Nintendo DSi Coming in April
Wednesday, February 18th, 2009
Nintendo has announced the U.S. release of the newest iteration of their popular handheld platform. The Nintendo DSi will be hitting store shelves in America on April 5th, 2009.
The DSi is the third version of Nintendo’s dual-screened handheld following the original design and the wildly popular DS Lite. The new hardware will remove the GBA slot in the front of the handheld in order to facilitate the system’s slightly slimmer design. However, the DSi will add two cameras (one on the outside and one facing the player), more internal memory, support for SD cards, and the ability to play music (in AAC format). The platform will also feature the DSiWare application, a downloadable game store similar to WiiWare.
The DSi will retail for $169.99, a fairly significant increase over the DS Lite’s $129.99 price tag. The new system will only be available in black and blue when it first launches.

This could be cool if they have cheap downloads of hits like Super Mario World and Zelda
As huge of a Nintendo fan as I am, I probably won’t be buying this. At least not for a while. I need my GBA port, so I’ll stick with my DS lite for a while.
If I didn’t already have a DS Lite, I might consider buying one of these, but I’m perfectly fine with what I’ve got now. I don’t really use the GBA port, so I probably wouldn’t miss it, but I don’t really care that much about all the new features. However, if they offer a ton of cool downloadable titles, I might be tempted to get one in the future.
That’s funny because I have like 4:1 GBA to DS games. I guess I like old school.
Well, I never owned a GBA, so I didn’t have any leftover games lying around. There are several GBA games that I am sure I would like, I just haven’t bought any. I’ve got so many other things to play that I never got around to getting any of them.
No, seriously. I bought GBA games (used of course) specifically for the DS. Yea, there were all old NES/SNES games. I think the only game I bought for the DS was Brain Age… and that was for Sudoku (OMG…I *am* a casual gamer…when did that happen??) :)
I can’t see myself getting this unless they put GBA games up for download. At least half the time I spend on my DS is playing GBA games. (FF1+2, Golden Sun, ect, ect) Though the new capabilities are nice I can’t see the DSi becoming a large portable multimedia system. That sort of stuff comes from rebuilding from the ground up, not slight modifications. Unless the Marketplace implimented has great content I can’t see many people trading in there current iterations for this new one.
No GBA port? Lame! I don’t think I’ll be buying this!
