Could Michelle Ryan Be Doctor Who’s New Companion?
Tuesday, January 20th, 2009
With the announcement of a new Doctor, everyone has been wondering who is going to be traveling across the universe with Matt Smith, well we may have our answer.
Michelle Ryan (Bionic Woman) has been rumored to be the Doctor’s new companion. She has allegedly been in secret talks with the BBC and could be announced as taking the role very soon. Ryan, 24, originally auditioned to replace Billy Piper in the role, but lost out to former companion, Freema Agyeman.
Ryan has worked with Steven Moffat before, starring as Katherine Reimer in the BBC mini series Jekyll. There have been previous rumors of Moffat bringing in actors he has worked with previously into Doctor Who, most notably Patterson Joseph and James Nesbitt, but we all know how those turned out. So this may end up being just another rumor, but an interesting one none the less.
She also starred in NBC’s Bionic Woman, a remake of the 1970s TV favourite, but audiences did not take to it and its run lasted for just eight episodes.

“Ryan, 24, auditioned to replace Billy Piper in the role but lost out to the current assistant, Freema Agyeman.”
Ahhh, I do so love when someone that doesn’t watch the show posts articles on it. I think they missed that whole part where Freema hasn’t been the companion for a year.
Interesting though. I wonder when she will be introduced. Even considering the quality of performance in the last couple episodes, I never was able to like Donna. So for me, just about anything is an improvement.
Oops, that section was from the article and I forgot to edit it. I am a very big Doctor Who fan and did not like Catherine Tate as Donna but would welcome Michelle Ryan to the series. I was probably one of the few people who actually liked Bionic Woman and was sad to see it go.
Yeah, I read the article and saw it, that’s why I mentioned that. That author really sounds clueless about the show. Does anyone know if anyone else reporting this? Or do we have to rely on someone that is oblivious to the existence of Catherine Tate? I guess they don’t have to watch the show to hear the news. But it would sure help their credibility if they sounded like they knew what was going on.
This makes a lot of sense actually. She was in BBC’s Jekyll which was written and produced by Steven Moffat. I liked her a lot on that. Didn’t care for Bionic Woman at all, but I don’t blame Ryan for that. It’ll be nice to hear her sporting her british accent again :)
I kinda dug the Lily Allen rumour, even though it was totally B.S.
Love Michelle Ryan and was so disappointed that her talents were wasted on the dreadful Bionic Woman. Don’t watch a lot of Dr. Who, but might have to give it more of a peek if she’s joining the cast.
Did you watch Merlin? She was pretty good on that too. The show is decent, but has potential.
She was also in Eastenders. I don’t know if people in America will know what that programme is but it’s a soap that has been on BBC since….well before I was born. (19 years old btw) She was pretty good in it she played Zoe Slater, troubled teen who falls pregnant to her partner’s dad to keep him from straying to other woman. Sounds stupid but it was actually a pretty good story line onec it had played out. Look it up on youtube of you are not familiar with her work.
I think they should go with a more unknow actress or actor. Also with Moffat stating that this series will be a lot darker I’d like to see a companion DIE. Actually properally be killed in a fight against the Daleks, Cybermen anyone of the Doctor’s enemies. I’m getting tired of the
Lost their memory
Decided to leave
The Doctor didn’t love them
So amny companions and not one of them has died (excluding Jack and Astrid who don’t really count) Kill off a companion!
I’d like to see what she could bring to the show. So long as it doesn’t involve a lot of running in slow motion in insensible shoes.
Looks like Michelle Ryan is going to be in Doctor Who, but no confirmation about it being a returning role or as a companion. See link –

i dont think she will be but I would like it if it was true
I think she showed in Merlin that she would make a far better Rani than a companion
well what ever happen Drwho will be good I just hate waiting a year for a new season
