New Xbox Experience Embargo is Gone
Wednesday, October 29th, 2008
The New Xbox Experience will be loading onto the consoles of 360 users everywhere come November 19th. I’ve been following it pretty closely, soaking all the information I could get. However, some things have managed to remain a mystery to me up until this point. Now that the review embargo has passed for the NXE, sites are beginning to put up reviews and hands-on reports left and right. None are better than the 9 (!) videos that Joystiq recently put up, in my opinion. Check them out after the break:

Y The Last Man Vol. 5In this final Deluxe Edition hardcover collecting Y #49-60, Yorick and Agent 355 prepare for their ultimate quest to reunite the last man with his lost love, while the person, people or thing behind the disaster that wiped out half of humanity is revealed. Then, Yorick Brown's long journey through an Earth populated only by women comes to its dramatic, unexpected conclusion.
Nice! I’ve been trying to get a good picture of what the NXE would be like, but this provides a lot more detail than we’ve been able to get so far. Thank you Joystiq!
Overall, I think it is an improvement, and a lot more “flashy” visually. I do like that the new guide is a mini version of the current blade system. I like the new quick launch option. The Marketplace looks to be organized in a much better fashion, and the party system looks pretty nice.
I am also really looking forward to the Netflix capabilities. I’ve tried watching movies on my computer, and it works pretty well…until my browser crashes after ten minutes or so. I think it’s something to do with the 64-bit version of XP….anyway, I fully expect the XBox to be stable enough that I could actually watch a full movie! :D
The only thing I don’t like is that the interface seems to suffer from some lag in a few places. Perhaps that will be fixed in future updates. It’s not that big of a deal, but it could get to be a bit annoying.
Joystiq also says that there will be a few hundred titles on the Netflix service that will stream in HD, provided your internet connection can handle it. You can’t even do that on the Netflix website yet.
The “Lag” I’ve seem tends to be loading imades or lists of DLC and the like. Since most of that stuff is still kept server side, it only makes since that it will still be a bit slow. But still, as long as I don’t have to wait 3 minutes for my games list to load, I’ll be happy.
The HD streaming is going to be slick. I don’t think they would do this, unless they had plans for getting a good number of programs. I think the 360/Netflix partnership is going to push a lot more titles to the service, which is only a good thing. Heroes, btw, is one of those HD titles.
The thing I want to know is will Heroes episodes go up soon after they air and in HD? That would be cool. I’m sure they will at least have the first couple seasons of Heroes up when this launches. It might be a good place for me to re-watch last season since I haven’t bought the DVDs yet.
They already have season 3 of Heroes up. I don’t know about HD. But the series in general is up…
