GeekiN Episode #82 – The Triumphant Return
Tuesday, November 25th, 2008
GeekiNtertainment. You guys remember that podcast, right? I can’t say I’d blame you if you said “No”. After all, it has been just about 4 months since the last time we posted an episode. However, we finally managed to get together for a “short” episode to fill everyone in on the plans for the future. Granted…by short, I mean an hour and a half. But still, that’s shorter than what we usually get out of a show. Don’t forget to spam our questions inbox with plenty of questions and comments before next episode. Enjoy!

Then, Yorick Brown's long journey through an Earth populated only by women comes to its dramatic, unexpected conclusion.
Alright I think I fixed it. The comments from the old one were deleted because I wanted to repost it rather than edit the old one so that iTunes would download the new file. Sorry about that.
Yay! That’s more like it. :D
Welcome back! Your thoughts and opinions have been missed.
I’ve been missing this podcast, so it’s great to hear from you again, and it’s nice to hear about what’s been going on with you guys.
I’ve got Jeremiah on my Netflix queue, so maybe I’ll start watching it. I’ve been watching 1st season Dr. Who (haven’t seen it before), but they’ve only got half the season available for streaming so I’ll need something else to start when they run out.
I really want to see Australia. Visually, I think the movie looks great, and I really liked Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge, two movies also directed by Baz Luhrmann. I also want to see Transporter 3. I hope it is as goofy and over-the-top as the second movie was.
However, I will probably go to see Bolt before I see either of those as I want to see it in Digital 3D before it leaves theaters.
Sorry the audio got switched out on the episode. Thanks for the fix, Scott. It was a long night last night. ;)
In any case, it felt good to get back to recording. We are planning to start much earlier in the day on Saturday. So I imagine that the episode that takes place then will be pretty long. We have a lot to talk about, I believe. Some of which will be old. But I still want to get it discussed. Heck, we have a whole television season to offer opinions on, still.
Welcome back, guys! Congrats on little Willow and your new job, Wayne, and Randy, I’m so happy to hear that you are on the mend. I’ve missed your ‘casts and look forward to hearing you guys a bit more regularly again!
Thank god this is back. Never realised how much I actually missed this show.
When you’ve been recording a show for 3 years, it often loses it’s appeal. Talking for hours at a time once a week is actually a bit tedious. But it’s something we always come back to, because it’s ultimately a lot of fun. In fact, I found that it’s even more fun when we mix in even more opinions. Like in the case of GeekiNput and The GeekiNbox, those are two of my favorite sections. Wayne and I get to the point where we can almost always tell what the other is going to think about something. But mixing in a fresh opinion about a show, a game, a movie etc always makes it interesting.
In fact, take the comments on the Twilight review (Please, please…just take them!). Sure, they got pretty heated. And I don’t agree with what was said in a lot of cases. However, I get a lot of enjoyment out of having a healthy debate with new points of view.
So yeah, anyway…I REALLY enjoy doing these shows. I really hope we are able to keep this up for 3 more years. And beyond. So long as we have people that come here and enjoy the shows, that’s quite likely. And if it gets to the point where I or Wayne can’t continue together, I hope we find away to continue the show anyway.
oh wow. I am really happy this is back. It was one of the first podcasts I started listening to (Buffcast being the first). I have really missed it. now I can get my video game talk fix and this is the only show I listen to that has any real tech talk on it.
Its interesting to hear mention of the it losing its appeal after a long period. I listened to an interview the the actor who played Doyle (puppet master guy) on heroes this season. he is apparently into podcasting heavily, teaching courses and such. he talked about the phenomenon in podcasting you’re talking about. he says at first it is a fun thing to do for people and then eventually most find it become more of a chore. eventually they take vacations and such and the strain listeners put on them when they are late releasing episodes makes their shows even less appealing. most end this way leaving listeners waiting for the next episode.
Its awesome that you guys have got through hard times and are going strong. Thanks for taking the time because its probably my favorite podcaast.
If we didn’t have loyal listeners, and a site that has become somewhat of a community, I can imagine it would be a bit harder to continue through the rough patches, if we didn’t have that. Plus, I have to say, the best thing we ever did on this site was to increase the number of podcasts we have. Even when we are down, Scott and Ben are usually up. So it’s easy to keep people interested when one show is away. And even if our shows are on a break at the same time, we have the site’s articles to keep people interested.
To the future! :)
Great to have you back!
Hehe, I loved Randy’s silly comment “the problem with California is that you are a world away from anything relevant…” Guess that’s a Kentucky view of the world. Admittedly, those of us living in Silicon Valley have a similar view of the East Coast – we consider Boston, DC, and NYC to be the relevant cities East of Chicago.
BTW, the best (chain) places to eat in CA definitely include In-N-Out burger and Chipotle!
It is indeed good to be back to something famaliar. I missed the shows a lot.
@MtnMeister: we had Chipotle back in ky, so that’s not a big deal for me. What is strange to me are all the taco stands here. Hardee’s is Carl’s Jr here, and there are no Kroger’s! I agree with you that it depends on the area you are from that determines what is “relevant.” I could care less about Florida and most other stuff back east, except New York.
Thanks to all the listeners for holding on this long. Hopefully we’ll keep everyone entertained for years to come!
California is more of an East Coast view than a Kentucky view, as I’d still have that basic view anywhere else on the East Coast.
Anywho, thanks for backing me up, MtnMeister. He just keeps raving about Jack-in-the-Box every time I bring up In-and-Out. I’ve had Jack’s, and while it isn’t bad, I put it on the same level as most other fast food locations. But people freaking rave about In-and-Out’s burgers. Personally, one of my favorite burgers is Steak and Shake’s. So I guess it’s fair. Cali doesn’t have any Steak and Shakes, and we don’t get the In-and-Out. :)
When I loaded up iTunes and saw Geekintertainment downloading it made me very happy.
