Han’s scruffy-looking ;)
The Empire Strikes Back!
Leia: why, you stuck up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerf-herder
Han: who’s scruffy-looking?
One of my favourite all time Star Wars quotes!
Aha. I knew I had heard that before. Any guess on the “J Edgar Hoover” line? :)
I’m glad you guys posted a new ep , Keep up the great work
Great to hear you back guys.
“Ex-Pat” means ex-patriot, an American who moves and lives in a foreign country (either for good or for an extended period). Basically they leave their American roots behind. Madonna would be an ex-pat I guess.
I’d like to suggest a podcast (not affiliated, just a fan). The Skeptic’s Guide to the Universe. Very science based, but fun, the guys (and girl) are entertaining and funny, but full of cool info and good skepticism.
I also forgot to point out that I love to listen to Major Nelson’s podcast every chance I get. A Microsoft employee podcasting on the 360. Usually gets some good stuff on there.
Thanks for the “Ex-Pat” definition.
Id like to second the recommendation for the skeptics guide to the universe. i listen to it myself and like mr pointy said it is very science based but also a lot of fun. They take a skeptical view on things which is a lot better than the news on tv gives us these days.
Id like to third the recommendation for the skeptics guide to the universe.
The new vidcast sounds like it will be a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Shooting and editing video is a lot of fun, but very time consuming. Thanks to my chosen career, I have done a lot of video editing and even some video production on several scales (from a full crew to just a couple guys with a camera). For video editing, I have used Adobe Premiere (their editing software), Adobe AfterEffects (not really made for easy editing, but it works in a pinch), a fairly expensive Avid editing suite, and a bit of Final Cut Pro. All of these packages have their strengths and weaknesses, but I think I like Final Cut the best, at least for straight-up editing of video footage. I’m sure that Final Cut Express will work out well for you.
I wanted Express over Pro, because I don’t think I’d get to the point where I’d be missing the extra features. I’m still learning my way through things though. Hopefully everyone will give the show a watch or two, even if the subject matter isn’t up their alley. If for no other reason than to see what the show ends up looking like.
I have spent a ton of time in the last few days getting everything ready for shooting. I spent almost the entire day yesterday putting together the backdrop. a 7′x7′ Behemoth. It’s a PVC structure with a sheet for the backdrop, currently. Putting the PVC together wasn’t a lot of work, but getting the sheet to work right was a real chore.
Be sure to let me know what you think once the episode goes up.
Yeah, I really doubt that you’d need anything from Pro for what you’re doing. If you look at the differences between the two, there’s not really a whole lot. The main differences would only matter to someone doing a high volume of stuff.
If FinalCut Express is like Pro, you have to render your video footage in order to be able to scrub through it, especially if you are editing HD footage (and a computer with a slower processor will slow things down). FinalCut renders out preview clips for itself that are much smaller than your actual footage to make things more processor-friendly.
I still need to see the new Underworld movie. I really liked the first two. I also think Rhona Mitra looks eerily like Kate Beckinsale. The character she plays in Doomsday looks very similar to Beckinsale’s Underworld character, so I don’t think they could have cast anyone who looks more like Kate Beckinsale if they tried.
FYI, Tim Burton has nothing to do with Coraline. He was a producer for Nightmare Before Christmas, but he isn’t for Coraline. Henry Selick directed Nightmare, and he is the one making Coraline.
Yeah, I knew that. I’m sure I got Burton stuck in my head because of Selick. Thanks for the heads up.
where would drwho be on your top TV show list for the TV shows that are now , nether one of you had it for your top 5 but both of you like the show .
The email I sent in is much more fun if you read the questions quickly back to back. Here’s the answer key, even though you’ve already gotten most of them:
“What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?” = Monty Python & The Holy Grail
“Why is J. Edgar Hoover on your phone?” = Clue
“Are you the Keymaster?” = Ghostbusters
“Who’s scruffy-looking?” = The Empire Strikes Back (Good job, Munchykins!)
“Why so serious?” = Dark Knight
“Why’d it have to be snakes?” = Raiders of the Lost Ark
“Is this a kissing book?” = Princess Bride (a movie I know WAY too many quotes from)
Admittedly, the quote from Clue is pretty obscure, even if you’ve seen the movie more than once. It happens right after they let the cop out of the room. The whole exchange goes like this…
Cop: What’s going on around here? And why would you lock me in? And why are you receiving phone calls from J. Edgar Hoover?
Wadsworth: J. Edgar Hoover?
Cop: That’s right! The head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation!
Colonel Mustard: Why is J. Edgar Hoover on your phone?
Wadsworth: I don’t know, he’s on everybody else’s, why shouldn’t he be on mine?
