I’m a Fountain apologist. I dug the flick.
Im a Requiem apologist myself….. im not really sure why though.
For anyone wondering about the ‘Arrested Development’ movie. this was from the Hellboy 2 dvd release last month.

I love, love, love Arrested Devolpment and would be first in line to see the film. full speed ahead I say.
I also love Arrested and would love to see a movie ocme out.
I liked Pi okay. Requiem was a good movie, well made, well acted, but it was depressing and is tough to watch, so I understand, especially for those who don’t like drug movies, wouldn’t like it that much. Never saw The Fountain and don’t really plan to do so. Can’t wait for The Wrestler. The trailer was amazing and I hope Mickey Rourke gets an Oscar nod.
Funny you should mention Mad Men. I just finished Season 1 and loved it (no spoilers:) ). How long did it take you to figure out that was Conner from Angel (Vincent Kartheiser) as Pete? Man he looks so different on that show. Jon Hamm (Don) is amazing on that show, so is the actress who plays Peggy (she was Zoe, the President’s daughter on West Wing). Christina Hendricks is the redhead (from Firefly). I even like Rosemarie Dewitt (Don’s beatnick mistress). Can’t wait to see Season 2.
I Netflix’d Mad Men, wish now I’d ordered the first season when it was on sale. The blu ray was 16.99$ on Black Friday on Amazon. I also can’t use my blu ray player until Xmas; it’s officially a present from my parents. But I already have Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Batman Begins (reg version not the gift set), Terminator 1 and 2, and Firefly. My brother is getting me Dark Knight for Xmas. and I’ll order Sarah Marshall and Serenity (comes out Dec. 30) later.
good times, great show guys
@Mr. Pointy – OMG!!!! You totally just blew my mind! That IS Connor! MAN! I really hate Peter! Haha! I also didn’t realize that Peggy was Zoe from West Wing… so you successfully blew my mind twice in a row. Congrats :P
The only actors I immediately recognized were Christina Hendricks from Firefly as Joan and Julie McNiven from Supernatural as Hildy.
Man… Mad Men is full of all kinds of people I like. What a phenomenal show!
Yeah I noticed that, I like the look of him older and I think we plays a great jerk.
@Mr pointy – If you get the firefly boxset, let us know how it is, I seen it the other day but the gritty aspect of the show makes me wonder if it would be worth buying on blueray.
Thank goodness people are watching Mad Men!
The scene where Vincent Kartheiser is sitting on the couch in his office in tears drinking scotch is what got me to watch the show. I randomly flicked the show one day last year during that episode and couldn’t turn the channel. The show grew a lot this year also. I never see anyone talk about it and nobody I know here watches it I was begining to think I was the only person under 50 watching Mad Men.
I’ve been trying for a year to explain the draw of the show to people but nobody will give it a chance. when I was rooting for it at the Emmys everyone was giving me the stink eye. Everyone acts like its pretentious because of all of the critical acclaim its been getting.
for anyone who missed it there is Jon Hamm hosted SNL a few weeks back and there is are a few good skits including one skit of Mad Men with Elisabeth Moss (Peggy) and John Slattery (Roger Sterling) playing their characters.
I got it purely because the name and the amount of times id heard it said. I had no idea what it was about haha.
God… how much I love Mad Men. It’s, like, the only “grown-up” show I like. My mother watches it too for christsakes. But it is just so damn complex! And, according to my mother at least, spot on 1960’s pre-assasination America. And I love how you can feel that the change is coming on that show, but people are still clinging to the old fashioned ways. Which I love because all that cultural growth between 1960 and 1970 (which, think about it- was A LOT) did not happen over night, feminism, civil rights did not just magically pop up. Betty Friedan didn’t invent the bored housewife- she was miserable before hand. All that stuff was boiling under the surface since the war ended.
Gah, I could, literally, talk for hours about Mad Men. Everyone please watch season 2 so I don’t accidentally spoil it.
And I looove Pete! Well, I hate him- but that’s why I love him. He’s just this sort of odditiy generation-wise. He’s too old to be a baby boomer, too young to be a part of the Greatest Generation, and he doesn’t know how to be. He’s not admitted into the older club because he didn’t serve in the war, and barred from the young guys for being too old and not ‘with it’ (or ‘on the bus’ as they say)
I looove Don’s beatnick mistress. I love how his wife is the model of perfection, but all his affairs are with these wild, different (brunette) women.
That show is what I point to old people when they start getting all nostalgic about the ‘good old days.’ Notice how many times you see a black person on that show? Elevator operator, waiter, maid, janiter. It’s subtle, but the message is there.
Oh God though, how I wish I could have a bar at my job…
I was going to ask what character Hildy played in Supernatural but I see on IMDB that she was in season 4 and I’m only halfway through season 3 now.
I really like January Jones on the show too. she plays a great ’60’s housewife, but has depth too, and yes is very Grace Kelly-esque.
How f’d up was it that her therapist talked to her husband, not a good era for psychology.
Yeah, the sexism, racism, anti-semitism (which did surprise me, especially being in NYC) is apparent and important to remember and give a little thanks that we live in the time we live. Imagine if you told Roger that in 2008, a black man would be elected President, hehe, talk about mind blowing.
Ah, the good old days, um, I mean BAD TIMES.
Nice to read all the Mad Men love.
No date listed for season 2 release on dvd, how long ago did it air? Any chance it would still air on AMC as a marathon or anything? Anywhere to watch it online (not torrenting)?
I’ll give a little review of Firefly on Blu Ray if you’d like. I just had to have it and lucky enough, it was on sale on Amazon for 45$. It retailed (Best Buy) for 70$ and was originally 58$ on Amazon. So I had to have it.
Serenity comes out Dec 30 on Blu Ray btw. :)
Forgot to add.
Next up for TV on DVD viewing, finally Wonderfalls.
@Mr. Pointy
The DVD won’t e released until next july or august. the finale aired like a month back and the seasons play sept to the end of oct so they released the dvd right before the next season.
Mr. Pointy- Do you get free on demand? I know I watched the whole first season on AMC’s free on demand when I was watching a friend’s dog. They’ll probably keep them available until season 3, me suspects. And I’m sure AMC re-runs the daylights out of it at night.
Haha.I feel dumb for saying African American. When you were saying that he isn’t African American. African English. ORRR Perhaps
African British! Anyway.
I’m glad your liking Mad Men because I was sort of interested in watching the series.
I need to start watching Mad Men, all I hear is how good it is, and having Connor on there just makes me want to watch it even more.
Wow, I’m embarassed to admit that Planet of the Apes is what incites me to comment for the first time after listening to all the geekshow podcasts for who knows who long.
We spent many a Sunday afternoon watching all of the Apes movies one after another with my family. It was usually every third Sunday after the Star Wars marathon and before the Star Trek marathon. I had heard about yet another reboot of the franchise and was unhappy, until you guys announced the tentative title of Ceasar. That excites me since Ceasar is the first intelligent ape that leads all the others to overthrow the humans. You guys need to brush up on your Apes mythology.
BTW the entire series of movies IS a loop where the last film leads to the beginning of the first movie.
First of all, Welcome Cinn
Second of all… we’re both very well aware of who Ceasar is and what role he plays in PotA mythology. Especially Ben. I don’t understand what made you think we didn’t…
