Matt Smith To Guest On Sarah Jane Adventures
Monday, April 19th, 2010
The Eleventh Doctor will be appearing in a two-part episode of the Doctor Who spin-off series.
According to the BBC, Matt Smith will be guest starring in a two-part episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures to be written by former Doctor Who showrunner Russell T. Davies. The episodes will also mark the return of actress Katy Manning in her role as Third Doctor companion Jo Grant (1971-1973). The episodes will be part of Sarah Jane’s fourth series to premiere this Fall.
Well, looks like Russell T. Davies gets to write for Matt Smith’s Doctor afterall… should be interesting to say the least. I’ve never watched The Sarah Jane Adventures so I guess I have some catching up to do.

Y The Last Man Vol. 5In this final Deluxe Edition hardcover collecting Y #49-60, Yorick and Agent 355 prepare for their ultimate quest to reunite the last man with his lost love, while the person, people or thing behind the disaster that wiped out half of humanity is revealed. Then, Yorick Brown's long journey through an Earth populated only by women comes to its dramatic, unexpected conclusion.
I’ve never watched the show either. Perhaps this will give me a reason to check it out over the summer.
So Sarah Jane will be the first Tennant companion to meet the new Doctor? Unless you count River. Which I guess River was just as much a companion to the Tenth Doctor as Sarah Jane.
Hmm, true. I guess the really fun bit will be the Eleventh Doctor meeting up with two Third Doctor companions (as well as SJ and Jo meeting each other, which I don’t think has happened before, since SJ was Jo’s replacement).
Presumably, the River Song that meets the Eleventh Doctor will actually be younger than the one that met the Tenth Doctor, since there was the issue with Tennant not actually knowing River even though she’d had many adventures with the Doctor in her past.
Yeah, we’ve debated the age issue of River. My opinion is that she will be younger. But not by much. I think her style in the upcoming episodes in their attempt at making her look a little younger.
My issue is that when she met Tennant, she remarked that she had never seen him that young, by a long shot. If it’s really the past, how much of a difference can two years of the show have really made? He’s still basically the same age, even if you take into consideration that he has probably had some side quests and such off screen.
Interesting. I’ve seen a couple of eps of Sarah Jane- not really my thing. If I were a kid I’d probably love it though.
The episode last season with David Tennant was cute though for nothing except a fun extra few minutes with Tennant.
I’ll probably watch the episode with Matt Smith for the same reason. I bet these kind of guest spots do gangbusters for their ratings. (Though I am unaware how ratings in the UK work since they have no commercial breaks)
SJA is a bit more kid-oriented than DW, it’s true, what with the kid heroes and all. The plots and monsters are usually things that could have worked just as well in a DW episode, though. (SJA sadly seems to have inherited the Family Slitheen as recurring villains.) Plus everything’s a two-parter, so that’s nice. And the Brigadier showed up once. Would have shown up again, with Tennant in the wedding episode, but Nicholas Courtney was recovering from a stroke. Happily, he’s better now.
The annual episode in which the Trickster tries to mess with some aspect of Sarah Jane’s life is usually pretty dramatic and helps to flesh out the character. The wedding episode in which Tennant guest-starred was the latest one of those.
I never seen the show but maybe i’ll start with Matt Smith as the guess being the first one i watch
