Don’t be dissing on the HSM trillogy, the films are as corny as heck but they are good clean fun. I agree, Efron is great and I’d actually like to see him do Spidey, I think he’s quite suited to him, s long as they ugly him up. Oh and that Avatar episode is in the first season, I’ve only seen the first season and I’ve seen that episode.
Yeah I think I’m just too far removed from HSM’s demographic to enjoy anything about it. No interest whatsoever. But I agree that Efron is good, he’s just a little too old to play the Spidey that both Randy and I want. Parker shouldn’t be more than 16 yrs old at most (and should probably be closer to 15), and I just don’t think Efron could believably play that age anymore. That being said however, like mentioned in the episode, if he was cast I would be more or less pleased and eager to see what he had to offer the role.
I’m glad you knew when that episode was. I’m going to have to rewatch the first season before the film comes out, because I don’t think I’m remembering the continuity correctly…
The episode you guys are thinking of is the 13th episode of the first season called “The Blue Spirit”.
Your love of HSM concerns me Jack. :)
I should add that I do like Effron too.
The only concern you should have is why you don’t love it.
I bet if I were a teenager I would love it. It’s not like i don’t like musicals. But wouldn’t it be creepy for a 35yr old to like HSM?
The thing I love about Avatar The Last Airbender cartoon is that it was only anime on the surface. They combined several different styles into something completely their own. I’d say it was about 75% anime, 15% Looney Tunes/Chuck Jones, and 10% early Disney.
Hey Scott, have you heard about the Never Sleep Again documentary coming out on DVD next week? It’s all about the Nightmare on Elm Street series, and it is produced and narrated by Heather Langenkamp. I also think it’s the same people who made the doc on Friday 13th called His Name Was Jason.
Anyway, you can watch the trailer here: http://www.elmstreetlegacy.com/Pages/Video/Index.html
I didn’t, but I wanna see it now!! Thanks for the info!! I love a good retrospective documentary…
Wow.. that looks awesome. Thanks for linking that.
Hey guys, Just got done listening to The Last Airbender talk. I can not wait for this movie. Now that we have got a decent look at Appa, I want to get a look a Momo. Also the blind earth-bender’s name is Toph.
The main thing I am worried about with this movie is that part of what made the series great was the mix of humour and seriousness. So far we have not had any kind of sense that there is going to be any humour in this at all. I think it could still be good but especially with Sokka’s character I feel they need at least a little bit of humour.
I want to see Sokka smack himself in the forehead. Even though the particular episode I’m thinking of with that running gag doesn’t happen until the second season of the cartoon (Cave of Two Lovers), I still hope it makes it into the movie.
Remember the episode in the second season when Aang is still learning earth bending from Toph and Sokka gets trapped in that hole. Then there is that little baby animal that keep by him. He named it Fufucuddlypoop. I want to see that seen in the second movie.
Aahhhhhhh…there’s nothing like the little things. :)
It’s too bad that M Night has already said he couldn’t fit in the cabbage salesman into this movie. It’s completely inconsequential slapstick, but I always loved that gag in the cartoon.
I also worry it will be humorless. I don’t mind a serious movie it it’s good, I guess, but Sokka is so funny in the series, it’d be ashame if he weren’t in the movie.
I also hope this movie does well so there will be Book 2 and 3. Toph is one of my favorite characters in the series and I can’t wait to see how she looks in live action.
Too bad about the cabbage salesman, I loved that bit.
Appa does look great though, and I’m glad they got Dee Bradley Baker to the voices, ugh sounds, for both Appa and Momo.
I meant if he (Sokka) weren’t funny in the movie. :)
Whenever a rumor of some big Disney kid actor appearing in some geeky movie rears its ugly head I always like to remind people that before Escape to New York most people recognized Kurt Russel from The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes. In fact the producers didn’t want him in the movie because they thought too many people saw him just as a cutesy Disney actor.
Just sayin’.