Maybe I should dig up some more movie quote questions and send them to you guys. I’m sure I could find some that are even harder to guess where they are from.
i was sitting there going hmmmm i totally know that… scruffy looking… scruffy looking…. OOH!!! STAR WARS!!!! at which point my boss yelled at me to shut up LOL
Good call on including World of Goo in your recommendations. FYI, the World of Goo website has the soundtrack available to download for free.
I have a few more Wii game suggestions to add.
Boom Blox is a great party game. It is easy to play, and it is a blast with friends. The game is sort of a cross between Jenga and the carnival game where you knock down bottles by throwing balls.
Okami is a re-release of a PS2 game. It is an adventure game that has a similar type of structure to a Zelda title. It is a gorgeous game, and it has a great story centered around some fun characters. Okami is also pretty long, so you’ll definitely get you’re money’s worth.
Super Mario Galaxy is a quality Mario title. If you’ve ever enjoyed a Mario game before (especially the 3D ones), then it is definitely worth checking out.
Zack & Wiki is also a fun little title. It is a “point and click” adventure/puzzle game. It has a fun sense of humor, and the puzzles are put together very well.
The uninvited is a remake of A tale of two sisters. I cannot recommened the original enough, its still my top film i’ve watched ever. Its got a lot more story and hardly any horror that you’d expect. Granted i don#t wacth many films but if i care enough to buy the DVD i love it.
Uhh The uninvited though seems more of a horror flick that changes parts of the original#s plot and i’d most likly avoid it :/
Here a 5 quotes for you guys .
1 . If I’m not back in five minutes… wait longer!
2. Was she in there before you baked it?
3.I always feel like an idiot. But I am an idiot, so it kinda works out!
4.Kiss me. Kiss me as if it were the last time.
5.My husband and I fell in love at first sight… maybe I should have taken a second look.
The first one is Ace Ventura. the Second one is one of the Adams Family movies. The other three I do not recall ever hearing.
1. Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
2. Adams Family Values
3. Billy Madison
4. Casablanca
5. Crimes and Misdemeanors
Ah. Billy Madison would be the only other movie I’ve watched enough to possibly have a chance of recognizing the quote.
scott you know your movies
I can’t wait for both Coraline in 3D and Push. I’m doing a double feature tonight of both of them.
Coraline looks more Nightmare Before Christmasish than “The Corpse Bride” did, which I think is due largely too Selick. For whatever reason Corpse Bride looked rather like a computer generated film than stop motion. The visuals in this film look amazing though and it seems to have a pretty good story.
Push really looks like it could go either way and be something extremely interesting (i.e. Heroes) or something extremely dull (i.e. Wanted).
I might post more after I see them.
-Reid
P.S. Wayne your right, Grand Torino rocked, Eastwood got robbed for an Oscar nod
I liked Push quite a bit. But It’s a bit wishy-washy when it comes to the story. You really have to forgive it for that. But I really liked the characters, and the setting. I think a storyline that doesn’t involved the Watchers so much would have worked a lot better.
I love Dakota as an actress. One of the best people to happen to young Hollywood in a long while. With that said, I saw the first scene of her’s I didn’t really like. She doesn’t do drunk well at all. I don’t blame her for that. But the scene was virtually useless, so I don’t understand why it was even kept. Considering her cussing in the movie, I have to assume it was an effort to “toughen” her character up from her stereotypical role. But it was just a little bizarre.
I really want to see Coraline in 3d, but we only got it in 2d here, thanks to My Bloody Valentine still hogging the one 3d screen here. they have 2 screens of that movie, but still felt the need to continue to show that in 3d instead. Bah, another reason to dislike the movie.
Also watched Gran Torino. Just what I needed, another movie that makes me hate the award shows for not getting the recognition it deserved. I’ve now seen just about all the “Best Picture” movies (Still missing Slumdog and The Reader), and I honestly think Dark Knight definitely should have been in, with Gran Torino vying for one of those spots as well.
“I really want to see Coraline”
Does that mean you are over your fear of claymation or does Gumby still haunt your dreams?
Still haunts me. But mostly it was the creepy ass “Claymation can move through walls” stuff that messed me up with that show. I loved Nightmare, so this reminds me more of that.
I mean, as a kid, if your walls don’t protect you, what the hell does?
Trust me, you really need to see Coraline in 3D if at all possible. It really makes the movie feel tangible, like you could reach out and touch the characters and sets.
I thought Coraline was great, and they really haven’t shown you that much in the trailers. The pacing is deliberately slow, but I never found it boring. Henry Selick seems to have a knack for creating magic through stop-motion.
