I had no idea who the Silurians were before this episode. I had no idea that this episode was going to reintroduce them before I saw it (and technically not until now).
For me, that didn’t really make the episode any more interesting than for you guys. It still felt like a partial episode, or at least a partially baked episode. It was just kind of okay, and I think that Amy getting sucked into the ground should have been more impactful. The actual scene was fine, but afterwards it didn’t seem to change how the characters acted. Rory should have been more pissed off with the Doctor, IMHO.
Also, the guest characters in this episode are all fairly “blah” and not very interesting. The kid is the most interesting, but even he could have been a lot better.
All of that said, the makeup for the captured Silurian was amazing. The segment on the makeup from Doctor Who Confidential was pretty cool. The actress looked much different than what I expected.
I also wanted to mention that the deleted scene we got to see during Confidential should have been left in the episode and cut something else. It was more interesting than most of what they kept in.
When I watched the previews for this episode and saw Amy getting sucked into the ground, I thought for sure that would be one of the later scenes of the episode. But instead, we got it almost straight away. That was quite bizarre, I think.
As I said, kids have a natural ability to drawn in the interest of viewers, IMO. So as interesting as the kid was, I still chalk that up to him being a kid, and no actual work from the story’s side of things.
The secret is the headphones.
Polygon_Wizard is right , what’s with thos headphones they were so weird looking .
