Green Lantern in 3D is not going to do well even if its a good movie , only comic book reads know about him so it will be hard as it is to do well , making people pay more for 3D glassses and yeah there just asking to do bad . Hope I hope I’m wrong .
You won’t see required 3d movies until most movie theaters have the capacity to have more than one showing at any given time. So that’s not an issue. People don’t HAVE to see it in 3d.
Most cinemas I go to only give the option of seeing a film in 3d… I’d much rather not.
Weird. You live overseas? Around here we generally only have about 1 screen in each theater even capable of handling 3d currently. For example, we probably have 4 screens for Alice in Wonderland at the theater closest to me. 1 of those screens in in 3d, the rest is just the regular movie. There can’t be another 3d movie in that theater until Alice replaced.
The theater closest to me has 16 screens, and I’ve seen as many as half of them showing a 3D movie at the same time.
@Keoki Where are you located? That’s just crazy…
The theater nearest me can only ever have up to 3 3D films at the same time (2 digital 3D, 1 IMAX) and I thought that was a lot.
Yeah, the smaller ones have one screen dedicated to the 3d and the larger ones have many. Hell up to last week Avatar was still number 1 over here and it is still taking up most of the 3D screens round here.
@Scott Im up in Canada, and i actually asked the manager when I was seeing Alice in wonderland tonight, and they have 5 screens that can run 3D plus the Imax
and that 5 was supposed to be an 8 sorry.
Around here, the Carmike chain has a fairly big presence. The entire chain went to digital projection a while ago, and they have some pretty damned nice projectors to boot. Even the cheap Carmike theater I used to go to before I moved across the state had a sharp, vibrant picture. Anyway, the Carmike chains I’ve seen have had several 3D showings available before, especially over the last year when the number of 3D movies released went way up. I’m not sure if every single screen is 3D capable, but if they are, that means the town I used to live in potentially has 22 3D-capable screens. That’s a hell of a lot.
Cinemark and Regal are the two theaters around here. They have 1 screen each (In their 16 screen theaters). 1 digital projector, one silver screen. Then we also have a Movie Tavern (movies + dinner) that has 1 our of 8 screens as digital/3d.
Cinemark is the second largest chain in America, but they still haven’t managed to convert yet.
Now that I’m in Raleigh, there are a few more chains around, including an IMAX downtown. However, I have yet to go to a movie here, partly due to the craziness of moving and partly because there haven’t been any movies out this year that I really want to see yet.
Well here in Wyoming we only have one 3d screen in the whole state and its in Cheyenne. Which is a 5 hour drive from Riverton(where i live) which has 1 theater with 5 screens total. :)
People had no idea what the hell Avatar was, didn’t stop it from becoming the top grossing film of all time. It may not have any blue cat people, but I think Green Lantern will do just fine…
I think there is a problem,
I can only hear Randy.
Just listened to the first few minutes. I hear Scott just fine. Can you be more specific where the problem is? You don’t hear scott at all? Speakers? Headphones?
It’s ok now.
I was listening with my old headfones.
With my speakers it’s fine.Great show!
ps: I must say, great experience listening only to Randy and trying to guess what Scott said, verry funny.
I can hear Scott just fine here. Maybe the Belgian geek’s left channel isn’t playing through since Scott is entirely in my left speaker.
That’s weird. It’s supposed to be mono. I’ll have to check that out next time.
Yeah, same on my end. Randy, you’re in both speakers but Scott’s only on the left. Same happened with last Doctor’s Companion episode I’m in the midst of listening to.
Portal 2 being a full-length game with 2-player co-op included is just about the most awesome news that Valve could have announced. The only thing better would be to announce Episode 3 of HL2. Episode 2 was an awesome roller coaster ride that ends on a brutal, emotionally taxing cliffhanger. Half-Life is one of my favorite game series (I’ve loved it since the original game and its many expansions), so I really, really need to see how the story continues. Valve has been keeping us waiting for far too long to the point that we don’t even know if Episode 3 even exists.
I had no idea that Zachary Levi directed the latest episode of Chuck. He did a great job! The episode was so excellent that I watched it twice. It just had the perfect balance of comedy, drama, big reveals, and action. I was especially amused by the “revolution” at the Buy More with all the Nerf guns. Also, Morgan was insanely hilarious and heartfelt during this episode. I just about died laughing when he whipped out the dual electric bread knives during his “hero” moment.
I loved Portal, so I can’t wait for some co-op action.
I thought the latest episode of Chuck was probably the best of the season to me. Just before this episode aired, I had come to the conclusion that part of my problem this season is that they’ve broken up the formula that I liked. It reminds me of season 3 of Veronica Mars. Yes, it was called Veronica Mars. And yes, this is called Chuck. But it doesn’t have to focus squarely on the main character.
