Randy, was that book your talking about actually a movie called Equilibrium? Haven’t seen it but it sounds similar.
Isn’t that the Matrix-like movie? If so, I’ve seen that, but that’s not it. It was definitely a book I read. But I have no idea what it was called.
Equilibrium is a smaller budget movie set in a Big Brother/1984 style dystopia universe where emotions have been outlawed or something. Anyway, it stars Christian Bale and has some pretty cool action scenes. Lots of people think it may have had a hand in getting Bale the role of Batman. The costume and set design does kind of look like the Matrix a bit, but the type of story isn’t really Matrix like.
It’s similar enough to bring about the comparisons, though. Matrix was very dystopian as well, just in an extremely different way. I did like Equilibrium’s gun play quite a bit. It was very well done.
Yeah, I totally get the Matrix comparisons. I bet they made the movie similar enough on purpose to get people interested in it.
The unique gunplay is definitely the draw of the movie. It’s what got me to watch it in the first place when it came out. Several aspects of the action have been copied and redone in movies since, but at the time it was pretty unique. The opening scene where Christian Bale has the shootout in the pitch black room is probably my favorite, although the one where he is protecting a puppy is also awesome, especially the backflip off the motorcycle.
Out of all the movies Harry Potter the only one I know for sure I will be .
PS You guys forgot about Red on the topics list
Very excited about Social Network, Sorkin + Fincher? Yes please.
And I loved Let the Right One In, and am a bit nervous about the remake but it seems to be in good hands, especially love that Chloe Moretz is the lead girl.
And of course I’m pumped about Harry Potter.
