Meet the Future of Internet Communication
Thursday, June 4th, 2009
The future is coming, and once again Google sits behind the wheel. At Google’s I/O event last week, they introduced their future technology. And you won’t want to miss this sneak peek at the “what if Email was invented today, rather than 40 years ago” presentation. Bonus points for noticing any/all Firefly references by the Google team.
The presentation is a bit long, and it gets a little techy. But you can get a great picture of some of the ideas it presents. And you will not want to miss the last couple minutes of the presentation for just one great example of the potential it has.

Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane Vol. 2 HCThere's a new girl at Midtown High named Gwen Stacy, and she has her sights set on Peter Parker! What's a lovesick Mary Jane to do? Plus: Mary Jane Watson wasn't always the girl she is today. How did she become the sort of person to push her problems away rather than face them? And how is it that Spider-Man's origin plays a pivotal role? See the birth of the greatest modern super hero like you've never seen it before!
This has been making it’s internet rounds for a while. But we haven’t discussed the potential here. And the results of this project could shake the entire foundation of this website.
This is worth the over an hour of viewing time required, IMO.
That is a freaking cool idea they’ve got there. It looks like something that could be used in so many different ways. I particularly liked the possible integrations between mobile, web, and their client program all going to the same thing and updating no matter where you are looking at it. I also liked the idea of seeing what others are typing as they are doing it, and the spell checker was pretty neat. Also, the language translator thing at the end is also impressive.
This is a cool combination of the things you can do with email, IM, message boards, blogs, etc with a few new ideas thrown into the mix as well. At the very least, this could take all these things that we do in separate places now and put it all in one place.
Very cool.
So, anyone get an invite?
