Okay, i know this was not discussed, but i have some issues. Not tge mental kind, this is not tge place for that, since somebody took all of tge real yous and replaced you with some impostors(as convincing as you are).
But i am getting SO sick and tired of contradictory people, as far as this Star Wars deal goes. “They cannot follow the novels” “book continuity does not exist” “OMG Jacen and Jaina”. Please nobody take offense, this is not personal, but, GET YOUR HEADS OUT OF YOUR ARSES! If you deny all book continuity, you deny Han and Leia have twins and also Mara Jade and Ben Skywalker. You people cannot pick and choose what you like. If you say tge books do not exist, NOTHING in them exists. Including characters!!!!! I really wish text had more inflection. I am damn near red in the face from anger and screaming. I have been entertaining this for months, now, but enough is enough. Sure, i am a Star Wars fanboy and probably have forgotten more than most of you remember combined. So this is my little geek rage, here. Call me a trekkie.
And while we’re at it, how the f@#$ing GOD can you possibly be excited for Darth f@#$ing Maul to still be alive! That B%&*@rd was cut in f@#$ing half! He is dead! The ball was dropped, you FAILED. By tgat same account, every stupid piece of shoe shoiuld petition for Daryh Vader to be back in Episode 7. I am getting myself into such a frenzy i cannoy even spell right anymore.
And FURTHERMORE, AAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!
As usual, I agree with Blue. I loved Darth Maul, but if we want more of him they are going to have to do another prequel because he is DEAD! George Lucas screwed up and killed one of the most awesome characters in the franchise. It happened, he is dead. Nuff said!
Exactly, Funnyman. Especially the way they brought Darth Mau back. “oh, he is not dead, lightsabers cauterize wounds”, so he could have a robotic lower body. B.S. That is such a horrible plot. But this season of Clone Wars, I expect rap like that. Yeah, they brought him back in novels by making them before Episode 1. Done and done. They just simply did not think things through when they decided to do the prequels. They thought they could bring in a new, cool villain every movie. Which they DID do, especially with Grievous. But they simply did not need to.
I did enjoy Grievus as well as Count Dooku. The battle between Yoda and Dooku was one of my favorite. Maybe with the new Disney model they will do a Darth Maul prequel with Ray Park. That would be awesome.
Wow…just, wow.
Could we get Blue help, a pigment shift that extreme could cause some permanent damage.
In principle, yes I agree with you Blue, either you are for or against the expanded universe, all inclusive. I for one, would love to see Wraith Squadron movies. Kind of Star Wars meets Mission: Impossible. If that means the rest of the expanded universe comes along for the ride so be it.
In practical terms though, the actual creators behind the new films could flat out say that the expanded universe is not canon and then proceed to pick and choose elements from the expanded universe that they have a use for, disregarding whatever plots or characters they find undesirable.
As for the Darth Maul issue….I wouldn’t touch that with a double bladed lightsaber.
…and furthermore, well said Blue.
Yeah, I caught myself turning purple from all the red mixed with my blue. But make-up helps that.
I als loved all the X-Wing books. Stackpole then Allston did wonderful jobs with the characters. And I was SO happy to find out they just brought out a new novel a couple months ago, though I have not gotten to pick it up yet.
But in terms of movies, see, if they say the expanded universe does not exist just so they can make Lucas’ screenplays for the next 3 movies, then they, sadly, cannot pick and choose just what they like. Because Lucas already had these written out, supposedly. I am generally all for continuity differences. But those are generally comics(and/or books) made into movies, not the other way around. The problem with Star Wars is that for nearly 35 years they had the movies followed by all kinds of media which Lucasfilm had all stated is the the same continuity. If Star Wars was always comics or novels that were suddenly being adapted to movie, that is cool if they change it all up because it is the start of a completely new media.
Like I said, though, this is all fanboy ranting on my part. Just sometimes you let things fester under your skin for a while and it builds up so much pressure that it explodes.
Okay, yes if they follow whatever Lucas’ wrote for sequel scripts they will probably have to throw out the expanded universe, but scripts go through multiple rewrites and I have to believe that whatever Lucas conceptualized, the new writers will have some leeway in making the best movie regardless of what Lucas wrote. My point really, was that there are gaps or areas that Lucas might not have addressed. Especially if the sequels focused on Luke, they could recast of course, but that would be foolish in my opinion, so they would have to shift focus. Maybe Lucas had Luke training a child of his own. Maybe the new writer just uses a preconceived child of Leia’s instead. Maybe they need a new villain and Grand Admiral Thrawn, or General Zinj or Isard fit the bill. I’m just saying it would be possible to utilize concepts or characters from the expanded universe without using all of the back story and plots from those storylines.
