Weee! New episode to draw to!!!
Loved that episode. FYI Brad Pitt was in a movie that was written by Quentin Tarantino, “True Romance”
Heroes is at its best when its shamelessly ripping of X Men
I think Nick’s right. They should move on to ripping off Harbinger.
This new season is shiite so far.
I actually really like the Fugitives arc so far. Last night’s episode actually had some genuinly fasinating charecter devolpment and storytelling
Yay for a minor reference to The Pretender! I loved that show when it was on. Unfortunately the show doesn’t quite hold up as well as I thought it would, but I still enjoyed all the DVDs when I got them. The Pretender was the first place I saw Jeffrey Donovan, and now he kicks butt on Burn Notice.
I forgot Donovan was on The Pretender. I liked that show, but it fell apart towards the end. The guy who played Sydney was on an episode of Numbers recently.
Yeah, the last season of The Pretender was rather weak, and the two made-for-tv movies weren’t that great either. However, I still think the first couple season of The Pretender are pretty great. After that, they started to run out of new conspiracies and ways to stretch the show’s concept out.
OMG. I loved Pretender and Profiler. I loved the crossovers they’d have too. The year that Saturday night was Freaks and Geeks at 8, Pretender at 9, and Profiler at 10 was the BEST NBC NIGHT EVER.
The dude who played Jarrod was also in the Dark Shadows revival.
Also, Sydney was the blind guy in Carnivale- one of the best shows ever.
I agree with you guys on what makes a geek. It’s not what you love it’s how much you love it. IMO the difference between a geek and a dork is that a dork doesn’t only love things different than the norm but also feels that if you don’t love the exact same things as them at the exact same level as them then they are superior to you. Whoever left this comment was a dork wishing they were cool enough to be a geek.
There are differant kind of geeks. Tech geeks, star treck geeks, computer geeks, gaming geeks, anime geeks, ect. All geeky in their own right, the problem is that nowdays geek culture is becomming much more mainstream and ironically cooler, and with that comes the geek snobs who believe that they are the “uber geeks” and like Dr.Acula said they seem to think that if you dont have the same intrests as them, you arnt a geek.
You guys do belong here, and you deserve that name.
I completely agree. A geek is just someone who cares extremely passionately about a subject- any subject. I’ve known sports geeks, music geeks, movie geeks, art geeks, comic geeks, science geeks, book geeks, etc in my life- the thing they all had in common was their passion for whatever it was they loved not the specifics. Complete, unbridled, unadulterated love for what they liked. What makes a reg a reg is that they just don’t really LOVE things that way.
And as someone who most definitely doesn’t fit into the ‘girl geek’ mold (I hate anime, manga, and Twilight) I understand where you’re coming from Scott. The first time I walked into a comic store when I was 11 (trying to find issues of Bone) and was basically shunned and laughed at. The exact quote the dude said to me was “we don’t sell little girl books here.’ The second attempt at a comic store (at 19) I was told I would ‘really, really like their manga selection.’ Held my ground this time and asked the guy where the trades of Sandman were and also where the latest Captain America issue was.
Scott and Ben- you are total geeks- just because you don’t geek out about what he geeks out about is no reason to change your name. *rolls eyes* He’s a total 3rd tier geek- you two are awesome first tier-ers.
I still get told they dont sell little girls books……..and im a guy :S
*snort*
Great episode guys. Quick question. When are you guys planning on recording another commentary? Those are really fun to listen to.
Next Commentary: The Pagemaster. Just sayin’…
Balto, man its in the works…
As if, Ben you told me it was gonna be “Muppet Treasure Island”
My copy needs to arrive in the mail…
And there are definitely sports geeks. I mean fantasy football (or fairy tale football as I like to say) is just as geeky in many ways as let’s say Dungeons and Dragons.
I hate that attitude of geek snobbery. So what if I don’t like Star Trek? I love Star Wars, so there!
I hate both the trecking and the wars that take place within the stars, but id still concider myself rather geeky.
As a Trekkie (never a trekker) I think this whole thing is silly. I love Star Wars and Trek equally and would never expect anyone else to. Silliness.
Hey look at the bright side, the due gave you 3 stars, so it’s not like be blew all over your average review score.
Fact of the matter is, if you’re going to put creative content out there you’re going to get a mix of good and bad reviews.
That was never the issue… I don’t care about bad reviews that actually review the show. But that’s not what this was. This was a review of Ben and I as geeks. It really had little to nothing to do with the show.
I can take criticism just fine, but this felt more like a personal attack on who we are as people and not the quality of our show at all.
I’ve been doing this for three years now, I’m well aware that the show will get both good and bad reviews. That’s not what this was about at all.
well you’re creative content (for this show) is often your opinions and you talking about yourselves as individuals (at least at the beginning of the show). If you put out a work of literature or a film then it’d make more sense for it to be dissected as a property. But when your content is often your opinion, then those are often the type of reviews that one will get. And at least it was lengthy, because let us be honest, a review that says “Sucks!” one star…well that’s not very helpful.
But spending a review criticizing us for not liking Star Trek and telling everyone that we’re not geeks however much we claim to be isn’t helpful either.
