Y The Last Man Vol. 5In this final Deluxe Edition hardcover collecting Y #49-60, Yorick and Agent 355 prepare for their ultimate quest to reunite the last man with his lost love, while the person, people or thing behind the disaster that wiped out half of humanity is revealed. Then, Yorick Brown's long journey through an Earth populated only by women comes to its dramatic, unexpected conclusion.
I had to laugh at the beefed up Daleks when they were revealed. “Look! They come in a variety of pretty colors!” It didn’t really bug me or anything. I just found it amusing.
Other than that, the episode was pretty much awesome. Spitfires in space? Brilliant. Pretending that a tea biscuit is a deadly weapon (well…the big red button anyway)? Brilliant. The Doctor putting out Churchill’s cigars? Brilliant. Tea-serving Daleks? Brilliant. I even enjoyed Ian Mcneice as Churchill. Accuracy aside, I thought his performance was lighthearted and fun, fitting perfectly with the tone of the episode.
I think it was good to have an episode on the lighter side, especially when what’s coming next week appears to be rather dark and creepy.
My Theory…
The Doctor is being sucked towards the cracks. That’s why he never arrives on time. I think that the Tardis is taking them to the cracks.
However, I find it incredibly interesting that Amy has really fixed both the problems already. The Doctor has always had a way that he goes about solving the problems ie. Vegetating the star whale, Making Bracewell get angry.
Meanwhile, Amy has fixed the problems in a differently both ways, ie. The Whale helping the children, Making Bracewell feel love.
I wonder if Amy is actually human. You guys said something about the Tardis desisgn competition. Maybe Amy is a Time Lord (THE RANI!!!!)
She just seems to clever for a regular human.
HMMMM…
Mark Gatiss (pronounced Gate-is) has written 3 episodes now starting with The Unquiet Dead, followed by The Idiot’s Lantern and finally Victory of the Daleks. He’s actually the reason I started to watch Doctor Who, he was part of a comedy trio called The LEague of Gentlemen which to me is some of the finest comedy ever committed to screen, when I heard he was working on Doctor Who I became very interested.
I liked this episode, though I thought all the new Daleks looked pregnant.
Thanks for the pronunciation key. I was definitely struggling. Looking at his track record, I can’t say I much liked any of his episodes before this one. The Unquiet Dead was okay (Charles Dickens was good) and I’m not crazy about The Idiot’s Lantern at all (probably my least favorite behind “Fear Her”). However, I definitely see a lot of similarities in tone between the three. Very interesting.
No plans yet, but I really hope Paul Cornell writes an episode for series 6. In the meantime, I’m really looking forward to his new BBC 3 pilot Pulse as well as his run on Action Comics.
Yeah, I’ve got to say none of his episodes have really been great, but I still give him props for getting me into Doctor Who.
Did anyone else think “Wow.. the Daleks are taking their cues from Apple” when they saw the multicolored Daleks?
That’s exactly what I thought!
New from Apple this summer, the iDalek! Comes in either the attractive “Personal Tea Server” edition or the intimidating “World Domination” edition!
Well no one open their wallets just yet. I heard a rumor that they’ll be announcing a new iDalek 4G soon…. I guess an employee left one in a bar cleverly disguised as a Cyberman :P
It should have been disguised as a Slitheen. Then nobody would have wanted anything to do with it.
I pictured the Dell lollipop comercial.
Now that you mention it, that’s probably a better fit.
Heard the greatest thing on Slice of Scifi today.. Might Morphin Dalek Rangers… hehe.. Voicemail show #261..
