Kids WB! Dropped By CW
Thursday, October 4th, 2007Rest in Peace Kids WB! I’ll remember you fondly…

The kid in me just died a little.
Is it just me, or is sugary cereal and Saturday morning cartoons an American kid staple? When did this become not the case anymore? I remember eating 2-3 bowls of cereal every Saturday morning and I’m not remotely unhealthy. Sometimes it amazes me how uptight the country is becoming when it comes to the dumbest things. We can have nudity on television as long as it’s given a mature rating, but if we want a cartoon rabbit selling fruit flavored cereal to our kids, we’ll have to leave the country.
So what does this mean for all of Kids WB!’s programming? 4Kids will mix the established content from Kids WB! with new original content. What shows will make the cut has yet to be decided. According to an article on Newsarama, Warner Bros. Animation is "exploring a number of other avenues to direct this programming, from other networks to direct-to-DVD options".
Regardless, this spells certain death for the endangered Saturday morning cartoon. 4 Kids is slowly becoming a monopoly in network television children’s programming, now being in charge of the only two networks that still aired all animation, and nothing they produce is anything I would consider quality. Children will be forever doomed to watch one watered down and Americanized Japanese animated series after another. Never knowing that there used to be more out there.
I’d hate to be kid today. I remember when I was younger you had 3 or 4 channels to choose from for you Saturday morning television fix, and that wasn’t even bringing cable into the equation. Now, I don’t even know many kids who watch network television at all, and in the age of TiVo, they rarely watch the shows as they air. Hell, if I get up early enough on Saturdays, I still put on cartoons for nothing if not the comfort of the familiar. When I’m a father, whether or not their airing them on television, I plan on getting up early with my kids every Saturday and watching cartoons. It’s just the way it should be. I’m not going to let some suits at the CW take that away.
Long Live Saturday Mornings!

Oh, this is sad news indeed. I’m a big cartoon fan. Even at my age now (32) I still watch cartoons. Since being married and picking up hobbies that take more of my time, I don’t concentrate so much on cartoons as I used to, but there are still shows I make an effort in watching…Legion of Heroes has been one of them. Most Saturday morning cartoons have gotten too kiddish for me, but there are still those wonderful pieces that appeal to older children and adults. I just don’t understand the marketing world. There are so many cartoons and shows that you love and are smart and you think they are doing great and all of a sudden they disappear. What are the majority of us watching? Goodbye wonderful Saturday mornings. I suppose I should make an effort to sleep in now.
i remember how much i used to love animaniacs, pinky and the brain, bugs bunny, and all the rest. once they took them out i stoped watching cartoons saturday moring. yu-gio bores me and makes me want to sleep again just like the rest of the 4kids shows. i hope that one day they put kids wb! back on air. they did put pinky and the brain on but its not the same as my favorite animaniacs show. i remember even my dad sat to watch kids wb with me. he hated 4kids though. i’ll always miss kids wb!
Hi, I am a big fan of Kids WB and I will always miss it. Though recently they restarted the batman series. I was wondering if anyone know what is the official name of the series because I am trying to find it on DVD. I would really appreciate it. Thnx
times have changed, and most kids today get their cartoons elsewhere. To be honest, growing up most of my cartoon diet came from Cartoon Network, but Saturday Mornings did always belong to Kids WB/Fox Kids. I’m a bit younger then you Scott, so I kinda did grow up with Japanese cartoons like Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh!.
As sad as this is, there are plenty of quality toons out right now. The Mighty B! is pretty funny, it has the same style of Ren and Stimpy. Cartoon Network is in the middle of some kind of creative boom right now: Total Drama Island, Chowder, The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, are all really funny cartoons that I’ve just discovered this summer now that school is out.
My point is, no matter what time of day, or day at all, the spirit of “saturday morning cartoons” will always be there.
Wait. This is a really old article…how did I get here….?
I don’t know. How did you? :P
I think I read MZA’s comment. I didn’t realize how old the article was until after I posted my comment.
What were they thinking , taking away Batman??? We love it and record it if for any reason not home. “When will they ever learn” Hope they decide to bring it back!!!!! If not some other network !!!!
I was really heart broken when I found out they were changing the episodes along with the name. Ever since I was in kindergarten, getting up before everyone else I have been making sure I get up at Seven and watching until Twelve. My favorite shows were Static Shock, Batman, Legion of superheroes, and Magi-nation. Why did they have to all go?
I used to love animaniacs, pinky and the brain .. they was so funny … I used to be long hours watching cartoons like animaniacs, pinky and the brain, batman .. etc
this article is so old, isn’t it??

I’m not giving up on weekdays! 4kids may have taken over, but they should still have weekday cartoons. I don’t think it would hurt for some cartoons like yugioh, and batman Mon-Fri!
