Scott Pilgrim Vol. 1-6From writer/artist Bryan Lee O'Malley comes the story of Scott Pilgrim, the 23 year old slacker who's precious little life is turned upside down when he meets the girl of his dreams (literally), Ramona Flowers, and discovers that in order to be with her, he must fight and destroy her seven evil ex boyfriends. I’m only 18 minutes into the episode and have to say I’m psyched about the new show. Your perspective will be fun to hear. I’ll have to comment again after I finish the episode.
I’m happy to say that you won’t be waiting long for some juicy content. We had a lot of discussion right from the first episode. Should be up later tonight, I believe.
Woo hoo! New stuff to listen to!
I’ve been watching a lot of things on Netflix lately as well. Now that I can watch the streaming stuff on my TV, I’ve been watching a lot more of it. I’ve watched Doctor Who and Dexter that way, and if you want to catch up with Legend of the Seeker, there’s no better option out there. They have the entire 1st season up for streaming, and they are putting up the 2nd season episodes as they air (with a slight delay of course). It is one of the shows that stream in HD, so it looks great, and there aren’t any commercials either.
I also agree with Randy in that the 2nd season of the show appears to have a much bigger budget than the 1st. That was apparent within a couple minutes of the first episode of this season.
Awesome to have a podcast to listen too again randy. The commute to work was getting kinda boring. Local radio sucks!
I know how you feel.
Great to have the show back, listening now before Santa comes.
Yeah, how awesome was the Dexter season finale? It shold be back about the same time next year. The Sopranos long hiatus was kind of an exception, but it was REALLY annoying.
Just a note. They don’t know Murphy’s cause of death yet. There are drug and anorexia rumors, and also a pre-existing condition, so who knows, yet. It’s just sad though.
I don’t think Lost is taking a break are they? The Olympics are on NBC, not ABC. At least I hope so.
Can’t wait until Chuck too, mmm Yyvonne Strahovski
So I wonder how powerful your computer has to be to play the Star Wars MMO?
Brittany Murphy voiced Joseph Gribble, not Bobby Hill. Just a small correction. You should check out her performance in Drop Dead Gorgeous, if you haven’t already. A solid standout. Enjoying the show. Listening in sections.
I am finishing up this episode now…
*ahem*
Scott and Randy, if you haven’t seen it already, go see Princess and the Frog right now. It is the best 2D animation from Disney since the early 90s. It has great characters, great animation, and a great story. It is definitely worth seeing, and 2D animation is far from being dead, IMHO.
I also wanted to mention that I am really looking forward to Darksiders, especially after watching the 30-minute gameplay footage that IGN put up last week. It is being described as a combination of God of War with Zelda. Add in the colorful comic-styled art design, and you’ve got a game that I just have to play.
I am also monstrously seconding this Polygon. 2D is only as dead as bad scripts make it and Princess and the Frog was sheer delightful, VERY reminiscent of the 90’s stuff. Personally, I’m hoping to see more.
And it’s far from being a flop. Whilst the box office may not be as high as a kite (though nothing to blush at) like Cars from a few years ago the merch sales are more than making up for it. I know at my store alone we flew through a lot of it and have been having trouble keeping it on the shelf since we got it in.
Hopefully we can get some great non-Princess stuff in the future as well. I’ve always been of the opinion that animated non-Princess Disney were always the best (My two favorites were always 101 Dalmatians and Robin Hood).
My favorite has always been Lion King. That wasn’t a princess film until the second movie. And that was direct to DVD, and probably didn’t count as a Princess film anyway, as it’s a Lioness princess. You just never see Kiara in the princess lineup for some reason. Perhaps to save little girls from the horror of seeing their little brothers trying to make one princess eat the others? I dunno!
Hay, where was the outro music! Great show though guys, looking forward to more.
I was in-between my old computer and my new computer, so I wasn’t quite ready to edit episodes myself. So I didn’t want to try and throw 2 different MP3 files at Scott to edit in. Just kept it simple. It will return soon.
Great show guys! Enjoyed every minute. Congrats on the launch of Doctor’s Companion! I’m not a Doctor Who fan so I prob won’t be listening, but I have always been interested in the show but to someone who knows nothing about it, its hard to know where to begin if I was to watch it. What do you guys think? Where should you start if you wanna check out the Doctor? I have a vague feeling I saw some of it as a kid but I only vaguely remember a phone booth, curly hair and a scarf – thats it.
