TrailerGEEK is back after a year long absence with the first of two posts. Check out six trailers to catch-up on after the break…
Kick-Ass – Theatrical Trailer
Based on the comic series by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr, Kick-Ass is a superhero film like no other. Dave Lizewski, an average teenager and comic-book fanboy, decides to take his obsession as inspiration to become a real-life superhero. Only problem? He doesn’t have any powers. But when your name is Kick-Ass, who needs them?
Clash of the Titans – Theatrical Trailer
Born of a god but raised as a man, Perseus (Worthington) is helpless to save his family from Hades (Fiennes), vengeful god of the underworld. With nothing left to lose, Perseus volunteers to lead a dangerous mission to defeat Hades before he can seize power from Zeus (Neeson) and unleash hell on Earth. Leading a daring band of warriors, Perseus sets off on a perilous journey deep into forbidden worlds. Battling unholy demons and fearsome beasts, he will only survive if he can accept his power as a god, defy his fate and create his own destiny.
Defendor – Theatrical Trailer
Bruised and beaten, arm in a sling, neck in a brace, Arthur Poppington (Woody Harrelson) sits in front of court-appointed psychologist Ellen Park (Sandra Oh). After making her swear to secrecy, Poppington begins to tell the story of his secret life as “Defendor” – yes, that’s an “OR” – spelling is not one of his super powers. By day, Poppington directs traffic around road construction sites, but at night he dons a pair of black tights, a black jersey with a crude “D” duct-taped to his chest, and trawls the streets as his alter ago. As Defendor, Poppington engages in what he believes is a super heroic fight against crime in an attempt to fulfill his unrealized dream of capturing his archrival, Captain Industry – a gun trafficking crime lord who Poppington mistakenly believes is responsible for the death of his mother. When coming to the aid of Katerina Debrofkowitz (Kat Dennings), an underage prostitute, Defendor tangles with her pimp, Chuck Dooney (Elias Koteas) – a crooked undercover cop. By doing so, Defendor bumbles his way into a criminal underworld, and the stage is set for a showdown with Captain Industry.
The Losers – Theatrical Trailer
An explosive tale of double cross and revenge, The Losers centers upon the members of an elite U.S. Special Forces unit sent into the Bolivian jungle on a search and destroy mission. The team–Clay, Jensen, Roque, Pooch and Cougar–find themselves the target of a lethal betrayal instigated from inside by a powerful enemy known only as Max. Presumed dead, the group makes plans to even the score when they’re joined by the mysterious Aisha, a beautiful operative with her own agenda. Working together, they must remain deep undercover while tracking the heavily-guarded Max, a ruthless man bent on embroiling the world in a new high-tech global war.
A Nightmare on Elm Street – Theatrical Trailer
Freddy Krueger returns in A Nightmare on Elm Street, a contemporary re-imagining of the horror classic. A group of suburban teenagers share one common bond: they are all being stalked by Freddy Krueger, a horribly disfigured killer who hunts them in their dreams. As long as they stay awake, they can protect one another…but when they sleep, there is no escape.
The Last Airbender – Theatrical Trailer
Air, Water, Earth, Fire. Four nations tied by destiny when the Fire Nation launches a brutal war against the others. A century has passed with no hope in sight to change the path of this destruction. Caught between combat and courage, Aang discovers he is the lone Avatar with the power to manipulate all four elements. Aang teams with Katara, a Waterbender, and her brother Sokka, to restore balance to their war-torn world. Based on the hugely successful Nickelodeon animated TV series, the live-action feature film The Last Airbender is the opening chapter in Aang’s struggle to survive.

Book of the Month
Y The Last Man Vol. 5In this final Deluxe Edition hardcover collecting Y #49-60, Yorick and Agent 355 prepare for their ultimate quest to reunite the last man with his lost love, while the person, people or thing behind the disaster that wiped out half of humanity is revealed. Then, Yorick Brown's long journey through an Earth populated only by women comes to its dramatic, unexpected conclusion.
My thoughts:
Kick-Ass is my most anticipated film of the year right now. Luckily, it comes out next month so I won’t be waiting very long :)
Clash of the Titans looks as though it has good special effects, but I don’t think that’s enough to get me in the theater to see it… if ever.
