GeekiN Episode #71: 04/30/08
Wednesday, April 30th, 2008
After a couple of weeks off, we return with quite a bit to talk about. Randy was on an episode of Geek By Night, and seems to be letting his fame go to his head. GTA 4 sounds like a better game thanks to the multiplayer game types, so Randy is going to the midnight release. Wizards of the Coast are releasing D&D 4th edition and tools to let you play with your friends online. Nathan Fillion is coming back to TV in the show “Castle”. Wayne watched The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising and gives his take on the movie. BBC America is getting the Robin Hood series that has been out for a while in the UK. We also take a look into a secret D&D session via 8-Bit D&D. We didn’t have enough time to get to the Geek Jerk Reaction or the GeekiNbox, so we will get around to them next week.

A Louis spin-off series?? hmm… *ponders*
We need to get a group together and tear up Liberty City.
I’m with Wayne on the thing about Alias’ final episode being a bit of a disappointment. That said.. it did suffer from an unexpected cancellation mid-season, and I was really pleased that they at least TRIED to address all the little mysteries and wrap things up neatly. There just wasn’t the time to fully conclude everything, and there were definately parts of the story that suffered for that… for example I don’t feel that Sydney’s Mum’s story was very believable at all, and clearly a rushed ending.
But it does give me high hopes for lost, in that hopefully JJ will try to ensure that the story is fully wrapped up when it ends, and having a timeline up to the ending must help that.
Yeah, I’ve started enjoying Lost a lot more since they announced their end date. You can tell they’re not stalling anymore.
I just got GTA IV :)
I really think you gave How I Met Your Mother a chance you’d like it. I love it.
But I don’t watch many sitcoms either.
You played the D&D clip and mentioned that you thought it was originally from something else but didn’t know what. Well it was called Summoner Geeks and was an extra on the Playstation 2 game Summoner, one of the first games to come out for the system. It featured characters from the game and from Red Faction playing together and I guess the 8-bit guys added the intro and outro and reanimated it.
You can find the original here if you’re interested.

To Critter2003
The original clip was simply a comedy group called the Dead Alewives (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_Alewives). I used to hear them sometimes on Dr. Demento. Thats where I first heard the skit played above. I did love it when I opened Summoner and saw that video though. Brought back a lot of nostalgia.
Anyways.. great episode as always guys.
Randy, you talked about the producers of Lost talking about the themes for future seasons. What are they? Or can you post a link to where they talked about it?
I second TheDoctor’s request.

You are looking for #2. Its nothing big. But then again, after I told Wayne, he seemed a bit disappointed to know. I however, love knowing that they are not showing the end of the show with the current stuff.
Thank You Randy…it may make me watch the show a little bit different.