Darth Maul is dead, wouldn’t mind seeing a force sensitive or maybe bounty hunter descendant of Maul seeking revenge against the Jedi order in a future movie.
Haven’t watched the clone wars cartoon, though I’m aware of the resurrection. Probably pretty cool for the kid viewers.
Rant away Blue, rant away.
Silver Linings Playbook – Just to fill you guys in, since its fairly obvious that you didn’t do much research on this one…
Yes, there is romance, yes, there is comedy. If it was just a romantic comedy there’s no way it would be up for all of these Oscars.
At its core, Silver Linings Playbook is about two people struggling with mental and behavioral problems that have caused their lives to fall apart and what they are willing to do to start over, rebuild and find that silver lining. Then throw in Philadelphia football, gambling, a dance competition and all of the people in their lives also trying to support and help them with their difficult journey.
Its a disservice to dismiss this movie out of hand. It is totally worth a look if you have the opportunity.
No, you’re right and I did totally say I’ve heard nothing but good things about it, but it does sorta have, from the outside that Jerry Maguire feel to it. Unlike Blue and Jeff I’m a big Jennifer Laurence fan so I will be seeing this eventually.
See, I think that the previews I saw of Silver Lining did no do it justice. Having you describe it as something more than just a romcom makes me kinda intrigued. But really, I blame whoever edited the previews and such, as they do not bill it as anything more than a romcom.
And I never said I did not like Jennifer Lawrence. I am not going to see movies just because she is in them, like I would some other actors. But I loved her in X-Men and I think she is alright. Or are you just saying that because I will not watch Hunger Games? Because, seriously, Battle Royale.
Never got a Jerry Maguire vibe from it, but I never saw the trailer either, though I did hear that it did misdirected. Heard it discussed on various podcasts and with the pre-oscar nomination buzz it made my to see list. Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper are both great in it. Nice turn by Christ Tucker as well with a little scene stealing.
Gonna have to hold off on my Oscar predictions for a couple more weeks, There’s a few more nominees I’d like to see before I choose.
I am without doubt most looking forward to Man of Steel. It looks totally epic in every way!
Man of Steel for sure, but I’m starting to get worried that this movie is going to be a loooong retelling of the origin again. Why Superman decides to don the suit, why he makes the choice to be Earth’s protector, how his father influenced him to make noble choices, etc.
I’m actually starting to get worried that the movie is going to take 40 min. to build up to the point that he finally puts on the costume. That would be a bummer.
Nice episode again guys. Great to hear Thomas declare his love for just about everyone, from Anne Hathaway to Jennifer Lawrence to Les Miserables. My word, if invited to a Hollywood party, he’d be making a beeline for the jacuzzi and taking every young starlet with him.
And hurrah for the return of Geeky Trivia. I only scored five, so very impressed with a score of 10. Nice questions Mr knightskye.
For the record….Blue laughed for five minutes when I read this part about me to him. Apparently, he agrees with you.
PS. I’m so happy that Darth Maul is alive again. I also hope that the new Star Wars movies have Jacen and Jaina in them, and that they finally recognise that the books are not in the recognised continuity. And that Greedo shoots first.
Actually, that’s a complete lie. I don’t really give a damn one way or the other. But it would be nice to see if I can Blue an aneurysm from the other side of the world…
Whoa, whoa whoa!!! Are you trying to get us all killed?!?! You may write it, but I have to deal with Blue afterwards…..hahaha (Still funny though.)
I also scored a 10 on geek trivia.
I would like to add that I have great legs and can give an awesome pole dance. That’s got to be equal to at least 6 extra points on the Geeky Trivia scale, so in reality I effectively ended up beating Don.
Re. Man of Steel I think its a fair point on the origin story. I am expecting a Batman Begins vibe so a focus on how he becomes Superman. For me that is not necessarily a bad thing if its done in an epic way. I am slightly biased because I never really get fed up with Superman’s origin because he’s my favourite superhero. Whether it spends a lot of time on the origin or not I still think it’ll be a great movie (well it better be!).
