/to Earth took a lot of time with the ships they used at the time. So think about that. On the way to Earth the Cylons were able to design to design resurrection in the form of reproduction, or as it is called evolution. With that developed by the time Earth was reached the cylons had designed their own skin jobs and when the final five were born again later, they still had to use the same ships to get back to the colnies.

Will, what you wrote is a little unclear.
As far as I understand it:
*The original humans of Cobol created biological artificial life forms. We know some of these life forms as the final 5 (NOT called cylons).
*These humans scattered to the 12 colonies, while the artificials went to earth as the 13th tribe.
*Much much later, the colonial humans created METALIC artificial life forms which they called cylons.
*The cylons rebelled, and there was a war. this is when the final 5 came (after a long voyage from the destroyed earth with no FTL). The final 5 convinced the cylons to stop fighting, and promised them to create biological life forms for them (numbers 1-8). the colonials only knew that the cylons weren’t heard from for 40 years.
*number 1 boxes the Daniels, and sends the final 5 to live as colonials.
*The cylons, led by numbers 1-8, destroy the colonies and chase Galactica.
Now. When you say that “Ellen is a copy of the original cylon architect”, do you mean she was built with the mind of one of the original Cobol humans?

Actually, yes.

I'm loving Season 5. I do think Daniel is Kara's father, but not sure how there are multiple copies of her – unless Daniel was tracking her and came upon her and recreated her and her ship.
I expect to be surprised. I did expect Ellen to be one of the 5. I need to look at the timeline of Ellen vs. Adama's relationship with Tigh – at times I do what the writers want me to do: suspect Adama of being a Cylon.
BTW, no one mentioned “The Face of the Enemy” webisodes and how important they are in understanding Gado's S5 motivation.

I completely understand all of that. Where I get confused is:
- When could the 13th tribe start reproducing naturally? They didn't always as they make reference to a different form of resurrection tech. And did the Humans use this tech as well?
- In ep 11 (?) they showed Galen walking through a market. Do they need to eat and sleep as humans do? I know they do, but do they have to.
- What about aging? They must age, or Adama would have noticed that Tigh didn't. Right? But then, maybe not as it took them so long to get to the Colonies to stop the war with the cylons and they would have been super old.
- Did the 13th tribe come to earth after we destroyed ourselves? If so then why weren't any human remains found? If not then are we the 13th tribe and the writers are showing us a vision of what was and what will be? How do WE fit into the story?
