Y The Last Man Vol. 5In this final Deluxe Edition hardcover collecting Y #49-60, Yorick and Agent 355 prepare for their ultimate quest to reunite the last man with his lost love, while the person, people or thing behind the disaster that wiped out half of humanity is revealed. Then, Yorick Brown's long journey through an Earth populated only by women comes to its dramatic, unexpected conclusion.

Although a bit tough to get through with that damned ghost :), I really enjoyed the episode and the Superman talk.
I just received Watchman and now I guess I need to order the first volume of Preacher and check that out. Of course I need to read Y the Last Man and finish (I have all the hardcovers) Runaways. I’ve been terrible when it comes to my comic reading.
Michael Crichton’s an interesting guy, and is actually an M.D. (went to Harvard medical school).
I’d heard that the trailer for Fanboys was attatched to Zack and Miri but it wasn’t shown here in front of it. I hope it’s getting a wide release.
Michael Gambon (the new Dumbledore) was in Layer Cake, pretty good movie. I loved Richard Harris but agree that Gambon is probably a better Dumbledore for the later books.
Can’t wait until the Kevin Smith special, and hope that ghost is cleansed. Get Jennifer Love Hewitt on the phone. :)
@Pointy
I think the white noise is Michael Keaton finally getting his revenge for all of the bad things we’ve said about his Batman movies :)
I have to agree on Search for Spock. It is a much better movie than it gets credit for.
Hmmm…it looks like I’m going to do a running commentary as I listen to the show.
Sphere is my favorite Michael Crichton novel, and I couldn’t believe what they did to it in the movie. There is no way that the book could be adapted into a typical Hollywood movie, but they certainly tried. It was almost like they picked out all the cool stuff from the book and said, “Let’s not use any of that.’
They also did their best to ruin Congo, although that movie didn’t turn out quite as bad as Sphere did. I really like the old Andromeda Strain movie from 1971. Jurassic Park is a great movie, but there is so much cool stuff from the novel that never made it into the movie (Dr. Grant and the kids being stalked by a juvenile T-Rex being one of those plot lines).
If you guys want to gripe about your loyal audience asking for more of what you do very well, so be it.
@ The Doctor
But how is he going to get revenge when you start bad mouthing White Noise?
Well crap! I just typed up a long list of movie suggestions for you guys to do commentaries for, and it disappeared as soon as I hit the submit button. I’ll try re-typing it in a bit….
Apparently the site doesn’t like me today, so I’m going to try and split these up….
Clash of the Titans
Army of Darkness
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Princess Bride
Batman the Movie (Adam West)
Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure
Wayne’s World
The Muppet Movie
A Muppet Christmas Carol
Almost Famous
American Beauty
Cast Away
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Garden State
Love Actually
The Natural
Braveheart
Gladiator
Casino Royale
Die Hard
The Fugitive
Mask of Zorro
Mission Impossible
The Rock
I give up. I had some more suggestions, including some more “geeky” movies, but WordPress seems to hate me.
I’m far from a Star Trek fan (just don’t get the appeal) but I also preferred Search for Spock over the 1st two.
The only Michael Chriton book I actually managed to get all the way through was Timeline because it had time travel in it (I’m seriously obsessed with time travel stories) but I didn’t like it. I felt like it spent too much time describing the psuedo-science. But like I said on the other thread, Westworld is an awesome movie.
As for Fanboys, dude… I remember buying the Newsweek Star Wars special issue before Episode 1 came out and hearing about Fanboys in there. They interviewed the director and he talked about how he was just starting shooting it. Honest to God that was the first time I heard about it. I even remember thinking about what a cool movie that was a few years ago and whatever happened to it when I stumbled onto it on IMDB and saw the whole controversy and couldn’t believe how long it took him to make.
And I’ll throw my vote in for either…
Evil Dead or Back to the Future.
Balto! Do a commentary for Balto!
Firstly, I gotta say that Stanley Kubric is one of the greatest directors ever and Dr Strangelove is probably the 2nd best film ever made (after ESOTSM).
Commentary wise, go oddball movies
Pink Flamingos!!!
Animal House!!
Space Jam!
but seriously, the commentaries sound cool, just as long as they don’t get to boring and involved.
@Jack – Correction. You *FEEL* that Kubric is one of the greatest directors ever. Please don’t treat opinion as fact. That’s one of my biggest pet peeves. I think Kubrick is boring, pretentious, and highly overrated. But that’s my opinion.
I *FEEL* that you should do a Balto commentary.
@ theDoctor
Sorry bro, I know how annoying that gets, but I’m just a big Kubrick supporter, but I guess it’s just my oppinion.
I “feel” that Kubrick is a great directer.
But Dr. Strangelove is overrated.
Love 2001, Clockwork, Full Metal Jacket, and The Shining though.
“What is your major malfunction numbnuts!” :p
I’m fairly sure that the recent experiments conducted at the Large Hadron Collider definitively proved that, with a margin of error of five angstroms, Kubrick is, in fact, one of the greatest directors ever. That being said, the specific findings with regards to “Barry Lyndon” are still inconclusive. It depends on whether or not they’re able to find the Higgs Boson.
Eyes Wide Shut took me a few viewings before I finally got what he was trying to do, but even still that’s probs the only Kubrik I don’t like.
Gosh darnett- that man could light a scene. 2001’s sfx still hold to being gorgy purely because of the way he lit it. I even own the coffee table photo book of all his still shots. He was a great photographer.
But I can understand why others may not like him and respect the opinion of others.
A little late, but I just heard your opinion about Dumbledore.
I liked Gambon just fine as an actor in Layer Cake, but his interpretation of Dumbledore’s character is completely wrong – he is constantly YELLING!!! Dumbledore has a quiet power about him, nothing ever makes him lose his temper, so if something eventually does, it’s a sight to behold. And fear. That’s why I would completely buy Richard Harris as someone who can kick ass, and why Gambon is my biggest problem with the whole series.
And about Star Trek – whenever you guys talk about it, I get the feeling that you barely know it. Did you watch any of the tvshows?
I haven’t watched the original series…
And the other shows? TNG, DS9, Voyager?
Other than watching a few when I was a kid, I’ve only recently seen TOS episodes. I haven’t seen any episodes of TNG, DS9, or STV since their original airing. I’ve only seen one episode of STE.
I’m rewatching the Star Trek movies now, because it’s been so long since seeing the TOS films its like watching them for the first time, and other than First Contact, I haven’t seen any of the TNG flicks since they were in theaters (and I haven’t seen Nemesis at all).
If you get the feeling that we barely know Star Trek its because we really don’t. Speaking for myself at least, I’m a very moderate Trek fan. I would never consider myself a Trekie of any sort. My knowledge of the universe is sparse to say the least. I only know very basic things. Why does this concern you so much?
I wouldn’t say it concerns me, It’s just a little strange to think that big fans of the geeky genre never really watched star trek, other than the movies. I mean, they’re ok movies, but the TV shows are the real heart of the franchise. And I’m not that big of a trekkie – I’m only now watching Voyager for the first time ever – but TNG and DS9 were two of my favorite geeky childhood shows.
BTW, Kathryn Janeway is kind of annoying. I’m a little disappointed with Voyager, but I’m only in season 4, which is when it took a change of direction in both cast and plot, so I’ll keep my hopes up.
