Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles Gets Full Season
Sunday, October 19th, 2008
I confess, I’m in love with the Sarah Connor Chronicles. I’ve never been a big Terminator fan. However, being a big Summer Glau fan led me to latch onto this series and not let go. Terminator: SCC was given half of a season to start the year with, however the picture has been looking bleak lately due to low ratings. It has a tough time period currently, going up against the Genre similar Chuck and the ratings giant Dancing with the Stars….
However, apparently someone at Fox has seen fit to smile on the fans of the show, giving it a full season pickup for the remainder of the year. We can only hope that executives will have enough foresight to give the show a try in a different slot. If it continues to go against Chuck, I unfortunately see one or both suffering for it in the end.
However, the article which can be foundĀ over at IGN, also offers up some possible bad news. Apparently, the original schedule release showed 24 returning to be paired with Dollhouse on Monday nights. Terminator being suddenly renewed may indicate that Dollhouse has been delayed to the point that it won’t be ready to go when it is supposed to. This is a bit of a good news bad news scenario. Hopefully, we will get to see both Summer and Joss shine on Fox this year. Is that too much to ask?

oh thank you fox!!
Right now TSCC is one of my favorite shows, and for weeks everyone has been saying it was on its way out. Its not realistic for a show that premiered during the strike when nobody was watching tv is expected to compete with chuck, gossip girl, the big bang theory, how I met your mother and dancing with the stars in the same time slot. It really should be moved to Wednesday at 9 where they currently have nothing playing on fox, at least long enough for it to get a following.
I agree with everything you said. Definitely one of my favorite shows currently. I especially loved the episode that started telling the story behind Cameron. Top notch, IMO.
Yeah the backstory of Cameron episode was awesome! I actually semi-liked the show during the first season and I didn’t actually finish the season until I saw that the second season premiered… But the second season has been amazing so far! thank god its not getting cancelled!
Oh yay. As a long time Terminator fan this makes me happy.
Between this and T4’s arrival in the summer I am one happy camper. :P
Do I feel a T:SCC podcast coming…or at least maybe a T:SCC Podcast special. I’d really like to hear your thoughts on the show. It has slowly bacame my favourite show on tv (yes more than Heroes) The Cameron origin story was brilliant. Favourite scene was Cameron calling her “mum” and us getting to see that she’s not even born yet. Shirley Manson’s character improves and excites more and more every episode.
Ellision better be going somewhere this season and so far it looks like he is what with the team up with Catherine Weaver. Brian Austin Green has proven so many haters wrong when he came onto the show. He plays Derek Resse fantasticly and I loved his character centered episode, I can’t remember the name of the episode but it was the one when he took John to the Army training camp.
I hope this show gets many more seasons to come as it totally deserves it. The cast are amazing! Is it just me or does anyone else think that the show should have been called “The Connor Chronicles” that way it can focus on Sarah AND John. My main reason for this is becasue a lot of fans are interested in seeing John progress into the leader he is to become. I love seeing this it just seems weird that it is called “The Sarah Connor Chronicles” and this season seems to focus a lot on John.
One last thing who else thinks that it was John that killed Sarkisain in S2 episode 1. It has been pointed at Sarah that did it at the end of the episode but just look at Sarah’s face when she looked at John. Also John looked like he was trying to free himself when Sarah was being attacked. There are a few more hints but so far I have written a T:SCC essay so I leave it here
Great news about the full season! :)
The only problem I have with the show currently, is that it’s weird watching it in tandem with Fringe. That Weaver chick in charge of the large corporation always reminds me so much of the lady “in charge” of the large corporation on Fringe. It’s a small problem to have. It’s just a peculiar feeling of similarity. :)
This is great news. I was worried.
TSCC has gotten better and better, and is now among my favorites. The new mythology around Cameron’s origin is a interesting twist. Brain Austin Green has really come into his own and can carry an episode. After not being excited about the casting for Sarah Conner, I now can’t imagine anyone else playing her.
The writing still has some gaps in it, and John’s character better get beyond the whiney leader-in-the making stage real soon. Recently it seems they’ve used (today’s) Cameron too much as comic relief and not enough as a full character. And anyone besides me notice that Sarah should NEVER be allowed to drive??!!
My only fear with the Cameron episode is that they go the Data route. I really don’t want another show with a ‘robot who wants to be a real girl’ story.
And wow, BAG on this show- amazing, no? I can’t believe I said that. David Silver you have come so far from your ‘rap career’.
Agree, the robot who wants to be a girl story isn’t my favorite idea. I like the idea of them using existing humans as a template for their personalities. Did this only happen for Cameron? Was it the common practice for all infiltrator models? Is this what causes emotion emulating behavior?
BTW, SCC still is not ranked on IMDB for lack of votes. Says five are needed. Can’t believe less than five have voted for it on IMDB.
@SaberJ Plus, the lady on Fringe has a mechanical arm, so I think she’s a terminator anyway. Not really, but I see what you’re saying.
I have really enjoyed this show since it premiered last winter. I had never seen a Terminator movie, but love Summer Glau. I’ve now seen T1 and T2.
This season has really stepped it up. I love that we don’t know what’s going on with Cameron and I loved the Derek episode with the military school- so made me cry at the end.
Plus, I met Thomas Dekker and Lena Headey in a restaurant at Comic Con and they were really nice, so that’s another reason for me to watch.
The only thing keeping The Sarah Connor Chronicles from being my favorite show this year is the awesomeness of Supernatural. Right now, Supernatural is the best show on TV, with SCC following fairly close behind. Chuck has been really good so far as well. Heroes has been enjoyable, but it has had too many stupid plots holes and stupid characters for me to really love it.
Anyway, back to Terminator….I loved the Cameron-centric episode. It introduced so many cool ideas, and the episode was executed very well. I also loved the premier episode, especially the opening montage with the “Sampson & Delilah” song. Bear McCreary has quickly become my favorite television composer. He does the music for SCC and Battlestar Galactica (among other things like Eureka), and he has done some really cool things with music on both shows.
To me, the only thing holding the show back from being even better is that John Connor’s character still hasn’t progressed past the mopey and pouting stage. One episode he’ll get on my nerves, the next he’s fine. Once they give him a reason to take everything with a lot less of a “Why me?” attitude, I think the show will become even better. Hopefully they have a chance to do that now.
I really like the addition of the love interest girl
Yeah, I forgot to mention how awesome the opening sequence of “Sampson and Deliah” was. Even cooler that it was a (unreleased) cover by Shirley Manson, who is playing Catherine Weaver.
I manged to get a copy of Shirley’s “Samson and Delilah” from a user over at IMDB. They are brining out a T:SCC album so hoefully it will be on there. Did anyone else knwo that there was one other episode left to be aired fro season one but it was never aired because the previous episode (Vicks Chip: Cameron car bombing) left the show on a big cliff hangeer to keep fans entertained and left wanting more. Luckily this worked and we got a second season. Anyway the episode was about Sarah strapping her slef to a bomb and more or less willing to comit suicide over something.
Here is the photo and as far as I know the only thing posted about the episode:

Bear McCreary has a blog on his site, and he posts interesting info on the creative process behind a lot of the music he does. He has done several entries for Battlestar, but SCC has shown up a few times as well, including Samson & Delilah. If you want to know about the evolution of the song, check out his blog entry on the subject:

FYI, early in the post, he mentions that the track WILL be included in the forthcoming SCC soundtrack album. Amazon has it listed as being released mid-November.
