Great show guys. the sound quality was a lot better this time.
Gravatar working now?
damn it!
yay working
Good job :P
Thanks for the show. Audio Quality was great. Suggestion: put the Question of the Week and the reply address in the show notes. Since the show is long I usually listen to it in the car, and forget the question or the reply address by the time I get home. If I had a reminder in the show notes…
Matt Smith doesn’t look emo at all. He has a posh, brit hairdo which can be just as annoying but I wouldn’t call it emo
I agree completely. Not emo at all. I knew people were going to say that tho. Because he’s young and stylish. Most people just lump it all together.
Has nothing to do with “young and stylish”. It has everything to do with that plastered layer of hair. I definitely consider it to be emo looking. It’s not emo, obviously, and I don’t think I said as much. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t look like it.
I’ve been playing a ton of video games in the last few months as well. Recently I’ve been playing a ton of Fable 2, and I am definitely looking forward to the new DLC this week. I have also played a lot of Prince of Persia, Mirror’s Edge, and Banjo Kazooie. I picked up Civilization Revolution and Bioshock over the holidays, and I need to get back into the Orange Box sometime. I am also interested in some of the new DLC for Burnout PAradise coming out this year, especially the Legendary Cars pack which includes knockoffs of the BTF Delorean (including the ability to hover!), Ecto-1, KITT, and the General Lee from Dukes of Hazzard.
….so I’ve got a lot of games to keep me busy for a while, even without all the new games coming out this year that I am interested in.
So didn’t know about the Burnout Paradise Legendary Cars pack . . . must get Burnout Paradise now. The Delorean hovers???? ::drool::
Yeah, each of the Legendary cars has a special function. I assume that the Ecto-1 will have working sirens and lights. Burnout Paradise is a great racing game to begin with, but the three different free DLC packs they put out last year really kept the game afloat. Everything coming out this year will NOT be free, but it still looks pretty cool. It’s pretty easy to find Burnout Paradise for a decent price as well.
Personally, I don’t care about Matt Smith’s hair (emo or not). It’s all pretty moot since we haven’t seen him as The Doctor yet. What if they shave his head or something? ;)
Oh, I definitely think they will make him look right. That was never in question. And as I said, I can definitely see the “Doctor” look in his face. He’s definitely got it there.
From the Doctor Who Confidential episode announcing Matt Smith as the new Doctor:
“… It was just spot on. Right from the beginning. The way he said his lines, the way he looked, his hair… it was just like, oh. That’s him. That’s the Doctor.”
– Steven Moffat in response to Matt Smith’s first audition.
I don’t think there’s any hope for a hair change. Looks like his look will remain pretty much the same. Whether you think it’s “emo” or not.
Personally, I rather like his hair as it is. It’s very mod, and very British, and suits Matt Smith very well.
BTW, the picture of Matt Smith in front of the TARDIS isn’t photoshopped. It’s sort of an announcement promo pic that I think he shot at the same time he was interviewed about getting the role. If you notice, in all of his interviews from DWC, he’s wearing the same outfit. I don’t think it’ll be what he’s wearing as the Doctor, especially considering they don’t start shooting until the summer. I doubt they already have wardrobe picked out.
Personally I thought it looked more like 80’s new wave than emo (ie Flock of Seagulls)
Thank you!
Christ, for someone that isn’t arguing, you certainly do get awful happy when someone presents an opposite point of view. I’ve said from the beginning that this was only my opinion, it’s what I thought of when I saw it. If you, or anyone else doesn’t see it, then that’s perfectly fine. Go on about your life. Rest easy that your precious doctor has a flip rather than a matte, and be happy.
But for crying out loud, I never indicated that it WAS emo, or that others should see it that way. This shouldn’t have even gotten this much discussion. Once again I say, you guys are far too sensitive to anything vaguely construed as being negative to something you love.
I’m adding my comparison picture to the post to state my final point. This will be the last time I mention it in this thread, and I encourage everyone that doesn’t have anything better than “Thank You!” or “Ah ha!” or any other similarly snide remarks to do the same.
For the sake of the comparison, you can see it in the gallery. Matt is on the right, a picture of an emo style haircut from a hair stylist’s website is on the left. The picture of Matt that I used was one of the first pictures I saw, so that’s why I’m using that specific picture. As I said, he has plenty of pictures that looks completely different. And yeah, I can see New Wave in the interview version of Matt’s hair. Though I don’t think it got as extreme as Flock of Seagulls was at times (http://media.ebaumsworld.com/mediaFiles/picture/514184/417771.jpg). I can at least acknowledge that there is some similarities. But then again, Emo is so taboo that nobody could allow their precious Doctor to be associated with that style.
Randy, the book your thinking of is Lois Lowry’s “The Giver.”
