Live Blogging E3 2009
Saturday, May 30th, 2009
I’m going to be trying something a little bit different this week. For the three major E3 conferences, I will be live blogging on the site. LiveBlogging is basically a glorified way of chatting with users as the event is covered. If you are interested in the conference at all, you will want to be around starting Monday. The schedule and more details after the break.
Take the best things about a chat room, and combine them with the best things about Blogging, and you have Live Blogging. Users will be able to log in, ask questions, discuss the latest news, etc. However, the primary purpose is actually to get the news out there. So whether or not people show up to discuss everything, the show will go on. The blog will get posted, and people will be able to read through the history very easily.
However, like most things, this is the most fun if people are there to participate. So I hope to see some video game fans for the following dates and times:
Microsoft: June 1st – Live Blogging begins at 1pm EST (Set a Reminder)
Sony: June 2nd – Live Blogging begins at 1:30pm EST (Set a Reminder)
Nintendo: June 2nd – Live Blogging begins at 4:30pm EST (Set a Reminder)
Hopefully, everyone that cares will be there to share their opinions as they roll in. Watching the show and talking about it at the same time. What could be better? Live blogging begins 30 mins before each conference.

i’ll try to make it
This could be fun. I was planning on doing some write-ups after the fact, but a live blog could be fun.
No reason we can’t have both. Live blogging is a during the event reaction sort of thing. So the big stuff can be covered after the fact in more detail. :)
I think sony’s and microsofts conference will be equally as awesome this year. Maybe sony taking the edge. I dont hold out any hope for the Nintendo D=
Perhaps I’m just an optimist, but I’m hoping for a big show from Nintendo this year.
Yeah, that’s what most normal people are saying. Then we have the Polygon’s of the world. :P
Though, in case you haven’t seen, the PSP Go has already been leaked, and the PS3 price drop rumors are being squashed. So some of Sony’s thunder goes missing there.
What can I say? I’m just an optimistic guy! :D
On another note, I felt really silly this morning. I looked at the weekly ad for Target this morning and saw that they had Fallout 3 for $20. Since I was going that direction anyway, I headed into Target to pick it up. However, when I got in there, I realized that I had read the ad wrong, and it was the Add-On pack that was $20, not the normal game.
Oh well…
This is interesting:
“Xbox just moved up its briefing start to 10:25(PST) am tomorrow due to a very special last-minute surprise.”

So they had something so important pop up that they had to start their conference early. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before.
Either that, or they are trying to make it seem like they have a last-minute addition.
Well, it’s a last minute addition, whether or not they had it planned. Because they had to alert everyone to arrive early. The rumor I heard though is that it’s something to do with music. So I’m betting on someone performing for a Rock Band/* Hero game or something kind of like Duffy performed for Lips last year. But hopefully better.
I heard somewhere else it may be a game announcement. Someone said the early word was it was a late minute addition of Peter Jackson’s Halo. That seems like an addition they would have been aware of though, even though it’s not technically first party anymore.
Maybe it will be both. They managed to get Video Games Live in last minute to play the Halo theme song for the Peter Jackson Halo. :)
To be fair, five extra minutes probably wouldn’t make a difference. Most of the people that would be at the conference would already be in the room, if not seated. In fact, they’d probably be excited that things got started early instead of late.
Maybe this means they;’ll get started on time. ;)
I’m in. Are you going to inbed a Video feed on the blog page or are we going to have to run our own video feeds and flip between the two?
I believe the live blog software I’m using operates in a pop-out window, so you should just have to put it in front of your video feed of choice. Not sure which feed I’ll recommend, since some of them are delayed by a good amount. G4 will also have them on TV commercial free again this year.
Gametrailers says they will have the conferences in HD. I’m not sure if that means the stream will be HD or if the recorded version they put up later will be HD. I’ve watched the conferences at several different sites before, so as long as the video plays well, it doesn’t really matter to me. If there’s anything I can’t see very well, it always gets posted later on anyway.
It’s probably after the fact. That’s what they usually do. I know IGN will have it in HD, but only for subscribers. They have a great feed service during E3, as they have a ton of interviews and demos in their “room”. But the lag still annoys me knowing that I’m like 20 seconds behind. I usually follow a lot of forums and blogs for impressions, so that doesn’t work for me.
I just checked. Their promo says they will have free HD streams of all the conferences, even the EA and Ubisoft ones that are happening later today. I’ll probably try it out, but if it doesn’t stream very well, I’ll try somewhere else.
So hopefully I’ll be able to pop into the live blog this afternoon. I’ll just have to see how things go at work today.
Apparently the Xbox Fluid was mentioned today as announced by CNN. The Fluid is the motion camera. So, I guess that’s pretty for sure.
Soooooo…..is the live blog happening here? Or do we have to follow a link somewhere?
I guess I’ll find out in about 45 minutes….
So when are we live?
I don’t know about you, but I’m “live” all the time. ;)
As for the blog….I have no idea.
I was but then I got Left 4 Dead and ended up liking un-live.
SW:The Old Republic is looking to be everything Galaxies wasn’t. The con coverage wasn’t great but the cinematic trailer was what I’ve wanted from SW since KOTOR.
I think the hardest thing in niche marketing is finding the right formula for keywords and niche videos.
