Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Sacrifice Announced for DS
Friday, July 11th, 2008Of all the news I expected to hear surrounding E3, this wasn’t even near the list. There will be a new Buffy the Vampire Slayer videogame gracing dual screens everywhere "soon". I’ll definitely be looking forward to this. But I do have to say, even for a DS game, these graphics look like garbage. Hopefully that improves before release.

VAMPIRES BEWARE: BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER HIGH-KICKING HER WAY ONTO DS FOR THE FIRST TIME
Milton Keynes, July 11th – 505 Games today announced a deal with Twentieth Century Fox Licensing & Merchandising to unleash an official new game based on the world-famous Buffy the Vampire Slayer franchise, exclusively for the Nintendo DS.
Currently under development by Romanian studio Beast, Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Sacrifice combines third-person and first-person gameplay to create an experience like nothing else on Nintendo DS. The stakes are high for players as they take on the role of Buffy to seal the re-opened Hellmouth in an original story penned by Rob Deshotel, a writer from the TV series.
This action-packed 3D survival horror game sees Buffy using a range of special weapons, powerful spells and martial arts to take out vicious vampires and demons. In addition to these enemies, players also come across recognisable characters from the show, including Spike, Angel, the Master, the First Evil, Caleb and, of course, the Scooby Gang.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for 505 Games and we’re working extremely closely with Fox to ensure this is the definitive Buffy the Vampire Slayer experience,” said Rowan Tafler, Global Brand Manager, 505 Games. “Buffy’s return to videogames is great for long-time fans of the franchise and we hope the huge market reach of the Nintendo DS will help to create new fans too.”
Elie Dekel, Executive Vice President Twentieth Century Fox Licensing & Merchandising added, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a franchise that continues to excite people around the world. Although there are no new productions of the series there is an enduring legacy that lives on through syndication, comic books and video games like these. We’re sure DS players are going to love this version.”
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Sacrifice will be available exclusively throughout Europe on Nintendo DS November 2008.

I want a new XBox game damn it! While the second one allowed you to play as multiple characters, the first one is still superior in graphics, gameplay, story, and soundtrack.
Never played either of them. And I think only one of them is BC, if I remember correctly.
I remember playing the original Buffy game and the one they made for the GameBoy Advanced. Neither really impressed me much, but we’ll see how this new one fares. With a Buffy game I think I’d like more of a story/adventure game feel than just some hack ‘em up.
I love the Buffy games on the xBox, if I had a DS I would probably pick this up
Does anybody else think it would be awesome if this game came with a “Mr. Pointy” DS stylus?
@Polygon: I bet Mr. Pointy does :)
Seriously though, that would almost make it worth it alone. :)
How can you go to Sunnydale High and the Bronze if the game takes place after Season 7? I’m pretty aware of all of the writers of buffy and ive never heard of Rob Deshotel. Must be a first season writer. I enjoyed Buffy: Choas Bleeds on the Ps2 but I never played the first game because i didnt have an xbox. I personally think this looks lkie crap, but i could be wrong.
Rob Des Hotel. Story Editor for 32 episodes of the series: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0220754/filmoseries#tt0118276
I guess that’s where the “Unique Story” comes in at….finding a way to have all the sets after season 7. My question is….why? Do they really think that we will see a pixelated Sunnydale high and thing, “Oh cool! I remember this!”
And no, you aren’t wrong. It does look like crap. But I can deal with crap graphics, if the game is fun.
Since I have no emotional attachment to Buffy, all I see is a crappy looking screenshot. I’ve heard that Hellboy game is mighty tasty though
@TotallyNotNick: That’s what I see when I see most DS games. Still, there is a lot of fun to be had with the system. So here’s hoping for a fun outing this time too.
Well I still want to check it out because I love every thing about Buffy, I just have two problems:
1. I don’t think the nintendo DS is worth buying for one game. ( I see no reason or game to buy one)
2. The article here says its available exclusively in Europe. I live in America…
I am seriously considering buying a DS. The console has a lot of really intresting and inovative games. Elite Beat Agents, Puzzle Quest, That RPG that place in the hispter districts in Japan, and many others whose names I cant remember at the moment
I love this. I have a Nintendo DS lite. So I’ll be excited when this comes out.
I want a 360 Buffy game dammit. I don’t have a DS and even if I did can’t see well enough to play it :(
I loved the first Buffy game (beat it) and Chaos Bleeds was funny but the controls, camera and story wasn’t as good. I did like playing the other characters though. Beat it too. :)
But maybe if this game does well, there will be a Buffy game for a console (hopefully not the Wii).
will they be bringing this new buffy game out on ps2 ? i loved the last one
