Fandomonium! – Episode Two
Thursday, September 17th, 2009
We’re back and we’re talking video games. Everything is discussed from what we’ve been playing lately to what were some of our favorite games of all time in the second episode of Fandomonium!
(There is a mysterious phantom static issue throughout this episode . Everyone can still be heard most of the time, making it more of an annoyance than anything else, but its there. We have no idea what caused this, but we’ll try to fix the issue in later episodes. Bear with us please!)

Can’t apologize enough for the constant static disruptions in this episode. We have no idea what it is… but I didn’t want to totally scrap what I thought was a quality episode on a topic that Ben and I aren’t known to discuss very often.
So please enjoy the best you can
I was really digging it, but that feedback noise was eventually just too much for me, especially since I was wearing headphones. I had to turn it off while you and Kevin were talking about Red Dead Redemption. I couldn’t even hear Kevin. I don’t think his mic was plugged in or something. Unless, it was a wireless mic, which may explain the interference noise. It’s too bad you don’t still have the equipment you gave to Nick & Will. I don’t know what kind of setup you’re using for this show, but I would strongly recommend the free program called The Levelator. All you have to do is save your finished file as an AIFF or WAV in Adobe Audition, then insert that file into The Levelator. After it’s done, open the file back up in Audition (the new file should have the word “output” in it now), then convert/save it as an mp3 again. I know it sounds like a lot of tedious work, but it’s often very helpful in fixing problems where you can’t always hear the other hosts talking.
is this going to be put on itunes at any point?
My iTunes is downloading it as I type this sentence.
I can’t wait to listen to this episode! I assume this was recorded at the same time (or soon after) as the previous one, so I won’t be looking for any Batman Arkham Asylum discussion.
I am currently in the “what we’ve been playing recently” segment, so I thought I would share what I’ve been playing this summer.
Most recently, I’ve been playing through Batman Arkham Asylum. The game is awesome, and I am awesome at stealth and really crappy at getting long combos. Shadow Complex is a great downloadable title if you’re looking for a “Metroidvania” side scroller.
However, the game that I have ended up playing for the entire summer is Red Faction: Guerrilla. The single-player game is a lot of fun, but the multiplayer is what has been bringing me back time and time again. Words can’t properly express how awesome blowing everything up can be, so I’ll just let this video from GameTrailers do the talking: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/exclusive-explosive-red-faction/49216
I’ll even try to embed it below….not sure if that will work in the comments section.
I’m surprised to hear you talk about PS3 exclusives as if they are nonexistent. Personally I feel the PS3 has more high quality exclusives than the 360. Here’s a list of some of the great PS3 exclusives:
MGS4: Guns of the Patriots, God of War III, Little Big Planet, Infamous, Heavenly Sword, Killzone 2, Uncharted, Uncharted 2, and the Ratchet & Clank Future series
The only really high quality 360 exclusives I can think of are:
Gears of War series, Fable II, Mass Effect, Dead Rising (which is now also on the Wii), and Downloadable Content for GTA IV
They both have great exclusives, but personally the amount that the PS3 has as well as PS3 being a BluRay exclusive, having a much much lower failure rate than the 360, and being the same price as the 360 Elite I think makes the PS3 a better purchase for anyone looking to purchase a next gen console besides the Wii.
Both systems have several notable exclusive games, both currently available and future releases. Here’s the list of exclusives for each system that catch my eye. I have played some of these, while other look like games I’d really like to check out at some point.
PS3:
LittleBigPlanet, Ratchet & Clank Future, Uncharted 1&2, God of War 3, Heavy Rain, Fat Princess, PixelJunk series, Infamous, Killzone 2, Resistance 1&2, ModNation Racers, Metal Gear Solid 4, Motorstorm series, Wipeout HD
360:
Alan Wake, Halo 3, Halo 3 ODST, Halo Wars, Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, Crackdown, Fable 2, Mass Effect series, Lost Odyssey, Splosion Man, Shadow Complex, Trials HD, Viva Pinata series, Dead Rising, Gears of War 1&2
In my opinion, both systems have a large number of high quality exclusives, and you can’t go wrong with either one of them. Personally, I like the 360 controller better than the PS3’s because it fits my hands better, and XBox Live is much better than PSN. That said, I’ve been enjoying the hell out of my recent PS3 purchase, and I’m glad that I’m lucky enough to have both systems.
The reason I give the ps3 the nod is because of the 360 exclusives:
Alan Wake, Mass effect, gears of war and im sure the halo games will be
Will or are all on the PC aswell, so they aren’t quite as “exclusive”.
Add Fable to the list too, sorry
