GeekiN Episode #69: 04/04/08
Friday, April 4th, 2008
This week we start off with some old inside jokes. Randy is catching up with the rest of us on Lost, so we had to discuss a little where he is now. We also drafted our Lost dream team. DRM free content would be worth up to $3 to Randy. Most of the cast of Buffy came together for a reunion and we let you know what was discussed. GTA4 is coming out with the option to purchase the songs you hear in the game… Ok. We had plenty of emails to answer for the GeekiNbox, so we had to cut them in half again. The Geek Jerk Reaction and the Box Office Report make a small appearance, and Wayne falls asleep at the end of the show… Ok, so he stays awake the whole time, but wouldn’t that be funny? Leave us a comment to let us know what you think.

Y The Last Man Vol. 5In this final Deluxe Edition hardcover collecting Y #49-60, Yorick and Agent 355 prepare for their ultimate quest to reunite the last man with his lost love, while the person, people or thing behind the disaster that wiped out half of humanity is revealed. Then, Yorick Brown's long journey through an Earth populated only by women comes to its dramatic, unexpected conclusion.
You mentioned Jet Li retiring from movies. Just to clarify, he said Fearless was going to be his last Chinese film. I believe that was largely because Hollywood pays better but he didn’t plan on giving up acting entirely. Looking on IMDB though, it seems he did a movie called The Warlords (Tau ming chong) that looks like it’s a Chinese movie so maybe it didn’t stick anyway. Just thought I’d try to clear that up.
I wanted email my movies I’m looking forward to. Except,I can’t find the email address to send it to anywhere. And somehow I either miss it when I hear the email address given. Or you guys aren’t giving the address. I should have it on my email address list but don’t.
Sooo Hopefully you guys will see this.
Movies I’m looking forward to?
NOT very many.A lot I could probably wait until the movies come out on dvd or something.
But I’m looking forward to Harry Potter. Because I liked Order Of the Phoenix a lot more than Goblet of Fire.
I’m also looking forward to Twilight. It’s a book series and Twilight is the first book. It’s about vampires and werewolves. And they have Robert Pattinson(AKA Cedric Diggory) as the male main role.
The books are pretty good.
You send questions to questions@geekshow.us.
How are you missing the email address? We said it like 50 times that episode. :)
Illyria, I’m looking forward to the Twilight movie also.
Here is my Lost team:
Sayid: He’s very good for protection.
Kate: She can track stuff.
Jack: Cause he’s a doctor.
Jin: He can fish and is also good in a fight.
Charlie: He is the heart of the team. He’s very loyal and stands up for the people he cares about.
I didn’t choose Locke cause he annoys me and he also causes tension with the rest of the group.
my lost team is
locke: hes freaking awesome
sun:she can make medicine
jack: he saved some lives…..
Chuck Noland: oh wait wrong thing..
jin: mmm food…
i stopped watching part way into season 2 cuz it started sucking so i dont know the new people so i will say sayid:he can help locke get food…?
You guys asked for people to send in their list of anticipated movies an episode or two ago, so I sent mine. I am obviously looking forward to some more than others. Since you guys didn’t recognize some of these movies, I’ll give a short explanation on why I’m looking forward to each movie on my list. :D
Leatherheads – This just came out. George Clooney is in it. I’m interested in it because a large portion of it was shot near where I live.
Street Kings – This is a cop drama with Keanu Reeves, Forrest Whitaker, Hugh Laurie (House,MD), and Jay Mohr. I thought the trailer looked pretty interesting.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall – Kristen Bell is in it. :)
Iron Man – Looks awesome.
Speed Racer – I am an animator, and the visuals in the trailers intrigue me. I think this will be a bizarre mess of a movie, but I still want to see it.
Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian – I liked the first Narnia movie, and the trailers for this one look ten times better.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull – It’s Indy on the big screen again! :D
The Incredible Hulk – The teaser looked good, and I usually like Edward Norton, so I’m giving this one a chance.
Get Smart – I wasn’t sure about this one until I saw the trailers. Now I can’t wait.
Kung Fu Panda – I’m sort of on the fence for this one. The trailers are so-so, but the buzz I’ve read on it says it’s pretty good. I’m still pretty cautious though.
Wall-E – It’s Pixar. I gotta see it. Plus the full trailer is just brilliant.
Wanted – The trailers look interesting. I never read the comic, so I won’t have any comparisons going in.
Hancock – Will Smith as a drunk super hero? I’m sold.
Hellboy 2 – I liked the first movie, and the trailers for this one look amazing.
The Dark Knight – Batman Begins is great. I hope this will continue that.
X-Files 2 – I won’t be super-sure about this one until we get to see a trailer or two, but I’m holding out hope that it will be good.
