So Randy got the YouTube links for ya posted. I’m trying to keep up with how fast she’s growing. She’s 5 months old now and just got her first tooth! We started her on cereal and she’s started with the getting into stuff. We actually had to pull her away from the wife’s computer cord tonight. She’s not crawling, but she’s scooting.

I’m probably gonna upload all the photos I have of her to my flickr account and will post a link soon. I just need to combine all the pictures that are out there (most are on my father-in-law’s facebook account. lol).

I never got hooked on Homicide or The Wire, despite loving the genre. Might come from living in Baltimore, the setting of both.

Yep, with the exception of The Wire and The SHield (even NYPD Blue, sometimes, and Homicide), yeah, cop shows (and med shows can be watched one week, then a month later watched again without missing anything.

The Wire is my favorite show of all time, and I think it’s probably one of THE best TV shows of all time and doesn’t fall into the above category. You really have to watch every episode.

Perhaps because most of them are throwaway entertainment that don’t require much investment in it. They tend to be very episodic, meaning people can jump in and out of the show without much penalty.

The comment about them being a weird fascination had less to do with, “Why would anyone ever like this?” and more to do with, “Why are these head and shoulders more popular that most other shows that exist?”

I tend to like syndicated cop shows more than medical dramas. I see them as sort of TV junk food that I’ll watch occasionally when nothing else is on. I’ve certainly seen my fair share of Law & Order and CSI shows. I think my favorite is either L&O: SVU or NCIS. The characters on those shows are very good.

I dislike Star Trek and loved the movie.

I’m one of those guys who likes medical shows (and crime shows, but it’s not because of morbid curiosity or anything. I like seeing problems solved, and also love science, and these shows (these days) are pretty pro science.

I was never a big Star Trek fan, I’ve seen some episodes of some series and a movie or two but never followed it but I loved the new Movie.

I think the doc angle is interesting in theory. Take a look at Alive in Joberg and it looks like an episode of COPS. In the third world. With aliens. Awesome!

But it’s so half assed in the movie. The whole point of cinema verite is that it is locked into one view. You don’t have an omniscient god’s eye view in a doc or in real life for that matter.
If you don’t want to be locked into that than just don’t introduce the device to begin with. Just abandoning it half way through seems really half assed to me.

I didn’t intend to imply that the “shaky cam” in the movie (Which wasn’t that bad) was a problem for me. It was entirely the “documentary” style.

Re: District 9. I actually liked the “cinema verite” (shaky cam) component of the movie, and viewed it as a semi-orthogonal point-of-view within the movie. Unlike Blair Witch and Cloverfield, where it was the only point of view, in this case it was just what one point of view captured in the context of the larger reality.

I do agree that movies over-rely on CGI these days, and it often gets in the way for me – it often just looks ridiculously fake to me. In this case, the CGI wasn’t overdone, instead it made the situation totally believable visually.

I’ll probably listen through this again today because I want to remember what I said in a few segments. Unfortunately, I assume you edited out your coughing fit where I had a few random mime comments to pass the time. Then again, they are probably much more interesting and mysterious if nobody gets to hear them.
