I just have one thing to say: Making up obscure categories is cool.
So long as you wear a fez and a bow tie when you do it :-P
What a great year of Doctor Who. Not sure what to mark as the highlight, as there were so many.
Greatest moment – probably the arrival of River on the TARDIS in Time of Angels. What a great entrance!
Creepiest moment – the Cyberman attacking Amy in The Pandorica Opens. Lovely to see the Cybermen scary again.
Favourite episode – The Eleventh Hour – Matt Smith was THE Doctor within five minutes.
BTW, I seem to have lost my avatar. I can’t see how to reload it in my profile. Can anyone help?
The avatars used here aren’t actually saved on this website. They actually get pulled from a site called http://www.gravatar.com
What happens is that you have an account there where you can upload your avatars. Then this site (and any others that support gravatar) will pull up your avatar by comparing your email address to the one tied to your gravatar account. So as long as you use the same email address at both places, your avatar should show up.
I am pretty sure that this is how it works. Someone else can correct me if I got anything wrong.
Nope, that is exactly right. Make sure you are using the right email address to post with, and the system does everything else. If you continue to see problems, you will want to check http://www.gravatar.com to make sure everything is kosher there.
Thanks guys!
In retrospect, I think that the episode that feels the most like a fairy tale is probably The Beast Below. I think this is partially due to the use of a poem to open and close the episode and partially due to the tone, plot structure, and dialogue of the episode.
I thought the whole episode was very fairy tale like, long before I knew that was the goal of the episode/season. The idea of a a city that eats people really tops it off.
Okay guys, finally caught up all of Season Five via itunes as well as all your commentaries. Enjoyed this episode of the Doctor’s Companion although a little disappointed that my email from a while ago didn’t make the cut, though I do understand cuz it didn’t really require a reply as such.
O my gosh. I really think Season Five has spoiled the previous four seasons of the reboot for me because it was just awesome on so many levels. Not having seen Doctor Who before this season, my plan now is to go back and watch the first four seasons on DVD to kill the time between now and Christmas.
I loved Matt Smith and Karen Gillan. Both have a great sense of comic timing, as does the guy playing Rory, although it is less developed so far (cf. his reactions in The Eleventh Hour when realising the Doctor and Amy are talking about Jeff being the “attractive one” as well as just everything going on around him).
Favourite Moffat episode was def The Eleventh Hour. Thats the one that “wooed” me and got me into the show to begin with, as well as it just being a really fun episode all round.
Favourite non-Moffat episode was tie between The Vampires of Venice and The Lodger. I too would like to see a follow-up to the characters from the Lodger. The Doctor has the key to the apartment so would be cool to throw back to that some way.
My favourite section of The Big Bang really had to be the whole final act from Amy waking up after the Doctor rewinds, to the two of them and Rory (Mr Pond!! loved the callback to the “my boys” line) in the Tardis going off to deal with the Orient Express trouble. I really liked that now Rory is on surer footing with the Doctor and as a character and just physically how the three of them spread out equally amond the tardis consoles to leave on their next adventure. Also Amy yelling at the Doctor for being late for her wedding was a good line and the “something old, new, borrowed and blue” line was the height of cheesiness but just so perfect it made me smile.
Enjoy the next month off. You guys have clearly worked so hard getting the podcast out every week and I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to your commentary, ideas, opinions and predications.
For the off season I would be interested to hear you guys talk about the previous seasons of the reboot as that is what I am going to be watching next. Also maybe you could do some villain profiles or companion profiles or something, discussing origins of the characters and your opinions etc.
Also wanted to say I’ve just joined twitter and are now following both of you so please dont delete me :-)
Just added you to my Twitter list. You’ve got a follower now!
I liked The Lodger and Vampires of Venice better than The Beast Below, but those are the only non-Moffet episodes I liked better than his.
My favorite is probably Eleventh Hour of Vincent. Big Bang was excellent too, and count me as an Alex Kingston fan, but I liked her a lot on ER :) I hope they don’t replace her unless it’s part of the timeline.
And not only have I thoroughly enjoyed this season but I’ve really enjoyed the two of you on the podcast :)
Dammit, I forgot, forgive the double post.
I tried being a good boy and watching on BBCA, but they were already 2 weeks behind, then took a week off. I was still a good boy, but then they took another week off (they’re just airing Pandorica this Sat.).
So screw that. I’m also using the same “method” to watch Top Gear Series 15. :)
