Rock Band 2 Shipping this September
Monday, June 30th, 2008
Rock Band 2 has just been made official. Releasing in September on the Xbox 360, with the other consoles recieving the game "later this year". In addition, IGN has an excellent interview up with harmonix over at their site. Check it out. Some of my favorite bits from the article:
The most important question. Will Rock Band 1 DLC be playable in Rock Band 2?
Dan Teasdale: Yes. We’ve been developing Rock Band as a music platform from the start. All of the songs that you’ve purchased so far (and will be able to purchase in the future) are instantly playable and fully supported in Rock Band 2. We’ve even added some cool new features that let you play your DLC in different ways, which I think people will be very excited to get their hands on.
…
"Rock Band 2’s instruments will not disappoint. Like I mentioned before, our philosophy here is to innovate, then perfect. Along those lines, we’ve been able to take all of the feedback we’ve received to make quieter, more realistic, and more reliable instruments."
…
"Rock Band 2 has the strongest playlist we’ve ever assembled, and I think fans will be blown away not just at the spread, but also at the caliber of acts we’ve attracted."
…
"We’ve taken almost everything people have asked for in Rock Band and added it to Rock Band 2, as well as including some "first time ever" features."
More details will be released at E3 this year. Join us July 15th for GeekiNput’s live discussion of all the E3 events, including Rock Band 2!

Book of the Month
Y The Last Man Vol. 5In this final Deluxe Edition hardcover collecting Y #49-60, Yorick and Agent 355 prepare for their ultimate quest to reunite the last man with his lost love, while the person, people or thing behind the disaster that wiped out half of humanity is revealed. Then, Yorick Brown's long journey through an Earth populated only by women comes to its dramatic, unexpected conclusion.
Cross-Title DLC? Improved navigation? Very-likely online BWT mode? Supposedly the best Track List (Who hasn’t heard that before?). Count me the freak in.
Wish list of un-announced features:
- Rock Band 1 on-disc-music backwards compatibility
- Keyboards
- Option to turn off the Bass pedal on the drums, at least on easier settings.
- Lots of Queen and Bon Jovi
Hmmmm…I’m not sure I would want keyboards. I guess I would just have to see how they would simplify a keyboard into a peripheral that would be fun to play. Anything I come up with either seems too simple, and therefore too dumbed down, or not enough different from an actual keyboard to make a difference.
Maybe they’ll just allow you to hook up a real keyboard….
Happy now bitches.
This Rock Band article is great! Thanks for posting it Randy!
This is a comment about Rock Band. This is only a comment. If this had been an actual rock band, you would have heard them by now.
Rockband 2 sounds really cool, thanks for posting it Randy
Awesome. :) But I only play Rockband when I go to a friend’s party and they have it. But, yay. :)
rock band 2…..OMG!!
actually I was going to by rock band one tomorrow. so thanks for posting this. nowI know that a better one is just around the corner. i’ll just by the disc for rock band and use my brothers instruments. I can wait until september and buy this one instead.
This is not a pity comment. Thanks for your hard work and dedication Randy.
Being a Wii owner, I’ll stick with Guitar Hero: World Tour.
I too was excited about the prospect of the keyboard- but I have to agree that I just can’t see how it would work. Because all the rockin’est songs with the keys in them are… really complicated and fast keyboarding.
Oh- and I might actually buy this (and the, um, 360 too, lol) if they put some more effing classic punk on it or-heck, how about some chick punk like Bikini Kill or L7? Ohhh Fleatwood Mac/Stevie Knicks…. *dies and goes to music heaven*
Also Zeppilin. I know they’ll never give the rights for it but, the first thing I thought of when I played Rock Band was “WE HAVE TO PLAY ‘STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN’!!!! And I was SOOOO disappointed when I didn’t see it on the list!)
I hope the Guitar Hero 3 Les Paul works with RB2. I just don’t want to buy another instrument, unless it’s a BIG improvement.
Same goes for GH: World Tour. I will buy both, but just the games.
