Hrm…….
That’s about all I can come with as well. Not a great clip, IMO. Doesn’t do anything to sell or turn me away from the series.
…It’ll get cancelled.
That guy that’s playing the geeky techie was really…it was like the network was looking for a “Adam Brody,” “Zach Levi” type and this was the best they could do. I’m getting the bad feeling that this could be Whedon’s first miss. Unless you count Alien Resurrection that is. Zing!
The clip itself is pretty meh, but I still love the concept of this show. I do get the feeling that it is going to take a few episodes to really find its feet, though.
Really TNN? Because it felt to me like Whedon really wanted Alan Tudyk and had to settle for this guy. I got a Wash vibe big time.
Altho… I would LOVE to see Adam Brody do something from Whedon. That would be awesome.
I don’t think with any of Whedon’s shows there’s one clip, especially in the first episode, that can really tell you what he’s doing with it. I’m in a wait and see situation with this.
Personally I actually liked the clip, of course I don’t get the same Joss Whedon vibe from this. So that may be why some of you didn’t connect with it, but that’s not totally a bad thing for me.
Oh I’ll watch it. It’s just my expectations are lowered with each new piece of info
Yeah I got the Wash vibe from him too, the clip seemed alittle off, but givin that its out of context its hard to tell if its weird writing or the way the character is.
@Rachel: That’s often true. Especially with Firefly. But then again, it was also on Fox, and got canceled. I’m pretty sure there were better clips from Buffy’s first episode than that, though. Not great, but better at least.
@imrahil: My problem with it, really, was the randomness of the clip. Yeah, it didn’t have the Joss vibe. Or even the “typical Joss actors” vibe. I personally didn’t think it was a bad scene. It was just a bad clip, if the intention was to give us some insight into the show. Personally, the clip had no effect on me at all. It didn’t excite me, it didn’t turn me off from the show. I’m exactly at that, “I’ll give it a shot, but my expectations are low” point that I was at before.
It’s funny that TNN describes the “Zach Levi” type character. Because when I started Chuck, I hated that Zach Levi was “that Adam Brody type character”. It wasn’t until it seemed like the episodes stopped being written for Zach Levi, and started being written for Zach that I really started to like Chuck, and Zach. I think that will probably be the case here too. Joss will write the character for the actor he sees in the role. But once he had him cast, he will start writing to that actor’s strengths instead.
I think the show will be fine, if given time to find itself. Unfortunately, it has a half a season. Which is why I didn’t like that it was a mid-season replacement show.
Nothing new here that wasn’t covered in the earlier promo…a little exposition heavy.
I’ll be watching, though.
I kind of liked the clip, but it’s not a great promo piece.
Interesting clip…I’ll definitely be tuning in for the first episode
I thought the clip was interesting, giving a moral dilemma to the story line.
I’ll certainly be tuning in; it’s Whedon after all.
I hope this is the next Buffy , in that it last 7 seasons .
I hate to have poor Joss lose another show ( firefly)
imdb says the girl who played fred ( amy something ) will be on the show , that will be cool
Watched DollHouse last night – better than I expected. I can see a long story arc developing and the potential for massive character growth. But I could alos see it stalling out. We’ll give it another shot next week. But it certainly wasn’t like Buffy or Firefly where you fell in love by the first episode.
Heard interviews with Joss on NPRs Fresh Air and All Things Considered. Mostly about the anti-feminist controversy the show has created. The ATC interview was a complete attack job on Joss by the female interviewer.
Yeah.. the episode was kind of bleh…
It wasn’t engaging at all. Hopefully it will get a lot better in the next few episodes. I’ll probably watch at least a few more episodes to see if it does get any better.
Maybe Joss Whedon has lost his magic touch. :(