So far this season, they’ve managed to separate Chuck from his love interest, his best friend, his sister, and a majority of the real-life situations. Even with Captain Awesome, that whole storyline has been pretty disappointing. I assume they have something bigger planned for him, but so far it’s been a lot of uncomfortable anxiety, complaining, and the use of red herrings from that story.
I like Hannah and Shaw, but in the process they’ve taken away a lot of what I like about the show. Just about every other minor character in the show has seen their time trimmed. I rather liked Jeff, Lester, Anna, Ellie, and even General Beckman. I certainly liked the “orders from command” portion of the team’s mechanic. I’m not a big fan of the “Follow this guy, because he’s a badass” storyline.
I’m really hoping that there is more to the whole Shaw storyline than we’ve seen so far. It really seemed like to me that Beckman was being blackmailed or something early in the season, and then that sort of went away. Much like the whole, “Chuck is keeping secrets from the government on his Tron poster” storyline.
Anyway, this was a good step in the right direction. Morgan can be included in more stories now. Jeff and Lester got a nice role. Even Ellie and Awesome are at least doing something. I’m just hoping that something doesn’t amount to even less screen time.
Great episode. Good direction too on Zach’s part. I’m hoping for some more good episodes down the road. It’s looking good for a renewal next season, especially with all the new programming NBC has to bring in to replace Leno.
Repo Men certainly seems to be a serious take on the concept from Repo! The Genetic Opera. R!TGO was kind of fun, but I enjoyed it partly because of my affinity for flawed movies and partly because Anthony Stewart Head was in it. It’s not a movie for everybody, but R!TGO did have a nice flair to it that’s worth checking out if the trailer interests you at all.
I’m not really interested in Repo Men, but only because I know very little about it. I do like the actors in it though, so maybe I’ll check it out.
R!TGO was great for Anthony Stewart Head and Sarah Brightman. Everyone else was badly miscast if memory serves. It was a great concept and world they built and the music was great but the rest of the cast was so flawed it was hard to watch. I’m intrigued by Repo Man though.
Okay….1.) R!TGO was a great, fun movie, but was so unusual and off-mainstream, that is barely made any ticket sales. As a result, some executives somewhere made the decision…”Let’s remake this movie, but….without singing, without the unique style or kinkyness, add a big time celeb, and lots of kung-fu action.” Repo is the same story, same concept, same movie.
2.) This movie then took the old formula that we’ve seen 300 times:
A guy is a super badass at some exotic, shady job. He loves and never questions the job. Until his moral heart strings begin to tug. Then one day his bosses betray/try to kill him. His partner turns against him. He realizes his job is wrong and decides to destroy the entire system with his insider knowledge in several bloody battles.
Examples: Equilibrium, Jason Bourne movies, Road to Perdition, Bangkok Dangerous, Ghost Dog, etc.
Didn’t the Bourne movies involve less heart strings and more loss of memory/being hunted? Loved the movies, but can’t remember for the life of me what exactly happened. Perhaps it involved heart strings and betrayal leading up to the amnesia. I don’t remember. Maybe I have amnesia.
Well, technically, Jason Bourne had both. He had a target he was supposed to kill, but of course the target had two small children. (heart string tug cue) He didn’t kill the guy and got lost at sea, then getting the memory loss. We then move to Step #3, where he tries to uncover his past which leads his bosses to try to betray/kill him.
I gotta say I was completely satisfied with the oscars this year (apart from In The Loop loosing its one award). I didn’t enjoy Avatar enough to see it win anything. I liked The Hurt Locker a lot, it kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole thing, though I still think A Serious Man was the best picture of last year.
I still hold firmly that Moon and Bright Star were majorly snubbed at the Oscars this year and I was really sad that the girl from Precious didn’t win (mostly because I like her in interviews and she has a really great Cinderella story and would’ve loved to see her acceptance speech) but I think I just view the Oscars differently than most.
I love the show for the pagentry, for the self-congratulatory nature of it, for the emotion and drama and glitz and glamor. I like seeing who’s wearing what, what weird junk goes down, who says something they shouldn’t and who says something poignant. It’s the not the Olympics in my opinion, these people who win aren’t always “the best” so to speak but it’s still neat to watch regardless. I was also sad to see Young Victoria get the Best Costume award but LOVED in her acceptance speech the designer admitted that and made a point to say that costumers of contemporary movies and other kinds of films often get neglected for their costuming efforts. I thought the weird way they did Best Actor and Actress was painfully narcissistic and unnecessary. Also, I was sad that Hurt Locker won best editing but when I saw the nerds get up there and thank Sam Raimi (and looked them up to see they cut Army of Darkness) I instantly forgave them.
It’s also how I keep up with who’s dead and who’s alive. (I found out Lauren Bacall and Andy Rooney were both still alive and Dom DeLuise passed away.) That’s actually what I mostly take away from the Oscars.
Also, Meryl Streep took my 10th grade Global Studies teacher (her brother) to the show and I thought that was really cool to see him on TV.
Mickey Rooney. Sheesh, I meant Mickey Rooney.
