Being two weeks behind sucks…………….(pout)
Become a pirate, its more fun…not so much on the swashbuckling though………….. (pouts aswell)
As you mentioned in the episode, the temporary evacuation of future Earth due to solar flare activity has been mentioned before, in the classic series.
In the serial “The Ark in Space,” the Fourth Doctor, Sarah Jane, and Harry Sullivan encounter one of the evacuation vessels that is being menaced by the creepy insectoid Wirrn. In “The Sontaran Experiment” (right before or after “Ark in Space,” I forget which) the same threesome deal with Sontarans who have borrowed the mostly deserted Earth as a site for unethical experimentation on other beings.
The First Doctor and companions also encountered a space ark (twice, a century or so apart, in a nice early example of a “timey-wimey” plot), but I believe that one was involved in a different evacuation of Earth.
I just watched Ark in Space and I remember them talking about that now. I guess we’re all doomed to Armageddon by solar flares…
Also, Ark in Space is definitely before The Sontaran Experiment. Ark in Space is Tom Baker’s first adventure after Robot.
I need to rewatch this episode to really take in all the great moments, but I loved it just about as much as the opener last week. I loved the fairy tale tone of this episode and the creepy smiling booth guys. I loved Liz 10 and the little girl character. I loved Matt Smith’s general quirkiness, especially with the glass of water and the “big on dignity” line. I loved the scene with Amy Pond and the little girl (when Amy is breaking into the tent). She has a sassy “I can handle myself” attitude that I’m really enjoying.
I can’t wait until next week.
Matt Smith finally has my fiance truly anticipating the new episodes of Who. I got her through the 1st-3rd of the new series, but she lost interest after that.. Now she finally has a Doctor to love from the beginning and its been a fantastic time enjoying the new series. Of course I have her to thank for introducing me to ya’ll oh so long ago with the Buff Cast and Two Geeks. Anyways.. loved the episode and absolutely can’t wait to see next week.
So the space whale is the last of it’s kind and is powering the UK vessel, but what is powering the other nations’ vessels?
I really did love this episode. This season is starting out really great.