Nice to hear that you’re loving SoCal Wayne and that you have a job (not easy in this economy I’d imagine). Please, for me, someone who who podcasts a radio show from SoCal (Adam Carolla Show), who hears them talk about In and Out Burger, have a burger there. I want to knoow if it’s all people say it is. :)
Must be weird, going from KY to CA. I hope you habla a little espaƱol? :) I’d say see Tijuana but with a wife and daughter on the way, that probably isn’t the best idea. Tijuana seems best for debauchery. :)
Randy, good to hear you’re doing great after the surgery. Brain surgery isn’t some minor thing. I’m sure we all were worried and hoping for the best. If you, however, develop any super-intelligence from said surgery, use it for good. :)
I”m also loving Netflix on XBL. I haven’t watched much but rewatched a Heroes episode and watched the first two episodes of Forever Knight, a series that I watched not regularly, but wanted to (didn’t really know when it was on). Good show.
I want to read Twilight. I’m a big Anne Rice fan, and of course am a vampire fan (Buffy fanboy; love True Blood). I want to see what all the fuss is about I guess, that’s how I got into Harry Potter. i don’t expect it to be as good as any of that, but am still curious.
I really like Jason Statham. Yeah, he plays the same character in a lot of his movies, but that character is awesomeness. :)
Adios, por ahora :)
Glad to hear ya back guys! Congrats on teh new job Wayne….I’ve been using the NOD32 security suite for a few months now, and I agree….much better than AVG! Randy….it is great that you are healing up and recovering nicely. One of these days you should make teh trip up here and record with us sometime….been too long man!
Wow, loving the comments guys, keep ‘em coming. I promise to try in and out burger as soon as I’m paid and actually have some money. The move here has been really nice, but a huge change.
I see Tijuana everyday, just look south and it’s right there. Listening to all the locals, I don’t ever want to go there. Plus right now there is a drug war going on there with lots of murder… No thanks.
I’ve mentioned Forever Knight before. I used to watch it when it came on real late. The premise isn’t far from Angel. I loved that show though.
Wayne, I forgot to say congratulations! New job, new locale, and Willow on the way. Big and positive life changes!
I’m NorCal, so I get to diss SoCal – this will be fun! I loved your comment about taco stands (called taqueria’s around here). Yup, more taco stands than Starbuck’s – each with their own style. Call them taqueria’s they’ll think you’re a local – and remember that no one from Cali calls San Francisco “Frisco.”
Be sure to explore the area before the baby comes. Drive up the coast, visit the awesome zoo, or tour the aircraft carrier – which is really cool. And In-N-Out totally beats Jack in the Box (although Jack’s has great commercials). Order In-N-Out “animal style” (not on the menu) for a special treat – or google their secret menu to be in the know.
Jack’s does have great commercials, that’s for sure. Sometimes we are lucky enough to get one here. All I really wanted when I went to JitB was a “I Survived Jack-in-the-Box” t-shirts. I was disappointed that they didn’t sell them, though. :(
“I survived JitB.” That brings back memories. I lived in WA state in the 80s when a couple people from the area died from eating e. coli contaminated burgers at JitB. Very sad, and JitB nearly went out of business. They changed their named to Monterey Jack’s for a while until the bad PR died down (no pun intended). It wasn’t their fault – they were just unlucky enough to be involved in the first major case of e. coli related food deaths that have become increasing common. At the time it was unthinkable that food could be contaminated.
So I went and saw both Bolt and Australia today.
Bolt was awesome, just as good as Pixar’s best stuff, IMHO. Rhino the Hamster steals every single scene that he is in.
Australia was also very good (and I loved the old fashioned feel to it), but it could have used a bit more time in the editing room. The movie could have used a bit more focus at times, bogging down something that could have been great instead of merely good.
Awesome to hear you’re getting into Jeremiah. It’s a great show! I watched it on TV years ago but still hanging for Season 2 to be released on DVD.
MtnMeister: Yeah, I know it wasn’t their fault. That’s why I told the joke while eating there. If they would have been any more likely to kill me than a different place, I wouldn’t have been eating there at all :) I did find it bizarre to see a fast food restaurant serve egg rolls, however.
Polygon: Can’t wait to see Bolt. I was just running down the list of movies I have to see after having missed movies for 3 months. Bolt, Twilight, The Secret Life of Bees, and Eagle Eye. Anything else I’ve missed that is worth my attention?
Critter: The first half of the 1st episode was a bit weak because of Theo (The lady, not Malcolm Jamal Warner), IMO. However, after she went off the screen, if got pretty good. I loved Jericho a lot, so this show is like candy to me. I just love the Post-apocalyptic setting in general.
Oh it is so awesome to hear you guys again. Randy- your positive health is really amazing to hear and I hope you nothing but good health in the future. Wayne- so great to hear about a little girl! Willow is a really sweet name, and congrats on finding a job and I really hope you guys can get an apartment and settled in before the baby comes.
You. Need. To. Go. To. In N’ Out. I lived in CA for five years and it was the only thing that I wish was out east. And when you go, it’s not on the menu, but order a grilled cheese sandwhich animal style and fries (which you can get animal style as well) That was always my order. (Than I’d pour Tabasco over those golden crispy fries… *drools*)
And actually ever since the incident at Jack in the Box they actually have a record for the best health standards of anyone in the industry, and were rated as having some of the best quality of foods- outranking McDonalds or Burger King.
I’m really looking forward to Australia, I’m a big nerd for Luhrman so I was there when his name was on it.