Awesome book. It’s like 1984 for kids. :P
There’s been a movie in development hell for awhile now with Tim Robbins I believe attatched and wanting to make it.
I was going to post this too :) This is a great book.
I kinda hope he doesn’t change his hair I dig the posh look
I think I like the picture with the Tardis the best, although that could be due to the context. I think it would be cool if he had a “Harry Potter” haircut in the sense that it is always somewhat messy.
At work so cant sign in, but I cant believe the hair is an issue at all………..dude, theres a whole department on a show called “hair and makeup” they will make him look how they want him to.
Didnt see your comment saying they wernt going to change it, sorry Scott. However, I seriously dont think hair is an issue, as long as he can act.
I understand where you are coming from by saying it’s not an issue. And for the most part, it isn’t. I never said it was. I just said that the guy’s hairstyle reminded me of the emo look. I didn’t say that it would effect the way he played the character, or that I was worried about him as a result. It was just some throwaway comment that I’ve heard everyone around me echo when I bring up the subject to them.
It is very insignificant in the grand scheme of things. It’s as if I said “He has a weird eye color”, and then we had a 20 comment debate about whether or not his eye color was weird.
However, I definitely think that the hair is important to the character. It will define the character of The Doctor that Matt plays, along with his outfit (Trenchcoat? Leather coat? Scarf? Glasses? etc). But, ultimately, that’s the only way it’s really important. It isn’t important in the “It has to be this way or else it will completely break continuity” way.
Personally, I happen to like some hairstyles more than others from the previous Doctors, so I definitely think it is somewhat relevant. But on a scale from 1-10, it ranks somewhat near the bottom of that scale.
But then again, the discussion never had anything whatsoever to do with whether or not I liked his hair, or I thought it was going to look good as “The Doctor’s” hairstyle. It was just a simple comment on what it looked like.
Shave it off says I! We could use a bald Doctor
Doctor Piccard!
Hold the phone………. I actuially like that idea if they ever make him old again (though I doupt that due to the dialog in the “time crash” special where tennant talks to the 5th doctor:
“You know, I loved being you. Back when I first started, at the very beginning, I was always trying to be old and grumpy and important—like you do, when you’re young. And then I was you, and it was all dashing about and playing cricket and my voice going all squeaky when I shouted. I still do that, the voice thing, I got that from you. Oh, and the trainers. And… [putting his glasses on] snap! ‘Cos you know what, Doctor? You were my Doctor.”
I am of the belief they are slowly Benjamin Buttoning the Doctor
What about a mohawk? Afro? Dreds? Corn rows? Shoulder-length? An explosion of spikes?
If we’re imagining the Doctor with a different hairstyle, we might as well go overboard with it. Imagine David Tenant with a mohawk and try not to laugh. I dare you! :D
Not Possible. And can’t get the image out of my head now. Thanks! :)
And for everyone’s viewing pleasure….or displeasure….I present to you a Super-Speedy Photoshop rendition of David Tenant with a mohawk! (No substitutions, exchanges, or refunds) ;)

I’m slowly getting through this episode….
The Dresden Files was made into a very short-lived series on Sci-Fi. It was kind of fun, but it didn’t really have much of a chance to get going before it was canned.
Choose Your Own Adventure books were great! I couldn’t read enough of those as a kid!
I completely forgot to include Frank Herbert’s Dune in my favorite novels list!
I didn’t include A Song of Ice and Fire in my list because it isn’t done. Thinking about it though, I might include them anyway because the books that are out are really good, so if the series doesn’t get finished, it will still be worth including it in my favorite books.
I need to re-read the Foundation books. There are several ones, but I haven’t read them in many years.
If you ever do a Song of Ice and Fire episode, I would be more than happy to make a guest appearance if you need someone to discuss it with. :D
If the Dresden Files was actually adapted into a short mini series based on the book, I think SciFi may have done a much better job even though I did like them trying to pursue their own path.
I did too! I liked the hockey stick and drum stick. And Paul Blackthorne as Harry. And Terrance Mann as Bob. I just liked the show.
Addicted to Streaming Netflix on the 360. On my new HD TV. I really don’t feel the need to leave my house much anymore.
I should be more addicted to streaming with my 360 on my HDTV, but I have an old 360. I need the HDMI.
Sorry, just catching up on the podcast (been a busy week at work). I’m SO in for My Bloody Valentine 3-D. I’m addicted to horror movies (cheesier the better) and Jensen Ackles. In other wordes, this movie was made for me! Can’t wait to see it.
I hope 88 comes out soon
Me too! :)
Seriously enough though, I have to wait for Wayne to get things settled in his new abode.
I can’t wait to see what you guys think of the email I sent to the GeekiNBox. I hope you find it as amusing as I did…