As for presents (although it was for my birthday 2 weeks before and not actually for Christmas itself), I was totally stoked to receive the Doctor Horrible comic book and DVD from my boyfriend.
Hope to get some new articles out very soon, that is if you guys will still have me. Keep up the great podcasts. Nice to hear your voices again.
There is no better place to start (IMO) than with the latest relaunch of the series. Christopher Eccleston did an admirable job in his time, I think. It just happened in 2005, so you don’t have to much to catch up with. Start with season 1. The first episode is titled “Rose”, and it was meant to be a relaunch of sorts, so you really don’t need to know a whole lot about the series to start from there. That’s actually how I got my start into the series.
There are 4 seasons of 13 hour long episodes each (Plus one Christmas special each year after the first year). Then this year, there were 4 specials plus the Christmas special.
As you watch, there are some episodes that you should definitely look forward to, and pay special attention to. They are written by the new showrunner, Steven Moffat. They are:
Season 1, Episode 9: The Empty Child
Season 1, Episode 10: The Doctor Dances
Season 2, Episode 4: The Girl in the Fireplace
Season 3, Episode 10: Blink (My Personal favorite of the series)
Season 4, Episode 8: Silence in the Library
Season 4, Episode 9: Forest of the Dead
Great episodes, and a good glimpse of what is yet to come.
Awesome. Thanks Randy!
So, for my geek haul:
Borderlands and DJ Hero for the Xbox 360
Star Trek (The new movie) and Transformers ROTF on Blu-Ray
The Hedge Knight comic (George R.R. Martin)
Torchlight, Trine, and Audiosurf on Steam
Add those to tons of new socks (Yay!) and my new computer, and it was a good Christmas this year. Borderlands has been fantastic so far, but I’m still waiting for my new copy of DJ Hero to arrive (Received the wrong platform initially).
If you only count Christmas day, then I got GI Joe: Rise of Cobra on Blu-Ray, Lost Season Four DVD set, and the soundtrack for The Princess and the Frog (I’m counting it, so there!). However, I’m counting my new HDTV and PS3 as sort of hybrid birthday/Christmas gifts to myself, even though I’ve had them for a couple months now.
Also, the Steam holiday sale has been very interesting so far. I’ve picked up Indigo Prophecy (made by Quantic Dream, the studio making Heavy Rain) and a couple of indie games for dirt cheap. The sale continues through the coming weekend, so I’m planning to keep an eye on the daily deals.
As stressful as the holidays are normally, I’ve had a bunch of extra stress on my plate the last couple weeks. I’m starting a new job in January, and so I’m having to get everything ready to move across the state to Raleigh as soon as possible. Getting a new job (with a pay increase
) is great, but I hope it won’t take very long to get settled in my new place. Hopefully things will be a lot less stressful for me by the end of next month.
Great to hear some content back here! Christmas was pretty light here on my end. I got a fondue pot (my cooking gadget geekery shrieked in delight) and my sisters got me Simpson’s Scene It which I can not wait to play. (That is if I can get someone to play it with me…)
The problem with Scene-It games that are heavily themed is that usually people will only play it with you once, and then they realize WHY someone go you the Simpsons version, and they will refuse to play again.
But yeah, I love cooking gadgets, so I understand completely.
I know. I was totally tempted to get myself Beatles Trivial Pursuit and Star Trek Scene It but I totally know no one would ever play either of them with me so I saved my money. Which is a shame since I’d love to play either of those.
To be fair… no one will play regular Scene It with me either. Last time I played I had to be my own team vs everyone else.
I would totally play Scene It with you Sunshineyness. I love Scene It! and the Simpsons one would be really fun to play more than once I reckon. I know how you feel. I have a couple of them but so far have no been able to play them much cuz of getting people to play
I had to take an alternate route to St. Louis and back for Christmas this year. It didn’t really hit me until now that I drove right through Kentucky and Indiana on my way via I-64. I was more focused on getting through a 12-hour drive. Normally I go through Tennessee, but there was a rock slide on the main highway that direction, so I ended up going up I-77 and across on I-64 all the way to St Louis.
Anyway, I drove right by/through Randy and Scott’s area of the country. I probably wasn’t really that close to either of you, but it’s a lot closer than I’d normally be. It’s too bad I didn’t think to try and meet either of you guys, although I’m sure holiday plans would have probably made that difficult. Oh well.
