I just watched these for the second time last week, and I enjoyed them a bit more this time. However, I think they are still my least favorite Moffat episodes. Girl in the Fireplace and Blink have some intangible “something” that makes them special. While Silence in the Library and Forest of the Dead are very good episodes, they don’t quite make it into “great” territory for me. There are lots of segments of these episodes that I really like (like “spoilers”), but a few things fall a little bit short such as boring characters in River Song’s group. The episode did a poor job of making me care about those characters, so when they were in danger or killed, I didn’t really care all that much. Contrast that with Blink where all the characters are impactful to the story and you feel for them, even with short screen times.
This was my least favorite of Moffats episodes aswell. I loved all the foreshadowing and I liked doinna ALOT more than usual in this episode, but the thing I hated was River Song. I dont know if maby I just had a reaction to the actress, or what it was, but she rubbed me the wrong way.
I want to like her becuase it looks like she will play a massive part in things to come, and hopefully I’ll grow to love her as the doctor does, but at the moment she just irratates me, and the worst part is that I dont really know why.
I actually like River Song. She is the only really interesting character in these episodes apart from the Doctor and Donna. The little girl is kind of interesting but mostly because of the idea behind the character rather than the character herself.
Yeah, Like I said I want to like her, I think it was just a reaction I had to the person playing her….but again, I dont know why.
This was my favorite two parter. I found it thrilling when the Doctor when to center of the library just to save River. I still believe no one really died on this episode. The library was programed to save anyone from the Nashta Nerada, and it did. It used the Data Ghost to save the consciousness of everyone that died. Regarding Ms. Evangelista, I find it funny that her Data Ghost was so clumsy that it was not even able to copy herself correctly and that is why she lost her beauty but because smart.
Great episode you guys!
I can’t wait for you two to talk about Coupling and Jekyll. I have watch Coupling a couple of times already (I am talking about the whole series). And I would like to know what you think about it.
I personally believe that this series was fantastic and that it could no have gotten a better ending. Also, I loved all the Dr. Who references in the series itself :D
The problem with the nobody dies theory is that the computer was programmed to save the people by teleporting them out. When it did that (Such as with Donna and the entire population prior to the episode’s timeframe), it worked well. The people were saved, and they were able to be brought back. When it had to resort to “saving” data ghosts, the data was corrupted, as with Ms Evangelista. She said as much. Missed a decimal point or two. Downloading someone’s personality isn’t really the same thing as teleporting them and keeping them alive, in my opinion. Then to further complicate things, she is then replaced from her flawed version to her whole version when River enters the program. Which is why we are led to believe that she’s from River’s memory in addition to the data it had.
IMO, it’s barely even the real version. To say she’s still alive is really stretching it. But otherwise, I agree with everything you said. :)
I just wanted to say keep up the good work Randy and Scott and I cant wait to hear u guys on a week by week talking about the Matt Smith eps
