Links Hard To See

Has anyone else noticed that URL's are hard to pick out?  The links look exactly the same as normal text for me.  If you don't put your mouse cursor over them, you'd never know it was a link.

Is it like this for anybody else?

Yep. I thought at first I had to copy and paste it. Then I realized it was a link, but it looks normal. Regular things don't work either like the [url=] and [IMG] tags. I haven't tried adding a image or video with the buttons above yet. But the add a link is grey. I imagine if it worked we could have it so we could put the link into a word. It would probably be highlighted as well.

If you know HTML, you can click on the edit HTML button and “put the link into a word”.  It still doesn't make it any easier to see.  Links aren't even underlined.

This is a test.

Whoa!  So THAT'S how you do it.

First, type the text that you want to be a link.  Highlight it, and the “insert link” button becomes active.  Type your url into the box that comes up, and you've got a brand new link!

I guess the forum does something different for ones you just type out…

That was weird.  When I put the link in the above post, it was blue and underlined when I was editing it, but it looks like normal text again once I actually posted it.  I guess there is some sort of overriding style for the boards that is changing this.

At least we figured out how the link button works.  Now to see if I can manually change the color…..

This is another test.

If done after making a link: Underline, yes.  Color, no.

Blah blah blah

If done before making a link: Underline, yes.  Color, yes.

Cool. Did you do it by adding html? Or the link button? I want to try something too.

I'm aware of this issue. It's a CSS problem that I haven't had time to correct yet. It's at the top of my list. If I can remember it tonight at work, I'll fix it up. This is what happens when I try to hack and slice my way through CSS to change the look of an existing theme. Some things get changed that weren't supposed to be changed. :)

Nope, I did it using the link button.  If you write your text and color it first (using the button that looks like an “A”), it will keep the color when you turn it into a link.

Nevermind.  I tried doing it again, and it stayed black no matter what.  At least you can still add an underline if you want one.

The reason you saw the text in a different color when you typed it is because the editor uses different CSS code for their a tags. In the actual forum, the CSS is set to turn the A tag text to black (It had something to do with trying to make the Forum listing black rather than blue), thus it will override any other color. However, there is no rules for underline set in the CSS, so you can override that easily.

CSS is powerful, but tricky to use right if you aren't careful.

Also, forgot to address why you can change the color at all.

If you color the text, then link it, you are actually linking a span tag that is set to color the text. Whereas if you do it the other way around, then you are coloring an actual link, so it's overridden. Firebug is a neat tool for investigating that sort of thing.

Alright, so that's mostly got it. It could probably use some tweaking. Let me know what you think.

Links are blue for me now, so they are definitely much easier to see.  I don't really care what color they are so long as I can tel there is a link there.

Thanks for fixing it, Randy!Laugh

I set it to blue, because the post edit thing is red. So I wanted them to stand out from each other.
