I’m only partially following smallville, so I love hearing your comments on the series.
Welcome back!
its good to be back!
I stopped listening when they critized Flash’s character in “Run”.
Smallville is a pre Superman show, in this timeline the heroes are not fully fledged yet, the only ones that’re established are Green Arrow and Martian Manhunter later on in Season 6.
You guys are just die hards that bitch about this show when it breaks any form of continuity that came before.
Word of advice. GET OVER IT.
Wow. What a mature response Nick. I think Smallville die hards have that particular one in a file that they can pull out at any time: “Smallville has its own continuity! GET OVER IT!!”. Heh. Doesn’t mean its good.
Smallville does a lot of things right (Green Arrow for example, or the AMAZING Decent just recently), this was just one of the cases where I personally feel that the creators may have stumbled a bit. I like my heroes to be heroes. I understand that this “before he was a hero”. But Smallville should at least be SOMEWHAT based on the DCU. They had FOUR Flash origins they could have chosen from, but instead they decided to create their own. I don’t support that.
But, for the record, I LOVE Kyle Gallner playing Bart. I’m completely blaming the writers. I mean come on, “Let’s make the fast guy a pickpocket!”? The only thing more obvious they could have done was to make him a track star.
Also, Ben didn’t have a problem with Smallville’s depiction of Bart Allen. Yet, you lump his opinion into my own.
This podcast is a REVIEW of Smallville, and while I really like the show, I’m not going to spend my time doing a podcast where I kiss its ass. Sometimes it can be really bad. Sometimes it can be mediocre. But all those times just make the times where it’s AMAZING seem even better!
I think I can enjoy the show more because I’m not really a comic book guy and am not that familiar with a lot of the mythos of Superman, but I understand why there’d be criticisms of Smallville from those who are familiar.
I liked the pick pocket angle because I thought it was just a good way of introducing the character as kind of a solo character. I knew nothing of the Flash origin so that aspect didn’t bother me. Pick pocketing isn’t too terrible a crime, and it seemed that kind of portrayed it as a way of survival for Bart (maybe that’s just how I saw it). But I like the whole redemption aspect, that he wasn’t the best guy in the world, but later is really important when it comes to joining Green Arrow in Justice.
But him being a pick pocket isn’t the most creative idea. :)
I assume Clark is a good student and therefore could easily be recruited by Princeton. A weird choice of schools (why not Ohio State or something?), but the Ivy League does play football and does recruit the best athletes they can given the academic constraints they have.
I knew a guy in high school that was recruited to play basketball for Yale.
So favorite, least favorite episodes? I can’t remember if you do this or not and you didn’t in the podcast (although I guess we could gather by the ratings you gave them).
Favorite: Run
Least Fav: Facade
Apologies for the back to back posts but editing seems to still be a no go.
I didn’t mean “I think I can enjoy the show more” I don’t want to assume that. I just “wonder” if those who don’t know a lot about the Superman Mythos can enjoy the show more — more of a question that a statement.
:)
What kind of name is Nick Blaze. And yes Scott Descent was extremely amazing
We didn’t do favorite and least favorite. In our new format we will be doing that in Part 3 of each season. More episodes to choose from that way :)
I find it interesting how Al Gough and Miles Millar had in putting their spin or take on a DC character.
When people hold on to the previous incarnations so tightly, they can’t see anything new or different about things in a character’s background that hasn’t been tried yet in any other forms of media.
I’m sorry.
Great episode guys. Hopefully we wont have to wait to long for the next one. :)
Nick – I find it interesting what Gough and Millar do as well, but I’m just not always crazy about it. I consider the Smallville Universe the DC version of Marvel’s Ultimate Universe, but I’m not always on board with the changes (especially just for change’s sake). Making The Flash a criminal fundamentally changes the character in a way that I didn’t think was appropriate. But again, that’s just me. And it’s totally cool that you disagree, but telling me to “Get Over It” really wasn’t cool at all. I didn’t even really go on about… It’s not like I was whining or anything. I just mentioned that I thought it was kind of lame, and then talked about the other Flashes for a bit. But in any event, I understand wanting to stick up for a show that you love, so apology accepted. :)
Damien – Glad you liked the episode, and like I said on the show, I have every intention of getting MG back on a regular schedule this time. Hopefully, it actually happens this time. :)
it was a nice surprise to find out that I was all caught up with Smallville for this. I have no idea what season I’m on :) I totally thought the story with Lana was bizarre; it was a perfect oportunity to write the character out and they blew it. Anyways nice episode guys, now I can’t wait for the next True Believers.
Glad everything cool.
I just have to say that I find Spell to be a terrible episode, it’s my 2nd worst fo the series so far (though I haven’t seen every episode). Also the worst is the Amy Adams episode… just poor.
Spell used to be one of my least favorite episodes. But watching it again, I realized that the episode itself is actually well-written and well-constructed. It’s just that the storyline doesn’t make any sense and makes it seem worse than it actually is. The storyline of Lana being possessed by/related to a witch is just ridiculous (even by Smallville standards). So while I agree that the storyline is the worst in Smallville’s run, I can’t in good conscious blame this particular episode for it.
Glad you guys are back. I know a lot of people say season 4 is a horrible season, but I actually like it. I don’t like the Lana storyline, that’s just awful, but there are actually some really good episodes.
Anyway, I was so excited to have another Meteor Geek episode, thanks guys.
I actually stopped watching smallville in season for because of the whole witch thing. After seeing ‘zod’ I picked it up again in season six and went back to watch it from the start again to go along with the meteor geek episodes. I have to agree that its a show that has a lot of plot problems, but honestly I think that there is always something thats good. while some episodes are cheesy there are usually still some good scenes and lines to make them worth the watch. The Lana storyline from season 4 was really bad, but now that story actually ties in (very loosely) with whats happening this season so I just grin and bear.
thanks for the new episode, I was watching along with the podcast last year. but I guess this gives me a reason to watch them again.
heh on second thought I’ll just listen along until you guys get to season 5.
Makes sense you’d wait till the 3rd part to reveal the favorites and least. doh :)
Yeah, the show has it’s share of lapses, but without those you guys wouldn’t have as much ammo ripping it apart. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure you’d get by. But this way, we All get to share in the disappointment.
Hey, your number one fan here. Still enjoying the old eps, thanks for your hard work.
@driv-el – Then you’ll be happy to know that we’re finally recording the next episode on Monday :)