We can’t suddenly change our taste in entertainment, but we can tweak the way the show is run. But that’s not what the review was.
This guy wasn’t insulting Scott and Ben’s tastes, they were questioning their merits as hosts of a show called Two Geeks a Mic and a Podcast.
its like if I were watching SportsCenter and saying that the putting money on the Bears isnt really a sports fan.of course he’s a sports fan! He’s made a career being a sports fan.
To be honest, i don’t think the dude that wrote that review is really a geek; anyone who’s really in the community chould know that simply “not talking about Star Trek” doesnt mean you’re not a geek.
People challenge credentials all the time. I don’t blame the guy for doing that. But the thing is, this is all done for free. So it annoys me when someone gets up and arms about something they don’t even have to be listening to.
But I always love to hear people compare levels of geekiness. It makes us all seem really cool
I challenge your credentials on explaining how credentials can be challenged.
Levels of geekiness. Didn’t Geek by Night explain this?
Isn’t there a ranking system on the message board too?
As far as I am concerned the only thing that is prerequisite for geekdom is geeking out about something in the arts or entertainment field. With every group there are people who have a snobbery about it.
Someone who says you can’t be a geek and talk about Gossip girl or that you have to like Star Trek is one of the bad kind of geeks, and the reason I no longer use online forums.
Whats cool about the Two geeks and GeekIn podcasts are that they are not strictly sci-fi and comic related, rather they cover many entertainment subjects that are fitted to the Geekshow community. If they only talked about Star Trek, comics and genre movies I would have got bored two years ago.
I say take it or leave it….. its free!
Also saying one of the hosts is arrogant and adding that they are not geeks because they talk about The OC is ironic enough that I actually got a chuckle out of it. hello pot this is the kettle calling.
You should challenge the guy to a trivia off as per the charter of The Eltingville Comic Book, Science Fiction, Horror, Fantasy and Role-Playing Club. The winner gets the head of Boba Fett.
Here’s something that is silly. “It’s free so don’t leave bad reviews” is ridiculous. I’ve heard that from many podcast. they’re happy to get their good reviews, when a bad one comes along they all cry fowl going “It’s free! We don’t charge you so wha wha wha.” The only time the argument of “It’s free” works out is if a show doesn’t ask for reviews or mention them. When a show does they can’t turn around and go “It’s free” when a bad one comes along.
Note: I realize neither Ben or Scott made the “It’s free” remark.
Leave bad reviews all you want, I could care less. Lord knows I’ve seen more than my fair share on the BuffCast. That’s not what the issue is here. The issue is that the person is calling into question the credibility of someone of whom is doing this as a hobby. One step further than TNN’s Sportscenter reference. They are getting paid a lot of money to be on the show, it’s possible they aren’t a real sports fan, but a broadcast major that had the chance for a great paying job.
In this case, we are doing it for free. Which, besides having geek written all over it right there, generally means that we take an extreme level of interest in our subject matter.
Again, you can make whatever complaint you want. But that one seems especially silly, given the context.
I love bad reviews. They make me know I’m doing something right.
Hey Scott, I’m sorry I hurt everyone’s feelings. Here’s something I hope makes you feel better.
What?
Well now that you’re here jurassicalien, I have a question for you. Do you even know what a geek is?
Didn’t you read me review? Clearly I do!
Ha! I’m kidding, but in all honesty yes, yes I do.
Well then I honestly have no idea how you can say that two people who have a multiple podcasts about TV, movies and comics aren’t geeks.
Oh well… your opinion is your opinion.
Yes my opinion is my opinion…for now.
But if you disagree that’s good for and you enjoy it then good on ya man. I’m not going to hate on people for loving the show or disagreeing with me. I just know how I feel, and if anyone takes a 3 star review THAT personally…well then you are going to have ALOT of trials in life, but good on ya, that just means your life will be more interesting, even book worthy perhaps..
@ Yes my opinion is my opinion…for now.
What does that mean!?!?! Is that a threat? A promise of things to come!? I don’t know what to do.
JurasicAlien is challenging my reign as “edgiest commenter” and I don’t like it.
Sorry RJ, but SpikeBad has you beat as edgiest commenter, I always thought of you as most pretentious commenter though! I still love what you say.
But, jurassicalien makes very little sense with his statement, to me it sounds like he believes that other people will soon follow him in his war against TGMP, but I like to build things up in my head a little.
Woa, woa, woa Jack! I’m way more pretentious than Rusty! I’ll have you know I’m wearing a t shirt with a Jackson Pollack painting on it and I’m like, totally lisenting to Animal Collective. And I was SO into them before they got big, so suck it.
Honestly I dont think iv ever ready any comments id of concidered really edgy from either of them.
But Nicks right, he is WAY more pretentious…. no contest (jk Nick haha)
SpikeBad is all talk. I keep hearing about his reputation but so far its all talk.
My credentials: My comments have recieved point by point on air rebuttals. Twice!
Plus, no less than 4 people blamed me for the first ever Geek By Night cast crisis. If anyone else thinks thinks they can top that I’d like to hear it.