Defendor looks like the heartwarming version of Kick-Ass. Probably won’t see it in theaters but I’ll rent the DVD.
The Losers looks like a ton of fun. I think this and the A-Team are going to have a similar feel (with A-Team being way more over the top), but I have a feeling that this will be the superior of the two that will be ignored in favor of the film that’s based on the property that everyone is familiar with.
The A Nightmare on Elm Street remake looks gorgeous, but will the script be good? Probably not… however, it’ll be worth seeing for Jackie Earle Haley’s performance alone.
The Last Airbender… still looks really promising. I really really REALLY want this to be great. Every trailer is making me more and more optimistic so here’s hoping.
Hrm… it’s so odd seeing Clash of the Titans with CG. Still feels wrong to me. The plot (what little they give) seems like a mash up with Jason and the Argonauts. And there’s not enough Pegasus! He’s the star of the show!
As a child I didn’t know the name of Clash of the Titans I just called it the flying horse movie. I always got so excited whenever the old Tri-Star picture logo came on because I thought it was that movie…
My thoughts (in stollen format, thanks Scott”
I love kickass and the more i see about the movie, the more I cant wait, its just after scott pilgrim on my “can’t wait to see” list
COTT….. I dont know much about the original so I dont know how faithful it will be but looks like a fun night out, more than anything it makes me wonder when they will make a god of war movie, this looks 1/2 way there….. oh but at least this kraikan (cant spellcheck, at work) looks better than the pirates one.
I might like defendor more if it wasnt comming out the same time as kickass……it looks like a wait for dvd movie to me.
I havent read the losers and I weas never intrested, but yeah this and the a-team will probly make a good back to back night sometime in the future.
As a massive 80’s slasher flick fan I was worried about all these remakes, h2….well the least said the better, but the friday the 13th remake was great and this looks to be just the same, im glad to see slashers taken seriously again.
I had my worries about the last airbender, because I really enjoyed the show and I didnt like most of what I was hearing……after this I do have to say that it LOOKS perfect, my worries about the directing are gone, it looks to be pretty faithful to the show.. I am alittle worried that the kid playing Aang hasnt acted before…but he looked convincing enough, and I dont hate zuko’s casting quite as much. However my biggest probem is a pretty massive one for me….it doesnt look funny, it looks epic enough and it looks cool enough, but I loved the humour in the show and I feel that alot of that will probly be missing, I can see afew slapstick moments or something cheesey, but yeah, I think it’ll suffer alittle for that.
Kick-Ass looks awesome. I can’t wait to see it.
A serious take on Clash of the Titans just feels wrong to me. Maybe it’s because I love the cheesiness of the original or maybe seeing CGI where Harryhausen stop motion awesomeness used to be is a bit too jarring. I still think the new version could be fun, but it’s going to feel completely different than the original. That’s probably a good thing though.
Defendor looks hilarious. I loved the bit with the angry wasps.
I’m calling it right now based solely on the trailers. The Losers is going to be more fun and a much better movie than the A-Team movie will be. Maybe I’m just biased because The Losers has Jeffrey Dean Morgan in it.
The Friday the 13th movie looks to be a direct copy from the trailers. I’m not sure whether that’s good or bad, but I still want to see it.
I really hope that The Last Airbender ends up being awesome. Heck, I’d even settle for plain good at this point. The trailer looks awesome though.
Okay, I’m going to predict which trailers will show up in the second post, and by doing so I may influence the future! ;)
Let’s see, Iron Man 2 is a must, as is Tron Legacy. I also predict that the new Robin Hood trailer from a couple days ago will be included. Repo Men is a possibility and so is Prince of Persia. Depending on how far back Scott is going to go, Toy Story 3 might show up as well.
Well, guessing 4 out of 6 correctly isn’t bad.
I’m excited for all of these (though Defendor looks like the weakest to me). My only real worry is about The Last Airbender but my hopes are high that the movement for the bending will look good. I’d even be ok if he wants to give himself a role as long as it’s the guy with the cabbage cart. :) (My cabbages!)
damn, forgot to write I meant M. Night Shyamalan for that last part.
That might actually work well, but I highly doubt that the cabbage guy will be in the movie. Regardless, I hope M Night doesn’t appear anywhere in front of the camera at all.
I’ve seen Kick Ass, it is brilliant.
