BBC’s ‘Merlin’ Trailer
Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008
The trailer for BBC’s Merlin has been released and I’m quite impressed with it. Looks like a combination of Smallville and BBC’s other medieval drama Robin Hood. It’s about a young Merlin who is struggling to learn sorcery in Camelot, where its King has outlawed witchcraft of any kind. The King is played by Anthony Head (Giles of Buffy fame) and his son is of course Arthur, the young man destined to be King.
The best news is that NBC has already picked up the rights to the series for America, and it will air in spring 2009.
Merlin premieres this month on BBC One.

Y The Last Man Vol. 5In this final Deluxe Edition hardcover collecting Y #49-60, Yorick and Agent 355 prepare for their ultimate quest to reunite the last man with his lost love, while the person, people or thing behind the disaster that wiped out half of humanity is revealed. Then, Yorick Brown's long journey through an Earth populated only by women comes to its dramatic, unexpected conclusion.
That promo pic makes him look 8 years old.
Promo looks good. When does it premiere in the UK? I can only find “September” as a start date. It’s Sept. 2nd already.
Has a TOUCH of that Halmi production feel to it, but maybe that’s just because of the cinematography. Or the fact that they produced the same named mini with Sam Neill awhile ago (which was pretty good by Halmi standards) but I’m kinda into it none-the-less.
Dude, I’m such an Arthurian geek I’d see anything like this, but it has a nice twist and that sounds neat. I like the idea of a Young Merlin/Arthur thing. (there’s actually a series of teen books called Young Merlin that are pretty fun and kind of along these lines) And anything is better than that abysmal no-fun Arthur movie from a few years ago. Yes, let’s do the Arthurian legend and take ALL THE FUN AND INTERESTING STUFF OUT OF IT! But we cast Clive Owen, and he’s really hot, huh? huh? (Okay, he is, but that’s beside the point.) And you guys dig Kiera Knightly as a chick fightin’ Guenevere, eh? eh? Ugh, bad flashback to that dredge.
@ Sunshineyness Wow.. I am glad I missed that one.. sounds awful..
I love the Arthurian legends and this looks like it could be good
my problem with the Clive Owen movie was I was hoping for something similar to Bernard Cornwell’s The Warlord Trilogy which is a great ‘real world’ telling of the story and was bitterly disappointed
eh, might be good, nice splatter of brit stars but BBC drama series don’t usually get my jollys up (apart from Doctor Who), Robin Hood drives me insane, this looks kind of like that show… I’ll probably watch the pilot
In the legends Merlin lived his life in reverse. Looking at this ‘Merlin’ in this series, he must be near deaths door!