Nick can have most pretentious. I once got ketchup stains on my shirt and told everyone it was a comment on consumerism. But whatever.
And if Prettz really doesn’t find me at all edgy then I certaintly wont be able to link to a comment of his where he takes offense to a remark of mine…
certaintly not…

@ What does that mean!?!?! Is that a threat? A promise of things to come!? I don’t know what to do.
It can mean so many things, or it can mean I’m just pulling B.S. outta my bottom. Either way, who says our opinion is our own opinion and not the opinion of our parents and society around us jamming their own nails into our minds? And how did those opinions become our opinions in the first place? And where did the first opinion come from? Chicken? Egg? Embryonic fluid? Flying Spaghetti Monster?
“who says our opinion is our own opinion”
I did. It’s right up there.
Ah yes, but who are you? And by that measure, who am I?
He’s KingQuat, a living legend and you? You’re a douche, is that explanation enough?
Only a douche? But what happened to the bag? And who did I clean?
Who is this he you’re referring to as a living legend?
Oh God…now he’s trying to sound intellectual now…
@ Either way, who says our opinion is our own opinion and not the opinion of our parents and society around us jamming their own nails into our minds?
Goddamn he’s edgy!!! And now he’s doing pretentious!
I’m outa here.
Fine. No one wants to answer my question. So I’ll just reiterate what Jack said by saying this:
You guys can have the title of being edgiest or most pretentious because I am a living legend.
So if Kingquat is a legend, Nick is pretentious and RJ is edgey, what am I?
Give yerself your own label. We all did.
Jack, you’re British
As long as we’re giving ourself titles, can I be the lazy one?
Hey Scott, I’m sorry I hurt everyone’s feelings. Here’s something I hope makes you feel better.
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a293/Jurassicalien/violin123.jpg
Ohhh tiny violin
That’s so funny that not only did I forget to laugh, but all alternate dimensions of me forgot to laugh as well.
but what about your 3rd dimension? Did that laugh? Or the 4th dimension? (”4th Dimension”? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shrek_4-D_) Or what about Demolition man? Did they laugh? What am I saying, of course Demolition man laughed.
Im slightly more discusted that you mentioned demolition man over the geek comments.
Demolition man rules!
I said that since I wasnt gay I wasnt sure but people could take offence, not that I thought “oh shit thats out there dude”. Being rude and being edgy arn’t the same.
Haha you seem more intrested in trying to get noteriaty than actually making a point, I was justing saying I didnt think that you where all that “edgy”, not that I agreed or dissagreed with anything you said.
That last comment was ment for Rusty.
Anywho you just lost any credibility I might of had for you haha.
You go re-watch Demolition Man sir, and then Cliffhanger, and then you will see the brilliance and ultra-cheese that was the 90’s Sylvester Stallone film.
I’ll give you that they are great drinking movies.
Well that’s what they’re for. With film not only are their different genres, there are different rankings. You have, A genuinely good film, so bad it’s good, or just plain bad. Stallone’s career has all of these. And God bless em for it.
A geek is someone who eats the heads of chickens, maybe you should try doing that a bit more on the show.
I agree with what someone wrote about different kinds of geeks. There are lots of interests that are considered geeky, and not everyone likes everything.
It surprised me a bit that Scott and Ben aren’t too much into space type shows like trek, but as a long time fan, this is really old news to me.
Anyway, I think I’ve listened to enough of them (and lately relistened, to help create the 100th episode clipshow), to say that I see Ben as more of a fantasy oriented geek, while Scott is more superhero inclined. Which is fine by me.
I also appreciate that they (usually) admit to not knowing much about subjects that aren’t their main interest, and sometimes put in effort like when Scott went back to watch the first trek movies.
While on the subject, I really hope JJ doesn’t put the last nail in star trek’s coffin, because I love trek, and I’m still hoping for a new show if the movie succeeds.
I really want to see if we can this sucker to 100 comments and I dont’ know why. Come on guys, make it happen!
Okey dokey, im with you.
You have my (S)Word.
So, if Scott and Ben got in a knock-down, drag-out fight, who do you think would win?
I would say Ben off the top of my head.
Having not seen them in person, or know if they have any kind of fighting backgrounds, Scott seems pretty skinney (and has mentioned this fact on the show) so i’d go for Ben with a size advantage.
But what if Scott’s really nimble and wears Ben down with his speed and agility?
Well let’s not forget, Ben knows the way of the Moose, so he’s got the edge there.
Its an ancient order, full of mystery… I trained with the monks in the mountains for 2.5 years, before I was made their leader and vowed to always use my powers for good and to defeat Scott. Should he ever turn against me.
SEE?
Team Moosefist FTW!!!
I’m pretty sure Scott knows some animal-themed fighting style as well. You can just hear it in his voice…
Maybe the way of Water Rat, but that’s nothing against a moose
What about Mongoose Style?
It makes sence that they would have such similar sounding names….. damn they are crafty little fighters
I could Randy throwing emoticons around like ninja throwing stars

“Take This!”
“And that!”
“And some of these!”
That’s the most frightening fighting style of all…
and, curiously, the most graceful…