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor – I like the first two Mummy movies, especially Brendan Frasier. I hope this one will just as fun as the first two. (The Scorpion King spin-off doesn’t count)
Pineapple Express – Another comedy from the Apatow camp. The trailer looks pretty funny.
Tropic Thunder – Robert Downey, Jr playing a black man? That’s just something weird enough that I’ve got to see it. This is a comedy coming out in August.
Righteous Kill – Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Donnie Wahlberg, Carla Gugino, John Leguizamo, 50 Cent, Brian Dennehy….interested yet? The teaser trailer looks good, so it is on my radar.
Valkyrie – Bryan Singer’s next movie about the plot to assassinate Hitler in WW2.
The Brothers Bloom – Did you ever see Brick? If so, then you know why I’m interested in this one. This is a con man movie from the writer/director of Brick, starring Adrien Brody, Mark Ruffalo, and Rachel Weisz.
007: Quantum of Solace – Casino Royale was awesome, and hopefully this one will be too.
Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince – It’s another Harry Potter movie!
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button – I’m a David Fincher fan, and this is his next movie. It is based on a F. Scott Fitzgerald story about “a man who starts aging backwards with bizarre consequences.”
Defiance – This is a war movie starring Daniel Craig. I saw a trailer for it a while ago, and it looked really good.
Bedtime Stories – This one could go either way, but I think the premise sounds interesting: “A family comedy about a hotel handyman whose life changes when the lavish bedtime stories he tells his niece and nephew start to magically come true.”
I pretty much have the same movie as most here. I’ll add Zack and Miri Make a Porno, but I’m not sure if that’ll be in 2008 or ‘09.
And Fanboys, whenever the hell that’s coming out, and I fear they’re screwing it up.
My Lost 5:
Kate – She’s hot and handy on an island.
Jack – You need a doctor. Although he might get the way of me and Kate :)
Sayid – Tough guy, but nice underneath the hard exterior.
Charlie – Nice guy, and I’d want to borrow his guitar. :)
Hurley – Another nice guy, and he’d be fun just to hang out with and talk to.
I’d pick Claire (beautiful woman indeed) but the kid gets in the way, sorry. I agree that Locke would just eventually cause a lot of problems, and Sayid is just as capable in the jungle etc, add Kate and that equals a Locke imho.
You guys talked about the Buffy Reunion (Paley Fest) as if you’d seen clips of it or pictures from it, any links to that. There is an mp3 of it on the Joss’d podcast.

You said you had fears about Harrison Ford being too old for Indy 4 then you commented on Sex in the City. Well my fear is that the actress in Sex in the city are too old. I really don’t want to think about old ladies and sex…..
I’m totally with Randy on the DRM thing. I’ve never actually downloaded any music on itunes or any other place that offers it. At the moment, it would be an utter waste of time, itunes downloads cost £8 for an album (that’s around $16), and that’s for a fully DRM’d version that I can barely do a thing with, when I can often go out and buy the actual CD for £5 ($10) if it’s been out a little while, and still only around £8-10 if it’s brand new!
There is absolutely NO advantage whatsoever in me downloading my music until the industry gives up on trying to restrict us so much.
Give me back the old days when you’d borrow an album from a friend, and just record it onto a cassette or Minidisc, with no fear that the record company were going to knock on your door and sue you over it!!!…. I’d still go out and buy the CD for myself if I really liked it anyway!
Yeah,I was afraid it was questions@geekshow.com . I’m officially dumb,Randy. ok? lol Ty.
At least I’m not the only one looking forward to the Twilight movie. YES~! lol
My LOST five would probably be
Kate
Sawyer
Jack
Sayid
Hurley(Because we need comic relief!)
Hurley is freaking ’some!
i stoppped watching lost… do we ever find out how he gets his name or do they leave it to imagination??
kinda prefered if they didnt say
I can’t believe that there are people out there who didn’t like Enchanted, I think it’s a wonderful film that can really capture the heart and make you feel like a kid again… but that’s just me…
Has anyone watched Rome (BBC/HBO)? It’s awesome! A Song of Ice and Fire is sounding a bit like it. Is it?
I also loved Enchanted. I think it was able to capture the feel of old-school Disney animation, especially the attitudes and mannerisms of the characters. I was laughing just about every time James Marsden was onscreen. Plus, “That’s How You Know” is a pretty catchy tune (and a funny scene). I was singing it for several days after I saw the movie.
I do wonder what the reasons for not liking Enchanted were. I thought it was one of the best movies I saw last year. for me it was exactly what would happen if snow white got stuck in our world. I assume that its possible for someone to be so unfamiliar with classic Disney movies that they didn’t get the joke.
I really liked Enchanted also. Amy Adams and James Marsden did a great job at acting like animated characters, with their movements. Plus, there are lots of throwbacks to old Disney movies like the poison apples and singing animals.
