I liked this alot more than I thought I would, I LOVED the doctors entrance to the stag night.
Agreed. The Doctor’s entrance was hilarious, but then he keeps it going with his slightly awkward speech/confession as well. I also liked the shirts they were all wearing.
The more I think about it, the more I like this episode, mostly for the small things like the line about Venetians being able to swim.
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one! I was thinking about Assassin’s Creed II during this episode as well! It especially came to mind when the Doctor was hanging onto the side of the building, despite being much less graceful than Ezio.
Favorite line of the episode (out of many great lines): “Blimey! Fish from space have never been soooo…….buxom.”
At this rate, I’ll have the recent comments section filled up all by myself. ;)
Loved Hartnell on the library card. Shame on you, Randy, for not catching that :)
I had to look it up online to be sure, but the fish-people’s planet seems to be named Saturnyne, a pun on “saturnine” meaning moody or gloomy. That is awfully close to the real planet Saturn, though. I wish they’d picked another name.
I figured it was a doctor, I just had no idea which one. It didn’t even occur to me that the library card would be from Gallifrey, actually. :)
I actually loved seeing the library card too, apparently (according to wikipedia) the card is from Shoreditch (an area of london)
Great show guys, I really enjoyed your commentary and I also enjoyed that you guys gave your opinions of the episode at the beginning of the podcast. I think Scotts’ theory regarding that the Pandorica might be a Zoo is interesting. Also, for everyone that want another insight from the actors regarding this series theme, there is a video in which Karen Gillan interviews Matt Smith and Matt Smith compares this series to one of my favorite movies ever. I think watched the trailer of such a movie and
i had a interesting realization, suffice to say spoilers :P
The zoo thing was in an episode of Superman: The Animated Series from the 90’s if memory serves. The one that introduced Lobo I believe and both he and Superman end up in the intergalactic zoo for being the last of their kind.
But yes, it was actually a great episode! Just the fact that the Doctor chatted with the stripper, got her a sweater and treated her like a real person and ignored the fact that she was a stripper was hysterical to me.
I really liked this episode especially the speech by Rory about how people want to impress the Doctor.
Question though, was the Tardis translating for them? Or are we meant to believe everyone in this episode spoke English?
The Tardis is translating it to English for them. There are several episodes where this is discussed.
A very funny example is in Series 4. Donna and Doctor 10 are in Pompeii. The translating ability of the Tardis is explained to Donna. She ponders it then asks the Doctor, “So, if I say Vinni Viddi Vicci, what language does the Tardis translate it to?” hahaha
You are dead on Scott with the Season Theme of “Endangered Species”. I’m 2 weeks behind so I don’t know if this episode aired yet or not, but isn’t there supposed to be an episode soon with a Cyberman? As I recall, it appears as though the episode would only have 1 decrepit Cyberman. (Somewhat reminiscent of the episode “Dalek” with Rose from Series 1) There also we have the theme of a creature that is the last of its kind.
BBC America is so frustrating, not airing an episode this Saturday, so we’ll be 3 episodes behind.
I’ve been a good boy so far, but I might have to book a ticket on BT airways.
What are you waiting for? :P
could have been better but I dont think is as bad as people say it is .
Maybe it was just me but I thought the Doctor was asking the guys at the stag party to let the stripper inside cuz she was only in a bikini and needed a jumper. Plus I loved how he seemed to think it bold or brave of her to jump out of a cake when she is diabetic. Best beginning so far.
